Cameron has Guts!

Not a Tory - but just watching his speech - I am impressed that he is pushing the coalition with the LD's as this would not be an easy option. Normally think he is smarmy but I am not quite so scared now that he will be our PM!

longfingernails, that's exactly as I see it. Quite why people are now surprised that NC is making moves to working with DC is a mystery to me. But their parties are quite different and that will make a working relationship full of problems (and lots of compromise). That's why I dreaded this outcome.

Actually I take that back. Maybe he is. maybe he is the new Messiah . Whatever he is, we're stuck with him so we'll just have to reserve judgement and hope he doesn't screw up.

Did Gordon Brown or Nick Clegg take questions?

Taking questions would be irresponsible before they have all talked in private to each other.

Coalitions can't be thrashed out in public for obvious reasons.

This is what we get with a hung Parliament; no point complaining now.

Cameron has definitely made the best of a bad job.

On our side? He's not on my side. The only reason he didn't want to take questions was in case he was asked whether he would accept a deal on PR. Or any other tricky questions for that matter.

preggerspollsred, he's got no time for questions. He's got to roll his sleeves up and get stuck in. The mess that Labour has left behind is enormous. He's got no time to waste, he's selfless, doing it for us, he's on our side.

I thought the speech was rubbish, he spent too much time spelling out really...slowly...for...us...thickies how many votes he had won and what that meant (errr, its ok Dave, I have BBC on my interweb) and the rest of the time telling us how shit he thinks Labour are. If he really wanted to appear Prime Ministerial he should be focused on the future rather than just harping on about what a mess he thinks he has inherited.

And that last bit....no questions please, I'm far too busy, things to do, people to see!! Oh please.

longfingernails, a few scares like Wall Street had yesterday will keep "the headbangers on the authoritarian right of the Tory party, or the ex-Labour SDP rump of the Lib Dems" in line. They'll do as they're told when the markets start plummeting.

Nick Clegg had the guts to make his speech in front of crowds of press/ supporters. And he didn't need notes.

I think Cameron is a decent man but will always be fighting the old guard in his party.

Cameron and Clegg are basically the same. Cameron is a liberal Tory; Clegg is an Orange Booker (on the right of the Lib Dems). I have no doubt that they, personally, can agree.

The problem is if they can take their parties with them. The headbangers on the authoritarian right of the Tory party, or the ex-Labour SDP rump of the Lib Dems, won't like it one bit.

He was very clear about it.... no woolly policies on immigration, no scrapping trident and no definite PR Mr Clegg if you want to be involved at the top table. Otherwise he'll push for minority government. The 'cross party inquiry' on electoral reform is a never-never and the LDs know it.

Clegg's party is split whichever way he goes. Decisions... decisions....

Cameron is far more genuine than Blair - not that that would be difficult! I was always amazed by how many people voted for him! Although looking at the % vote he had last time - actually about the same as Cons have got now.

I liked it very much and found I agreed with most of it (deficit as priority, economy etc). Hope LD co operate.
