Agree that HH is good but the papers have damaged her (Daily Mail) wider appeal but she is very sound IMO and has done more for equality than anyone else recently

Nymphadora- Compeltely agree that jack Straw would be perfect for Lib-Lab coalition. If no coalition then need to go for a young charmer. I also like Yvette Cooper but she might not be ready and her hubby is a liability.

... and yes, Gordon Brown could go to the Queen to resign as soon as arrangements were made for a govt. Until then, he remains PM - and I don't even think he needs to be head of the labour party to remain as such.

As long as the LDs know he's not there, and the new Labour leader is part of negotiations, I don't think there's a massive logistical issue.

Tebbit supporting minority govt. Of course: the Tories know this will lead to a Queen's Speech that labour and libs will HAVE to support: they've got no money to fight a quick election so they'll bank on them NOT voting it down...?

BBC are saying "The Conservative and Lib Dem negotiation teams will meet again at 1100 BST on Sunday and there will be a meeting of Conservative MPs at 1800 BST on Monday, the BBC understands."

So we have a good couple days of speculation ahead. I don't think my nerves are up to it. I'm coming round to the Cons minority gov option being the best bet in the medium to long term.

I like Johnson - he would lead well, but agree that a Miliband would probably have more popular appeal. I still maintain that Gordon would be bloody impressive as leader in opposition.
