Depressed lefty red-eye thread

I'm not a lefty although strongly support certain social policies such as civil partnerships so not a natural Tory either. We got to keep our excellent local MP here (Lib Dem) and all Lab seats but 2 lost to Tories and one to Lib Dems. Think the regional results point even more to the need for electoral reform. I live in a very rural and coastal county which feels Labour is the party of middle-class urban life and has no understanding of country affairs, especially for the poor/elderly etc. I had much more sympathy with Labour when I lived in London (and voted for them there). Living where I do now it feels as if Labour is the most definitely out of touch and the results suggest I am in the majority. It feels as though there is no party that represents rural low income families.

First indications are that he is going to try to hang on. It will be up to Nick to say no. And he probably will.

Was not happy with him on the economy. Brown was much stronger on the final debate

Leningrad they won't just introduce electoral reform. i think its clear that it would be put to a referendum - and quite right too. Its the only way to isolate opinion on this.

It is completely unthinkable that NC would be PM - that would be even more perverse, we have never had a prime minister from the third party. We have a parliamentary system and a PM with 51 MPS at his disposal is untenable, sorry.

Gordon is stubborn but I don't think he's going to try to rip up the constitution. He's not actually mad.

Sarah Teather just got Brent Central for LDs, she looks well chuffed, but it was hilarious seeing her standing next to very tall man (she is a small lady)
