Reasons *not* to vote conservative today

"until the pips squeak"? Can't remember who said that but I seem to remember learning about it in our school History lessons - hardly a current Labour politician.

I won't vote Tory because
a. they believe that lower taxes for those who are successful and prosperous is more important than spending to protect the welfare of those who start off disadvantaged in life.
b. their candidates ranked climate change 19th out of a list of 19 important issues. Try explaining that to our children in 30 years time when it's too late to un-screw up our planet.

MrsVidic, spot on, changing the voting system is vital, but I just don't believe it will happen unfortunately

they wont reform the election process- I hate the system we have atm which ,eans sme votes are worth more than others- I was going to vote tory but I can not for this reason (my vote means sod all in this tory consituancy

if you want the country to sink into poverty, becuase that's the way they like it, it makes you dependent and gives them the control they crave, vote Labour

if you want to have obstacles in your path to stop you succeeding, vote Labour

if you want to be taxed to the eyeballs, or as they so cheerily say "until the pips squeak", vote Labour

if you want to see your hard-earned money blown on hairbrain schemes, vote Labour

if you want to carry on paying the £200,000 salaries and the pensions of an army of jobsworths, vote Labour

if you want to live in a country full of petty rules and regulations, vote Labour

if you want your politicians to ignore your concerns, and to call you a bigot, vote Labour

if you like being fined for putting your bin out on the wrong day, vote Labour

On the other hand, if you're not keen on the above, would prefer a brighter future, believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel, then there's only one choice, vote conservative.

it is bailing out the banks that is breaking our balls. not looking after our children.

oh, and paying the bill for a little war in Iraq

we already know that Blair could only wage his war with Tory support.

Getting into debt isn't just like running up a heavy credit card bill for one month. Eventually you (the nation) end up paying more and more interest on debts as other countries decide that you can't have a high credit rating (AAA) because you owe too much. So, each year there's less to pay for services and more to pay to the international financial community. Is that really what you want? You're taking now and leaving your children to pay back. And possibly your grandchildren.

None of the parties have been honest about the severity of our problem but the TOries have come nearest to doing so. So I'm voting for them.

It was the Tories who introduced Family Credit in the mid 80s,so started the ball rolling, and also who introduced independent taxation of married women, so we were no longer chattels of our husbands.

I will be voting Tory.

I know I'll be accused of looking back too much here, but I will never vote Tory after Thatcher's legacy. I can remember people going from house to house when I was a child, looking for food donations to send to the miners... She would have let them starve. So as long as they go on without offering an apology, I won't even consider them.

Worth getting into debt for??

How exactly are we going to pay off that debt - not to mention the massive bill for interest. Already we pay more in interest than we do for schools.

People forget that in order to have Olympic medals in 2024, children today have to be running in parks now.

That to stay out of goal in 2030 they have to feel secure, at home and at school, now.

These things are worth getting into debt for.

The Conservatives won't pay for that. They expect volunteers to do it.

More equal societies almost always do better.
