What do you remember about what you were doing at previous election times?

I remember being glad Thatcher got in cos she was a woman.
I remember that election Kinnock lost that we expected him to win - soooo depressing.
And 1997 I fell down the stairs after coming back from voting and knocked myself out and spent the day at A&E . But oh the euphoria
Then when Blair was re-elected the first time I cut my finger with the breadknife the next morning and it bled all over the photo of him and Cherie in the Guardian. Symbolic, in retrospect.
Can't remember the last one, must have been pregnant.

John Major, his wife was Norma, and his chancellor was Norman Lamont. Private Eye used to have him referring to his wife Norman.

v interested in the spaghetti bolognaise. That is exactly the kind of detail I wanted. was it nice?

I thankfully was not alive when Thatcher got into power.

I vaguely remember her resigning to Norman Major (was it?) - must have been 1992 and I was 10 years old. I remember being allowed to eat my dinner in front of the tv . It was spaghetti bolognese if you are interested.

1997 - not sure, was too young to really get it at 15.

2001 - seemed a non event but I did vote. 2005 again, pre DC's it didnt seem that important.

Now I am terrified and truly aware of it all.

I guess the one I remember most clearly is the 1997 one.
Had been married a year, just bought our first home, was expecting 1st child any day and getting really really excited that she wouldn't be born under a Tory government.

Remember the 1992 one because I was on nights as a nurse. We had a load of young, quite well patients and they all sat up all night with us watching the results come in.

Although I was 11 when Thatcher came to power, I have completely blocked out any memory of it from my mind.

helyg, we must be the same age as I have the exact same memory of 1997 - it felt very exciting at the time. I remember a student friend whose dad was a millionaire literally crying when labour got in.

Thatcher resigning was as exciting as any election.

Was fairly pregnant in 2005. Can't remember a thing about 2001; was probably studying for accountancy exams. In 1997 I was studying for finals at university and remember studying in the Museum Gardens in York and hearing election things blaring out through the air.

In 1979 I was nearly 4 so don't remember much .

Do remember the 1990 leadership battles - got surprisingly into it.

I don't remember Thatcher getting in as I was only 1 at the time!

When Blair got in I was a 1st year student and it was the first time that I could vote. I remember it feeling as though we had changed the world... The day after the election was beautifully sunny and everyone (I was living in the swing seat of Edgbaston) seemed over the moon.

Oh the naivety of youth
