Fantastic, impassioned speech by Gordon Brown to Citizens UK. Great stuff.

This was posted by onebatmother on the webchat thread. I think it deserves a thread of its own.

Excellent speech. I challenge the Conservative and LibDem supporting MNers to link to a speech by the other leaders which comes close to this.

Reminds me of the speech he made after Labour won the election in '97. I remember thinking he should have been PM at the time and not Blair.

Onebat says you have to be logged in to FB to see it.

(I didn't have to actually log in perhaps summat automatic happened.)

Read about this, will need to listen when have some peace. I am in awe of how politicians maintain the momentum though.

Some of the audience went for a wee during Cameron's rather bland speech. Chairs behind him are empty.

Hello Molesworth. I noticed on another thread that your MP is Rifkind - he was the MP of the constituency I grew up in. I used to work at a riding centre he came to, he was always very pleasant. Don't know what sort of MP he made as I was too young.

Do you know if Clegg's speech is on the net?

Only to be expected, Molesworth. This type of event is made for GB. He might be a bit uncomfortable with the superficial politicking stuff but G Brown can has more genuine commitment to social justice in his little finger than anything Cleggron could muster in a month of Mondays. (Oh I do love a mixed metaphor!)

He should have been PM. This speech gives us a glimpse of what might have been (she said sentimentally)

Btw both Cameron and Clegg spoke at the same event, but it seems to have been generally agreed that Brown wiped the floor with them.
