I'm with you policywonk. If nothing else, this election has brought out the militant in me again. I am so angry that Labour haven't been shouting about all their successes over the last decade, I really feel as though they have capitulated. I was a party member through the late 80s/early 90s, then through political apathy I let it lapse. I really feel a need now to get more involved at constituency level.

I currently have my head in my hands after reading some of the delusional crap on other threads about how great it is going to be under the Tories. FFS. Anyone who lived through the 1980s and remembers the mess the UK was in.........how the hell can they justify voting for that shower. Words fail me.

Rather shallowly, there's a tiny bit of me looking forward to the idea that the tories would have to be on the defensive if they got on - no more jibing about how marv they would be in power, just having to answer as to why they're not. But it's small consolation.

Agree re. Labour's record on tax credits. I think they haven't been shouting enough about this. It was only when ex-DP and I split that I realised how incredible the provision is for single mothers now, especially if you work. Most people just aren't aware of it, because they're not in that situation. But it makes a huge difference to the prospects of the children of one-parent families.

Don't talk about fighting in 6 months time. Fight now!

I have seen what 13 years of investment in public services can do and it sickens to me to think about it being ripped apart by a bunch of smiling thugs.

labout are indeed a shower of shyte and tories will make poor people very poor indeed. my very bones tell me lib dems are the way to go for this country, and if the tories get in, then i will have voted the way that i wanted to, that i thought about and decided best. i refuse after the history of the working classes that brought the vote to me, to waste it on something i do not wholeheartedly believe in

I was thinking today actually, after a rather heated thread yesterday, just how much I personally have benefitted under the Labour govt. Big things like tax credits, help getting back to work, quick access to mental health services when I really needed it, that I would be heartbroken if others in my position did not get the same in the future. If the tories do get in, I will not hesitate to join the local labour party I well remember when they got in 13 years ago, I had just started a fully paid for place at private school and one of the first things they did was to stop assisted places. I always thought I'd never forgive them for that. Things change.

The Tories may be marginally worse for the British poor than Labour over the lifetime of the next parliament. But if Labour are elected they will also have to cut public services - as it was they who bailed out private banking.

Labour missed huge opportunities to reform economics in the UK, instead they propped up real power - banking - and passed the cost onto the public. Us.

My main gripe is the notion that Labour represent lefties.

The Liberals? Yes they are to the left of Labour and the Tories. But what they will do if/when they get to power is another matter. Power corrupts, i think that should be obvious.

Whatever party gets in will bring in cuts. Harsh ones. DO you all seriously think a LibDem/Labour coalition wouldn't do the same?

And why should the public sector be immune from the pay freezes and pensions cuts the rest of us have had to put up with?
