And telling my neighbour they were lowering the tone of the neighbourhood as they hammered in their Tory sign

I read the article and all the comments on the thread devoted to it - I don't have anything more to add and if I did, I'd write it there. Yes, it's not an acceptable situation if it's true - but I feel the same way about our local Lib Dem council who've been an absolute disaster and spent all our council tax on a new office instead of services. What I am voting for is to reduce the deficit. I'm scared that if we don't do that properly and take the hard times now, in a generation we'll all be in far worse shape and the wonderful services we have (like the NHS) will be reduced to bare bones. This is a serious fear for me...

I very much doubt Cameron and Osbourne (shudder! there goes the man of zero experience. Even the City is worried about that particular CoE) would have been half as pro active in bailing out the banks and then where would we be?

I'm not sure I'll be "glad" antoinette - the country/economy is so unbelievably fucked that of course cuts will need to be made. I grew up in Canada where there is the equivalent of the NHS, where there is a strong state to help people, and where poverty levels are, I believe, better. Funny thing is that Canada doesn't run a deficit when times are good. We can be fiscally and morally responsible at the same time.

I love it here (we're in scotland too) and even though the cost of living is high and our jobs are uncertain, we're not planning on leaving regardless of who gets into power. We're here to stick it out.

And I'm voting conservative - which will financially hurt us as a family (Lib Dems have by far the best policy for us and for anyone in the tax bracket between £50-100K) but I believe we can't keep going with this level of spending. I am prepared to pay more personally in taxes (as long as we stay employed) to help those who need it, but I don't support Labour's spending policies (including child trust fund, child benefit for families like mine etc).
