...on the grounds that if we assume there will be a Tory govt, then the crowing triumphalism of all the Chinless Wonders and Thrusting Monetarists and Nasty Racists who'll poke in here to crow and gloat, will somehow force a cosmic rift in the time-space continuum. And it will be like 1992 all over again but the other way round.

I fear the best we can hope for is a hung parliament.

I've suggested hemlock for the Election Night supper thread...

Or assume it's all their fault or some personal failing of theirs that they are in such a situation.

I remember the excitement of 1997 - It was weeks before my 18th birthday and we were in a club when we found out that Labour had won - we all went back to a mate's house to watch Portillo lose his seat.

I remember waking my 2 year old up so that she could watch, bemused, as Labour won. I remember earnestly explaining to her how significant a moment it was........

Last election in my constituency:

Cuntservative: 51%
Labour:30%
Lib Dem:15%

Now, we have a standing down shamed Tory MP. We have been Tory here forever.

Anyone fancy pondering the following:

Will a shamed (expenses) MP cause any Tory voters to switch alliance, or will they not care as the expenses scandal was wide ranging?

If they do switch vote, are they more likely to go Labour or Lib Dem (I don't want to even think about UKIP - 4%)?

As a Green voter with no candidate, who would you vote for, given that you are not a Labour voter and never have been BUT you would like to contribute to keeping the twats out at all costs?

The only positive I can think of is that it won't be long before the shine wears off and a lot of people who voted the Tories in will realise what they are really about.

This thread is starting to be a bit like reading the Guardian. Let's be realistic here [makes 'sincere but firm' chopping wood trustable-style hand gesture] I am absolutely certain the Tories are going to be in by 30 - 35 seats, and if you lived in Oxfordshire you'd be certain too. Reasons to be cheerful:

i)Possible that PR could put Tories out of power for a long time. Rise of the Lib Dems.

ii)Tories have accepted some of the centrist themes such as "society", NHS errr...

iii)NC is more charismatic than DC so DC will not have his own way for long

Do have room for a worried woolly left of centre liberal? pinkfushia has said it much more eloquently than I ever could, but I cannot bear the thought of the Tories getting in, and would be equally dismayed at a LibDem/Tory coalition.

BTW my cat was most definitely a Tory (of the fat cat variety)

I came face to face with a Tory leafletter today while I was out on my LibDem rounds. We grinned at each other. She said 'Don't give that cat one, he's a Tory cat' and I said 'Most cats I know are anarchists'.

If only I could be sure our sitting LibDem MP would beat the vile buffoon who is standing for the Tories without the benefit of my vote I would vote Communist this time. But I dare not.
