Are you going to have an Election party?

I quite fancy this but I don't think any of my friends have the same politcal view as I do? It's a working day the following day?
I'm not that savvy on these subject but thought it would be fun!!!
The really results aren't known until the morning and it is boring in the early part of the evening.
What do you do think

Was invited to a big one when Obama was elected, but that was the day DS and I came home from hospital and he was feeding round the clock.

I stayed up to watch the election, but not to party .

I wish I was American so I could join in. Sadly American pal was out of the country so I couldn't join her. I am now going to look at the menu planning for Thursday.
So far no taker, so it will just be me on my own with popcorn as DH goes to a pub Quiz on Thursdau

We had one for Mr. Obama last year. We drank a blue shot everytime a state was won, and were properly in the bag by the end of things. We literally wept and danced in the streets.

I'll have to come to the MN one... shame as it's my first election, oh well. Votes for our constituency are not being counted until the next day though

We always do. Board games and wine until 10pm then popcorn and beer until the Michael Portillo moment when most of us go to bed and dh stays up until dawn. We did it for the US elections too. Don't think he went to bed at all that night.

Why is it sad, southeastastra? Might not be everyone's idea of a good time but it's an important event and worth marking, I reckon. And I throw seriously good parties.

HeathenOfSuburbia - sorry, off topic, but wondered if the 'don't forget to vote' leaflets were affiliated to particular party or a more general thing. If the latter I'd love to do something similar.

We are but think it is just me, DP and best friend. We don't live near many of our friends anymore and one politically minded friend is making the trek.

She votes Torey, I will be voting Lib Dem but very left wing views, DP will probably vote Lib Dem but sways on the more right wing side of things. Should be interesting! If the Tory's get in I will be outnumbered.

Oh and Paddy Power have an election microsite by the way for anyone who fancies a bit of a flutter. You can bet on every constituency.

Nuttybear - maybe southeastastra just thinks it is sad to be having a party because of the election being on... to be fair I often wonder why they're not on Fridays so more people could be up to follow the results, or (and perhaps very unpopular!) just to do the counting during the day on Friday and then the results could come out at nice intervals on Saturday from 3pm, so we could enjoy a 6 hour marathon at home, in the pub, or wherever

Phrenology Right I've text the invitations out. I bet no one says yes as its a working day the next day.
My best mate would've but she lives too far away. If no one takes my offer I'm going to be on and off the phone to her! I think 11pm will be enough for me. I'm not that knowledgable but I think things will be very feel very different the following day (but after that back to normal!)

yup, caffine will be needed! Luckily my loyalty only extends to 11pm then I'm allowed to bed ds will ensure I'm up at 5 am to see the final declarations anyway

No, I'll be at the mn one instead! Dh research field is the election, so he will be in his office with tv, radio, Twitter, fb, all news sites and live feeds running.

I will not get a word out of him all night!

They did say from 5am, TBH the odds on me actually being there that early are pretty low.

Guess we could start with the pensioner areas, they're always up at the crack of dawn...

I'm not involved at all, Nuttybear - it was just a small warning / joke (I don't expect anyone to get tea slops thrown from a bedroom, but I would be sorely tempted to give someone a piece of my mind if their delivery at 05:45 caused the whole household to wake, and worse if someone's dog started barking, starting a chain reaction down the street!)

There was a thread some time ago about some area where the Police Community Support Officers were delivering leaflets after midnight, something which could give a really timid / frightened person a heart attack, even if the reasons for delivering the leaflets was sensible, the timing was (in my view) far from appropriate.
