I won't be voting Tory because...

I no longer live in the UK, but if I did I wouldn't vote Tory even if you put a gun to my head. I'm old enough to remember Thatcher too, and anyone who believes this cuddly Conservative Cameron crap is in for a rude awakening.

I care about people who dont have the choices I am lucky to have

Fucking hell, the whole country is on an economic precipice.

NuLabour has been in power for the last 13 years.

I remember the last time.

I remember what wankers the Bullingdon lot were when I was at Oxford (my time there overlapped with Boris and the boys), how they despised ordinary students, and I can remember saying then (one always speculated about who the future politicos were) that when these people were running the country it would not be because I had voted for them.

Because they have yet to come out with one word of sense on the economic crisis.

No, but they are in agreement with the IMF - we all know there will be cuts but the IMF say cuts need to come later, not immediately.

I won't be voting Tory because...
The Tories cannot possibly win in my constituency. So I will be voting for the candidate that will keep NuLabour OUT.

I would urge everyone that puts the well being of this country to vote for any candidate (except the BNP of course) who has the hope of defeating their local labour MP.

If NuLabour gets in again the country will be ruined totally.

For Britain's sake vote tactically people!!

Having considered all the posts above, I will be voting Tory in the next election for numerous reasons (this list is definitely not exhaustive!):

Firstly, I am in a position where I have to put my son through private nursery as there are no Sure Start centres close to where we live. After tax and NI contributions, I have a nominal about in pay to actually live off, and all because I have too much pride to claim benefits. I get nothing from the Labour government

Secondly, it is reported that in order to close the financial deficit we currently find ourselves in, Labour are seriously considering abolishing tax on childrens clothes and VAT on household essentials (as well as increasing the VAT threshold to 20%). In my mind, if this is a tax on the poorer members of our society, I don?t know what is, because it sure as hell will hit poorer families.

Thirdly, Gordon, as Chancellor for goodness knows how many years, can?t even get his evidence at Chilcott right with regards to the defence budget and didn?t have the decency to apologise in his letter to rectify his statement.

Fourthly, the farce that is the Omagh bombing in 1997 and the proposed ?Death Tax?. Need I say more?

Fifthly, they have little idea how to run the economy ?there needs to be cuts made, but not introducing serious cuts until the budget in April 2011 is madness. I too am old enough to remember the last time they were in power and i would never ever vote for them.

I think you're actually describing the current government - doesn't lying under oath count as fairly morally bankrupt (Gordon Brown at the Chilcot enquiry)? Talking about the Chilcot enquiry, even if Brown didn't lie, and simply got his figures confused (which is what he claims) that strikes me as unacceptably clueless!

I think they are, too. And if they are not then I know people like us, the working poor, just don't even merit a blip on their radars. They just don't even care enough to find out, how we live. I'll bet they can't even conceive, of the concept of a working poor.

Hopefully, after 15 April, I will work on the ferry boats, swapping shifts with my husband who works in a hotel, driving folk through in a minibus or on front desk or portering or just whatever needs done. This is our high season.

And I don't like to think, it is all to feather their nests and they don't even care.

For me, it's for an example, to my children. A way to try to think I, we, can be something more.

But they'll never understand that. Because they don't care.

So that's why I, a Yank with energy only when I'm pushed, will campaign against them.

I'm old enough to remember the Thatcher days. Never again, please. David Cameron is hardly leader material anyway is he. Think he's probably a lovely chap and all that, but a leader? No.

OP - do you really think Labour aren't going to make massive cuts too? The difference is they will be even more random and ill-thought through and they won't tell you about them before the election!

Because they want to expand faith schools. No Dave, that's just wrong.

bobthebuddha - they haven't explicitly said they'll cut 200m from surestart, but they have heavily hinted that they will.

surestart is one of Labour's greatest acheivements (along with tax credits, the minimum wage and free nursery places), and I do think they will cut it. even if, as they now say, they will will replace "outreach workers" for the poorest with hvs for all, I still think that's a bad idea.

I will not vote for them because their arguments now are frighteningly close to Thatcher's arguments in the early 80s (cut deficit at all costs etc). remember, in the 80s we had 3.5 million unemployed, by the claimant count (and they kept changing the definition too). now, despite the deepest world recession since the 30s, and a bigger population, we have 2.5 million unemployed, by the labout survey (which is more accurate).

I don't want people like Zac Goldsmith, a man who never had to work a day in his life, is a non-dom and ditched his wife after having an affair for 3 years, legislating what happens to the sweat of our brows and what happens to my children, the only thing in the world that makes life worth living for me, which they care not a jot about except in any sense that it enriches them and their cronies or relations.
