Some good news to start the week!
The mainstream media might be quiet about it, but the numbers donโ€™t lie: Reform UK just lost SIX by-elections in a single week.

Their momentum is officially hitting a wall. On Thursday, they failed to win across the UK and even lost the incumbent seats they were supposed to defend:

  • Amble Ward (Northumberland) โ€” LOST (Gained by Labour)
  • Hirst Ward (Northumberland) โ€” LOST (Reclaimed by Labour)
  • Claremont Ward (Blackpool) โ€” LOST (Held by Labour)
  • Long Whatton & Diseworth Ward (NW Leicestershire) โ€” LOST (Held by Conservatives)
  • Wick & East Caithness Ward (Highland) โ€” LOST (Stormed by Lib Dems)
  • Forth & Endrick Ward (Stirling) โ€” LOST (Held by Conservatives) about:blank 1, 2]

The right-wing vote is splitting down the middle, squeezing them out in low-turnout battles. Proof that real, local communities are seeing through the rhetoric.

Keep it up lads! ๐Ÿ™Œ

Islamic terrorism accounts for 75% of MI5s active terrorism case load.

How on earth can you possibly know this?

Blair and Straw are yesterdayโ€™s men.

Righhhtโ€ฆbut theyโ€™re not extremists.

And that means Its not exactly right wing terrorism we need to be scared of?

MI5 thinks otherwise.

Both are a big worry

Salisbury poisonings

You mean Putinโ€™s goons? That wasnโ€™t right-wing, it was left -wing, a nerve agent developed by the Soviets and deployed by ex-KGB men on the orders of an ex-KGB head of state.

Why are we clutching at the meagre straws of other types of terrorism out of interest? It seems to be on here for tribal reasons. Which is fine of course but seems to be not where the main issue lies.

So you don't have a clue about the subject at hand, but you mouth off anyway?

How rude.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 18/10/2026 20:43

Yes. As would a far left government. But thatโ€™s not really the point.

Blair said he would suspend the application of articles of the ECHR domestically if they hindered anti-terrorist policy. And Jack Straw recently proposed change to neuter the HRA, said that the GRA did not rely on the ECHR and called Starmerโ€™s argument that the UK would be a pariah if it ditched the ECHR โ€œnonsensicalโ€. There is a moderate and respectable case for change.

The ECHR is really not the guarantor you think it is, and itโ€™s not extreme to want to reduce or remove its effect.

Blair and Straw are yesterdayโ€™s men.

Strangely I donโ€™t work for MI5 so the director general hasnโ€™t confided in me.

I was asking for specifics, you know, examples of right-wing attacks on UK soil. But there are none, so you're clutching at straws.

Can you name any Islamist terror attacks on UK soil?

Yes. As would a far left government. But thatโ€™s not really the point.

Do you also not agree @Pineneedlesincarpet that 'scrapping' the ECHR would most certainly lead to a dissolving of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland?

No. The existence of the Union does not depend on the ECHR. Odd thing to worry about.

I do worry that Andy Bs devolution policy does threaten the union tbough. Thats far more causative.

There were a lot of things we didnโ€™t have before the HRA. I donโ€™t much fancy going back to not having them.

Youre cleverer than this, Im sure.

SubstandardMotelsOnTheLa · 18/10/2026 18:55

And we managed between 1951 and 2000 without the HRA

Did we? There were no abuses of human rights during that time?

They weren't enshrined in one law being the HRA obviously. But the law has developed perfectly adequately domestically over the years. We don't need to rely on the judgements of European judges.
