Reform lost 6 by elections this week ๐ŸŽ‰

Some good news to start the week!
The mainstream media might be quiet about it, but the numbers donโ€™t lie: Reform UK just lost SIX by-elections in a single week.

Their momentum is officially hitting a wall. On Thursday, they failed to win across the UK and even lost the incumbent seats they were supposed to defend:

  • Amble Ward (Northumberland) โ€” LOST (Gained by Labour)
  • Hirst Ward (Northumberland) โ€” LOST (Reclaimed by Labour)
  • Claremont Ward (Blackpool) โ€” LOST (Held by Labour)
  • Long Whatton & Diseworth Ward (NW Leicestershire) โ€” LOST (Held by Conservatives)
  • Wick & East Caithness Ward (Highland) โ€” LOST (Stormed by Lib Dems)
  • Forth & Endrick Ward (Stirling) โ€” LOST (Held by Conservatives) about:blank 1, 2]

The right-wing vote is splitting down the middle, squeezing them out in low-turnout battles. Proof that real, local communities are seeing through the rhetoric.

Keep it up lads! ๐Ÿ™Œ

Thank you for actually engaging with the point. I get that Reform are false prophets. I think the Labour party havent helped themselves with things like Chagos or trans or Gaza etc...luxury obsessions that dont deal with anything useful. And the Conservatives have done nothing for the north. And Rotherham rape gangs have been replicated throughout the country but we dont hear much now. Apart from Rupert Lowe from Restore. Which again is a disaster. Hes filling a vacuum. No one cares about the north. The region where I live has nothing. No industry and extremely high benefits dependency. Reform seem to have an answer as you say. Its not one I agree with as I dont like their economic solutions so they wont be able to help poor areas I dont think they will succeed if they did get in.

I'm not sure the 'luxury obsessions' thing is that big a deal. I've never heard anyone in my home community voice an opinion one way or the other on Gaza, Chagos or trans people.
What I hear is working people blaming people on benefits for the fact they pay tax, and people on benefits blaming immigrants for the fact they don't get as much they they need in benefits.
I see people complaining about the cost of living and shortage of housing and blaming 'the government' (take your pick which administration, because 'they're all the same')
I see people at the end of their tether because their neighbourhoods are awful and they can't make ends meet, and "giving Nigel a chance because the others are rubbish"
Which is pretty harsh on Labour really, as they are the party most likely to centre their interests, as we see already with changes to employment law, renters rights, reluctance to reduce welfare and so on, and have only been in power a comparatively short time.
However, a large chunk of working class people have always been inexplicably (to me) right wing and suspicious of Labour.

It would be good if Tories did the same and vote for centre or centre left parties to stop him.

I agree, but mostly they wonโ€™t. They hate โ€˜leftiesโ€™ more than they hate Reform.

If Reform voters are uncomfortable facing this wave of disapproval then they need to take a closer look at the party they support.

Exactly. They flipping well should feel uncomfortable!

I think youve missed my point or ignored it. Which is fine. Its a shame you keep your head in the sand and ignore what I said about why people vote for Reform. But there are a lot of them and they cant be ignored for ever.

Even if Farage became PM those people will still be ignored. He won't make their lives any better. That is the frustrating thing.

SubstandardMotelsOnTheLa · 19/10/2026 18:27

Pineneedlesincarpet · 19/10/2026 17:42

I don't personally know them. Or not many now I think of it. But I have ears and can listen in pubs. I can get a pretty good idea, anecdotal as that is. I do live in a very poor region so perhaps middle class polite voices aren't as prevalent as elsewhere.

Are you saying only the working class express sexism and racism? As a working class person I'd like to know.

Pineneedlesincarpet · 19/10/2026 18:24

BIossomtoes · 19/10/2026 18:16

Theyโ€™ll be ignored if Farage throws the towel in because theyโ€™ll collapse like a house of cards without him. I suspect it wouldnโ€™t take much now to make him cash in his chips and bugger off to the US.

True

5128gap · 19/10/2026 18:12

I don't disagree with your first paragraph at all.
I also live in a deprived community, festooned with flags and with a Reform council. I also hear people saying things that are racist and sexist. Though the type of things said in the Reform documentary are very extreme. I've not heard anyone go that far, though perhaps they do when sure they're amongst the like minded.
I don't disagree with you at all. However, this isn't new information or a complex analysis and I'd be very surprised if it's passed the other parties by.
Certainly Labour get it. As you say, Burnham has centred these communities in his stated vision. However, he got it anyway, as do very many Labour supporters, and long before Reform came along pretending to listen, but really only listening to and amplifying the bits that suit their agenda.
Don't get me wrong, they've played a blinder. Ridden into town on the back of 14 years of Tory neglect and given people the problem (immigration) and the solution (stop the boats) in one easy to digest package.
People support them because they believe their false coin and no, bad language won't put them off. The only thing that can do that is a government that will actually improve their lives and Burnham is at least taking the right steps. But he's got an uphill battle.

I know why people vote Reform. The Reform voters here never tire of telling us. Over and over again.

I'm surprised they need a non Reform voter to be their mouthpiece tbh.

By derailing, whataboutery and minimisation of Reform's actions you are part of Reform's campaign, whether you are aware of it or not.

Thank you for that most interesting insight. Since I havenโ€™t engaged in derailing, whataboutery or minimisation of Reform's actions Iโ€™ll ignore it.

That a lot of people in regions of the north for example dont give two hoots about polite talk or what is socially acceptable or probably care what ITV filmed.. Many feel they have been utterly shafted and ignored by successive governments (one good thing AB is doing is highlighting the north exists). Many feel there is no future for them at all. They listen to Labour and the Conservatives pretend to care, but benefit their own voter groups. The Labour Party has betrayed them hence the red wall went. Boris betrayed them. So they look for something new..a party that seems to speak for them and acknowledge their jobs may have been taken by an immigrant or wages under cut by an immigrant. NF speaks for them. He speaks like a bloke without political language. They wont care a bit about some bad language. Thats how they speak. They wouldnt give a hoot about the disapproval on here. Why would they? No one has cared about them for decades.

Those are my thoughts on it. This is what Labour or the Conservatives need to deal with. I havent any view on whether the tyoes of people above are right or wrong. Presumably everyone on here will condemn them as racists as they have been for the last 39 pages. Disapproval of any comment other than one condemning Reform.

Edit..and actually its not just working class people. Plenty of middle class people feel the same..quite bitter.

BIossomtoes · 19/10/2026 18:11

I suspect the tactical voting for โ€œanything except Reformโ€ will be massive if they still exist at the next GE. To the point where any polling is meaningless.

TooBigForMyBoots · 19/10/2026 18:10

Pineneedlesincarpet · 19/10/2026 17:57

There arent any on here. Probably because they dont give a hoot what people think of them and will (correctly) assume its negative coming from non Reform supporters.

So you've come to scold, campaign and argue on their behalf? Poor pets.

TopPocketFind · 19/10/2026 18:05

Reform's Press Office said that they are there to defend the indefensible.

It's not just them doing it.

Reform voters know who and what they are voting for.

Why would they care? Thats the least of tbeir worries. I get about a bit with my job and talk to a lot of people of all sorts. And I love a chat about the state of the world clearly! And thats what I can say I've seen. So i suspect the polls won't budge much. I may be wrong.

No. I dont support Reform and Im not defending Reform. But I find this thread rather sanctimonious. We have no Reform voters on here presumably because they would find it very uncomfortable facing this wave of disapproval to explain why they support them. And no. Not all Reform voters are racists. Its the Brexit vote all over again. Disapprove and "other" anyone who you (not you personally) label thick racists. And then leave won.

Whats the point? Whats the aim?

If Reform voters are uncomfortable facing this wave of disapproval then they need to take a closer look at the party they support.

You said that people don't welcome comments on the reasons people vote Reform. I told you why I don't welcome the ones I've seen. Because they say the same buzz phrases over and over and add nothing new. You then suggested there were other deeper views on the subject that are useful to hear. What are they?
