Greens adopt policy treating Zionism as racism

The Greens have formally adopted a policy which equates Zionism with racism, a move that will dismay the bulk of the party’s MPs and has alarmed some Jewish members.

In a vote on Sunday at the party’s annual conference in Brighton about whether to back a motion which calls for Zionism, the movement for a Jewish state, to be “treated as any other form of racism”, it passed by 1,022 votes to 813.

The motion, which is now formal policy for the Greens in England and Wales, also calls for a single Palestinian state in place of Israel “with equal rights for all”.

Four of the party’s five MPs have condemned the motion, as did Caroline Lucas, the former leader who was the Greens’ first MP.

Adrian Ramsay, who co-led the Greens before Polanski, said in a statement he would vote against it, as it set out what sort of Palestinian state should exist without taking into account the self-determination of Israelis and Palestinians.

Siân Berry, another of the MPs, made the same point.

Carla Denyer, the Bristol Central MP who was co-leader with Ramsay, said the wording “risks alienating a significant proportion of Jewish people, including those who vehemently disagree with the Israeli government”.

Another Green MP, Ellie Chowns, said the motion “risks fuelling division, and risks undermining the party’s ability to advocate effectively for justice and peace”.

Something else to cheer me up is hearing that the first Green Party councillor has defected to another party because of the new policy.

Daniel Potter, who sits on Babergh District Council in Suffolk had defected to the Conservative party. He said the vote about Zionism "disturbs me greatly".

A principled man. Where are all the others in the Green Party and how can they justify staying in the party with this policy in place?

I grew up in the states and always voted Democrat. Two party system and all my social leanings are more left. Moved to the UK 20 something years ago and have bounced around Labour and SNP (don’t judge! Years back) and Green (ick). The last couple years have left me totally homeless. No one makes any sense to me at all.

Went on the BBC and the ‘Israel marking 3 years’ feed is mostly a lot of stories about Gaza. Surely someone could consider that 1200 people dying in horror doesn’t have to be memorialised with a string of stories about other people?

Chilling. Plus - they have willing fools to help them.

Never any shortage of willing fools. They think they're taking a principled stand but they're not. Muslims outnumber Jews in the UK by approx ten to one. So the willing fools are also cowards.

The BBC have been terrible on this issue. They've probably tried to hide their bias and have failed miserably. BBC Verify? What a joke.

Here in Wales the deputy leader of the Welsh Green Party has resigned from the party over the vote.

The Green MPs who disagree with this vote should all defect from "The Greens" and form a new party called "The Environmentalist Party" or similar, and let everyone who wants to build public policy on the basis of Environmental priorities come and join them there. The Greens are very clear in their policies that Environmental considerations are not really very important to them, so should be able to campain on the issues they prioritise without the pesky expectations of those members.

ScarlettOYara · 07/10/2026 14:34

Some people have been arrested for inciting racial hatred outside the offices of the Board of Deputies of British Jews. Placards, chanting etc.
Isn't that a Jewish communal organisation?
So, not targeting Israel. Of course.

Don’t know much about them, assume they are very small, but their positioning is spot on for voters who want climate action without the other baggage that the Green Party comes with.

I suppose their argument would be that it was their party first and had been infiltrated by Far Left and Islamist activists from ' Greens for Palestine' The problem is the leadership are doing nothing about it. Apparently one of the speakers at the conference (she was in charge of Hannah Spencer's campaign) is in trouble with the Charities Commission for saying that mosques were endorsing the Green Party but because that's not allowed under their charitable remit they were doing it ' undercover'. Instead of investigating illegal activity by Green campaigners they have said she didn't really mean actually undercover she meant something else that in no language means ' undercover'. I think the traditional Greens have lost the party. I only hope that every time the new Green Party break the law, they are prosecuted. They are seeing how far they can go, and The Greens are allowing them to go as far as they like. I'm glad there have been arrests for inviting racial hatred.

What's happened is classic entryism and infiltration. Militant tried this with the Labour Party in the 80s but they didn't get such a willing reception.

I expect the Greens will split eventually but it will be messy.

If mosques are endorsing the Green Party, it sounds like they're already quite a long way down the road to an Islamist takeover.

They're replacing one single issue (the environment) with another (Gaza). A great pity as for us in the UK, the environment is much more important: trees, the countryside, our urban and rural environment and our wildlife.

Martin Daubney on GB News just breaking down interviewing the cousin of a murdered Jewish hostage. Yeah, what a filthy hate filled fascist thug Martin is. The hard left make me sick. Always calling other outlets out for spewing hate when they are right in the thick of it.

A woman at school pickup today was wearing an Israel flag covered by a watermelon. An educated privileged person celebrating a terror attack on a day of mourning, displaying it for all to see. What is honestly wrong with people that they can be so hostile and disrespectful, and lose their humanity.

What was she trying to prove, that she was better than everyone else because she failed on that one. Embarrassing attention seeking behaviour.

Scary 'progressive activist' type.

Regardless of my view, I would never wear something that celebrated murder and kidnap and torture, ever. Do these people think at all about what they're actually doing, or are they so wrapped up in their tribalist victimhood that they see their actions as justified? Have avoided news/things I knew would be upsetting today, and felt so upset seeing that.

Good man.

Phil Davies said he resigned over the motion to declare "Zionism is racism" because it was "pointless" and some of the statements made were "disgraceful".

He announced on social media on Tuesday his decision to quit the party had been "accelerated" by Sunday's conference motion.

In the post he had described the motion as "imperialistic" and "idiotic", and said Welsh Greens should consider splitting away from the English part of the party.

I think certain mosques have been doing this for a long time and have been allowed to do it, just as they have been allowed to invite hardline preachers in from Saudi and Iran. Lutfer Rahman in Tower Hamlets was jailed for electoral fraud offences for doing something similar, comes out of jail and stands again and is elected. Unfortunately again it's only the Right that is highlighting this while it is minimised by Labour and ignored completely by The Greens. I wonder who it is who is being pressurised into voting a certain way. You can bet it isn't powerful male community leaders. It's likely to be powerless women's votes being stolen.

Yes 'family voting', more clan-based behaviour flourishing in our weak and turn-a-blind-eye country.

When did Britain become such a soft touch? Was it when people like the Greens thought they're on the right side of history, siding with the people who are intimidating others.

Yep. Clan voting - Biradari, which is what I posted about yesterday. A huge danger to western democracy - you only have to see how toxic politics is in Pakistan where it is endemic.

This is another individual, MP for Perry Barr, who is part of Your Party, who has some interesting views on Israel and Jewish people.

“he claimed he had a "problem with the credibility” of some accounts detailing the Hamas massacre,“

https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/row-over-anti-semitism-birmingham-28433802

“Previously, Mr Khan cast doubt on reports that women had been raped during the Hamas-led Oct 7 2023 attacks on Israel.“

“A pro-Gaza MP has shared a conspiracy theory about the attempted hijacking of an Israel-bound flight”

“Not going to simply accept what the lying Bibi butcher of Gaza says.” “I smell a rat”

Now it’s been proven the attack on the plane was an attempted terrorist attack, has Khan apologised?

I mean, it's clear these people are committing terrorist attacks. Why, as they are obviously supportive of them say they agree with them/freedom fighters/ armed resistance wholeheartedly instead of pretending terrorists aren't doing terrorist things when they and their cronies have advocated for a single Palestinian state ' by any means necessary' anyway, so what do they think that means? Either admit that you approve of terrorist attacks or stay quiet but what's the point of pretending it was something else when they are doing something you want? I know he's in Your Party but as far as I can see the only difference between them and The Greens is that they openly dislike Polanski rather than seeing him as a useful idiot.

There was a post memorialising October 7th on a local FB page.
Up pops the inevitable activist with a 'Let's also remember the 70k killed in the genocide' post, followed by another with 'The Lancet said it was 175k'. I was poised to launch at them when I realised that the moderator had said, 'Let's just have one day to remember those poor people' and closed comments.

Why is it that all the people who got hot under the collar if anyone reacted to 'Black Lives Matter' with 'All Lives Matter' are so f*ck!ng 'All Lives Matter' when the dead are Israelis, or the people being persecuted are Jews? I had it with a friend on FB - 'Oh, everyone deserves to live in safety, whatever their faith...' Statement of the bleeding obvious, but I wasn't posting about everybody, I was posting about Jews just after those two men were stabbed in London. I look at her differently now...
