When & how will Burnham’s honeymoon come to an end?

Burnham’s leadership has been relatively free of drama, so far, and certainly when compared to his hapless predecessor.

What do we think will represent Burnham’s first real test? The budget, or something else?

Reform are creeping back up as well.

Not in the most recent polls or this doozy of a by-election result.

Quickly hopefully before he and his shower bankrupt us .

Yes it will. Labour are going to get jumpier.

If you think Labour is “jumpy” you’re not paying attention.

Sadly the fact that the police are now investigating themselves for failing to do their job properly when it comes to Farage. It plays exactly into his story of the insitutions being against him.

Sorry too busy 😆 🤣 😂 😹 at your username!

Burnham was in the party. He wasn’t in parliament. You’re talking as if they went and poached someone from another party. Anyway it’s delightful to see him infuriating you so much. He’s clearly doing something right.

OK he was in the party but not exactly in a position to offer up a straight leadership challenge. That's the point. I don't think he's doing OK but I don't owe him any trust.

They’re not. They’re going down. Fewer points in every poll.

That the calibre of leader wasn't already in the party was really poor planning all round. No fall back plan doesn't really inspire confidence if Burnham ever had to lead his party, in defending the country against an attack, for instance.

It’ll be interesting to see. Labour will know they can’t do another ousting as per Starmer.

topcat2014 · 03/10/2026 19:03

He's been on summer break and conference season so hasn't started yet

They are bad. It really is Burnham or bust so if he goes downhill that’s it. They can’t keep panicking if Reform go up.

Big if there. It’s not looking great for them at the moment.

As to the thread topic - let’s see if Burnham’s polling survives first contact with reality.

They are all bad.

No use then to discuss further, your minds have been made up.

Reading the recent polls must be painfull, especially as you were all celebrating Reform's previous position at the top.

LuckyHazelFox · 03/10/2026 19:02

BIossomtoes · 03/10/2026 18:56

They understood what kind of leader was needed. And they were right or you and those like you wouldn’t be so pissed off. If Burnham’s such rubbish voters will be flocking to Badenoch. Isn’t that what you want?

Not one of them confident in their own ability to go straight for the big job. No backbone Labour.

There was hardly much to choose from. So little so that not one of the 400 odd Labour MPs were fit to replace Starmer. That's a really poor show. How long did they have in opposition to prepare?

Yes, extending to the cabinet.

Which includes such luminaries as a convicted fraudster and a tax cheat…

Not a single one. Quite remarkable, I know.

LuckyHazelFox · 03/10/2026 18:53

It was the Labour MPs who were so eager to get rid of Starmer anyway. 200 plus campaigned to do that in Makerfield.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 03/10/2026 18:52

@LuckyHazelFox There are very many poor MPs and few have decent experience of anything, let alone Parliament and leadership. No stars out of 400 of them! Shocking.

I think he’s quite sincere but all these little changes for ‘working families’ make very little difference to anyone’s lives.

Great, I’ll no longer have to pay a fee if I accidentally make a typo on an airline booking - I’ve never done that in my life but hey ho, thanks anyway. A couple of quid off the utility bill - thanks but err, the overall unit price has just gone up again so it makes zero difference. It just feels like he’s tinkering round the edges and ignoring the massive elephant in the room like the price of fuel for starters.

Unless he’s a brilliant actor, I do think he’s sincere but really this is all small town stuff and it’s like he doesn’t realise he’s now running an actual country.
