So did Cameron. When I lived in London, I looked out of my kitchen window to see him on his bike, nattering to someone on the opposite side of the road. I seem to remember that people jeered, because that’s what they do, when a newspaper said that he was followed by a car with his papers and clothes inside. I think it’s tremendous that he raced. Excellent example to the nation of healthy living and absolutely on point with his desire to improve things in the north. He presumably has expensive security every day?

In a world that has Kim Jong Un, Trump and Putin amongst national leaders (there are of course others) running a half marathon for charity is an utterly bizarre thing to find fault with.

It was good to see the PM taking part in the great north run. Decent time for a civilian too, 1hr 57m. (13m / 21k).

Think that was Cameron?

These events have huge security anyway, much of which you can’t see. Snipers on roofs and in buildings that the public won’t even be aware of. They’d be there regardless of who is running as any mass event is a significant risk for terror activity. Possibly a few extra policemen but the Prime Minister running wouldn’t have been a significant extra cost at all.

He actually did it in sub 2. He’s quite an experienced runner. And everyone is huffing and puffing and swearing in a half marathon race!

I mean I assume when they get a new PM, and they're arranging the PPOs, they check with them that they're capable of doing whatever sports the PM (or Queen or whoever) tends to do. Not much point asking someone who can't ride a bike to look after Boris or whatever. So presumably Andy's team will have some people who can run. Because he's presumably going to go running at least a few times a week, whether or not that happens to be for the Great North Run.

I've seen a pic where I think I spotted the protection officers and they were keeping up.

Agree, imagine they are probably quite fit anyway, for the job.
