Oh dear...how's he going to explain this?

Badenoch isn't interested in a pact or coalition.

Do you care about what appear to be illegal foreign donations?
Do you really believe Farage doesn't know what is happening?

If they turn out to be illegal, yes. To what extent, I don't know. It won't alter my vote in any case.

I'm suggesting that whatever went on, it's going to be extremely difficult to pin anything on Farage personally:

'Nigel won't do it', 'he doesn't know, won't know', 'he doesn't know the real extent' etc.

Nice try. But Farage is on the hook for things that Farage has been shown doing and saying.

An electoral pact or coalition with Reform I would be fine with. The Lib Dems reported Keir Starmer on several occasions, but that doesn't mean they would have turned down a coalition government with Starmer.

So are you highlighting that Reform receives more dodgy funding than the "donation" Farage was shown thanking "the American" for in the meeting?

Again, if you can't be bothered to give either time-stamps or context I'm not going to thrash through the video again today.

But if that's the case, then Farage's categorical on-the-record denial to Laura Kuenssberg is toast.

I am surprised how much you as a Conservative are defending Farage,

The Conservative party has expressed concerns about the legalities of Reform's donations and already asked HMRC to look into his £5m donation.

This latest reveal is a gift to Conservatives.

The actual business was done in places other than cars or helicopters.

Clavinova · Yesterday 13:41

PerkingFaintly · Yesterday 13:32

Thanks for the time-stamp. That's fine if you think that in the end the whole journey was by road. <shrug>

In fact, if I was working as an undercover reporter, I would refuse a helicopter. Helicopters are noisy things - much easier to tape conversations in a car.

The filming also tells us that Farage doesn't know the 'real' extent of the support;

Orr - 'He's aware of the support, but he, um, he does not know the real extent of it.'

Or,
Orr, cynically: He doesn't want to know

He's been caught bang to rights

I wouldn't get too excited just yet;

In the film, Orr can be heard saying of the arrangement that Farage “doesn’t know, won’t know” and it was the kind of thing he would “rather not know”.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2026/sep/03/reform-officials-plotted-to-break-law-on-foreign-donations-in-undercover-film

Ah, the Guardian have edited the quote - he also says;

"Nigel won't do it."

The filming also clearly shows Farage interacting with the father and son despite him claiming he wasn't listening.

The polling was “amazing” and provided “bang for buck,” adding: “It worked. Boom.”

It really doesn't matter what mode of transport they used or what they ate and drank.

The foreign donation is the issue here.

You're welcome to pick out the time-stamp in the C4 film for me, Clav.

I just remember the image of the text message to or from Jukes stating they were planning to helicopter Farage to the "donor" in London, or the "donor" to Farage in Clacton.

23 : 27
It's the day of the Farage meeting. They're on the road to the constituency.

The helicopter was a previous suggestion - they obviously didn't run with it.

PerkingFaintly · Yesterday 13:21

By the way, for anyone a bit confused by the plurality of Jukeses on this thread, I should point out I don't know of any connection between Dan Jukes (Farage's recently booted aide) and Peter Jukes (journalist who co-founded Byline Times after live-tweeting Rebekah Brooks et al in the News International phone-hacking trial).

(Edited. What IS the plural of Jukes?Grin)

When is an interview witg Nadine Dorries ever not a car crash.

I caught some of her interview with Matt Frei on LBC yesterday morning. I thought she was great. We (Conservatives) missed a trick not putting her in the House of Lords.

the guy he'd just helicoptered into Clacton

The filming clearly shows they travelled to Clacton by car.

Who said he was helicoptered?

Farage said he "wasn't even listening" to the guy he'd just helicoptered into Clacton during the by-election to get half a million pounds from...

...But that's not even the worst part of the interview! It just keeps getting more Shock

Thanks. Gosh, I've even read that before and failed to remember Mandelson. It's such a long list of movers and shakers with whom Orr cultivates connections and who he invites to his Cambridge not-a-college on the river.

From that Byline Times article:
After Orr’s appointment as head of Reform UK’s policy think tank in September 2025, his work even attracted the attention of New Labour grandee Peter Mandelson, who was apparently planning to “hold drinks in honour” of him, according to a source – just before his sacking as UK Ambassador to the US, after the extent of his relationship with the late sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein was revealed. (Neither Orr nor the Foreign and Commonwealth Office would confirm or deny that this event actually took place).

Indeed, Orr’s lawyers have consistently refused to go on the record in response to this publication’s queries.

PerkingFaintly · Yesterday 12:10

Yes, I agree strongly with all of this.

By the way, do you have any links supporting this story about Orr's collaboration with Mandelson, please?

I won't hold my breath waiting for Reform to publicise such minor detail.Grin

Yes, it is linked below. And just to say to @Warmlight1 - I agree that it is about money (I just find that boring, like as above was said about the techies). I know a bit more about the divinity, philosophy and links to people.

Now, a very different type of ‘dark enlightenment’ has descended on the world-renowned university. Powered by US money and far-right European think tanks, Cambridge has recently become an outpost of a peculiar blend of national conservatism and apocalyptic Christianity, through the figure of James Orr

Palantir Co-Founder Peter Thiel and Reform UK's Cambridge University Recruitment Pipeline Project Revealed

The world-renowned academic institution has nothing to say in response to a six-month investigation by Byline Times raising serious concerns about the safeguarding of students and foreign influence at Cambridge University. Why?

Yes, to us 'the uninitiated' it is all incomprehensible. My take on this is that James Orr has been valuable to Reform - his networking, he is a smoothy who purrs in ears. I think they will try to throw Jukes to the dogs but try to get Orr back on board.

The reason? He gets things done. Think Mandelson - this is why, also incomprehensibly, Mandelson was re-engaged a few times. I understand that Mandelson was so impressed by Orr that he was set to host a reception for him in the US. Very useful to both I would imagine - not sure if it happened. And then Peter got exposed .... followed by James. 😵

I must finish watching The Tech Billionaire Takeover myself.

The problem is I'm finding the tech billionaires themselves surprisingly boring.

They're just same old same old. Old wine in new bottles.

They want a world of non-democratic rule by an elite. But they assume, as such people always do, that THEY will be the nobility. There's no chance their Royal Specialnesses would be plebs.Hmm

They bang about "creating more freedom" but they mean freedom for themselves. (We plebs are permitted roles like faithful retainer or favoured hanger-on. So that's great for us, right?)

They just sound like C19th railway barons getting in a froth about their new-found wealth and power.

I've learned that whenever these folk say things like "radical" and "new", they almost always mean "just like the old times when power rested with People Like Us, ie rich, mostly male, and mostly white."

They also continually try to distract by waving around words like "technology" and "blockchain" – as though these are somehow the electorate or forms of governance in themselves. Rather than acknowledging that technologies are tools, which voters and governors can choose to use.

It was like listening to Uber insist in court that it isn't a ride-hailing company it's an app. And that therefore centuries' worth of legislation built up to protect both passengers and taxi drivers shouldn't apply to it. Courts across the world have gone, "Ha, nice try. No."

Of course the tech bros have long tried to focus on "the technology"... to deflect attention from the actions of the people behind the technology. Basically "A big app did it and ran away."

Sorry, I'm rambling on. These things have been on my mind for a while, as you can tell! Grin

Exactly. To coin phrase- ' Boring, Boring'
