As pointed out by TalkinPeace, the only poll that counts is the one with a ballot box and is presented to all eligible voters. In the UK that’s about 48 million people. Polls incorrectly forecast the following general elections:

1992
2015
2017

Source is britpolls.co.uk

Reform know from their experience in the 2024 general election that percentages and seats are not connected. So, if they have been trying to fudge polls what was the point as polls are not binding anyway.

@DuncinToffee

I am registered on the UK electoral system, but not UK resident. The local council does not check residency even though it available information.

Let me get this right, you're going on about concerns about immigration, whilst currently being an immigrant yourself...

@RedTagAlan

The poll that had Reform ahead was YouGov.

The poll that had Labour ahead was PollCheck.

That polls are publishing different numbers is further evidence they are unreliable.

Let me make a guess here though. I am guessing that if your own political views were more in line with poll results, then you might be saying polls are good.

You have guessed wrong. Polls of 2000 can never be extrapolated to accurately forecast how 48 million people will vote. Even they could, the FPTP electoral system makes percentages meaningless.

Quote "The poll that had Reform ahead was YouGov."

Youguv Date 2026-09-07 has Labour and reform tied at 23% each.

Your info is out of date, and it was out on the 1st of Sept . But it was ok on the 24th of August. Reform were 23% to Labour on 22% then.

I won't link it, because that appears not to be needed. But a couple of clicks and I have the Youguv data set in excel format on my screen.

Now totally fair enough that in the grand scheme of things it does not really matter. I am just a bit pedantic probably. But it does show that claims made often do not match easily obtained data.

Maybe that is why in general, not your good self of course, Reform fans do appear somewhat reluctant to post data that matches their claims. And why Reform are ok with taking allegedly illegal money to pay for polls they like. All for the greater good, as they likely say at Reform HQ.

Tesco has a yellow sticker scheme that marks food at £0 if it’s close the use by date beyond 9:30pm. The idea is to reduce food wastage and help local communities.

No mention of megaphones being used.

Why don’t you test the free bread at Tesco hypothesis yourself. You could post a video on MN and use the megaphone to hide your face.

Or you could just answer the question. But that won't happen I suspect.

@RedTagAlan

Traffickers would not work for free. Before boats were used, they used to arrive in the back of vehicles.

The French president, Macron, has stated UK must make it less appealing to channel migrants. Removal of free accommodation and allowances may reduce the incentive to cross the channel. However, for as long as employers are prepared to risk employing people illegally, some will still take the risk.

As for the free bread at Tesco, people wouldn’t need to bother as UK has many food banks that provide free food. About 3,000 as per the House of Commons report 17 June 2026.

Also, Tesco could have you arrested for making false statements.

Farage is one of 650 MPs and reform has a mere 5 seats. So, they will not be able to swing a vote.

Totally completely and utterly avoided answering the question yet again.

Ahh well. Such is the world of Reform politics, even at online forum level.

You even avoided answering the Tesco question.

Polls vary. Some have Labour slightly ahead. Some have Reform ahead.

Not that it makes any difference due to the FPTP electoral system. Labour have 63% of seats even though they received 34% of the vote in 2024.

Reform received 14.3% and have 5 seats. Liberal Democrat’s received 12.2% and have 72 seats.

So, polls don’t mean anything.

They matter enough to Reform that they use allegedly illegal means to get funding to have them done, and then have the poll company hide who funded the poll. That has also landed the poll company in trouble.

It's a pity Reform did not share your opinion that polls don't matter.

Let me make a guess here though. I am guessing that if your own political views were more in line with poll results, then you might be saying polls are good.

This bit. Quote " Polls vary. Some have Labour slightly ahead. Some have Reform ahead."

Another claim. Can you link one, or maybe some, that have reform ahead ? Don't bother if it is a GB news poll though.

DuncinToffee · 08/09/2026 14:01

@EEexpat I don’t make donations to political parties.

Then Farage does not have to worry about declaring anything from you.

He already has 6 cases on his hands.

So question. Do you think Farage encourages or discourages boat migration when he says the UK has open borders, and that people arriving here get lots of free things, etc ?

Farage neither encourages nor discourages boat arrivals as he is not in a position to control them.

However, it’s correct to say that those who arrive by boat receive free accommodation at the taxpayers expense. The last figure I remember was £6 million per day.

Ahh right. I need to be more specific on my question then. Or lets use the mostly same words, but re-arrange them a bit.

When he says the UK has open borders, and that people arriving here get lots of free things, do you thing that encourages people to pay traffickers to make the journey to the UK ?

That is practically the same. Same goalposts, in the same position, I am just placing the penalty sot point a bit closer, I think.

That he is or is not in a position of power, as in PM, but wait, he is an MP, a lawmaker, does not make any difference to the question. Because he manages to get that message plastered all over the news and social media... OPEN BORDERS AND FREE THINGS.

Do you think that message encourages people to try the crossing ?

A similar thing, I suppose, would be.... If I stood on the road opposite a Tesco, with a big sign and a megaphone yelling, FREE BREAD AT THAT TESO SHOP, while that shop did not have free bread, do you think anyone would say "oh", and cross over to try to free bread ?

You know exactly what I am asking. But you are avoiding giving an answer.

You don't believe words and context have power full stop? Quite a bit of this thread is about the right wing trying to occupy Cambridge University. Why would they do that then? You must be maintaining they feel passionate about divinity.

The Conservatives declared the donation.

According to the poster BrandiedAromatics

We don’t allow foreign donations

Harborne declares British residency to enable him to make political donations.

The Conservatives declared the donations, Farage did not.

Farage and his team were filmed allegedly planning ways to channel foreign donations through UK based relatives which would be in contravention of UK electoral laws.

That’s the difference.

Why do some people keep insisting that "Reform are top of the polls" like you have? Its absolutely not true, so is this genuine ignorance or deliberate spreading of misinformation 🤔

Yup. It was all over the Dover and Portsmouth threads. And they were corrected loads of times by other posters. But that is the "alternative facts" playbook. And when someone factchecks them, the factchecker is accused of being a " smug elite", or some other thing.

AND NOW, it turns out that reform have been caught commissioning dodgy polls... for their voters who don't believe in polls.

It's alternative facts all the way.

Farage is being investigated, but Reform remains top of the polls. A fact which likely irritates the other parties.

Also, don’t forget that Christopher Harbone has also made donations to the Conservative Party.

Labour is currently top of the polls. Get your facts right.

Does that mean that no politician should be investigated for rule breaking

Laws apply equally to everyone. Point was that parties seem to spend more time point scoring rather than explaining how they will tackle issues that affect people.

  • Almost 4 in 5 adults (78%) reported being most concerned about the spread of misinformation, disinformation, and “fake news”; this makes it the most commonly reported issue when thinking about future elections in the UK.

After watching the documentary Brexit-A very British civil war, this is believable. The US president at the time, Obama, was prompted by remain campaign to say the UK would be at the back of the queue for a trade deal with the US.

I don’t rate polls as reliable based on previous history, but some do. Recent polling shows Reform at the top of the pile. Is that due to the 78% now know that remain campaign was based on scaremongering, ie disinformation?

Goodness me. That's quite a deflection from what I said in my post. I did consider asking you something directly but I though my post laid out some pretty clear points, that you avoided. You went for the " but Obama" defense.

So question. Do you think Farage encourages or discourages boat migration when he says the UK has open borders, and that people arriving here get lots of free things, etc ?

On Polls. Yes, I know from other threads that you don't have much faith in polls. And frankly, now we know what we know about how Farage and Reform work to present "dodgy" polls that benefit them, and fund them in potentially illegal ways, I am not surprised.
