You are saying people should not protesst? A democratic right?

How Putin like

@BrandiedAromatics

Is he warning us what will happen to us if we have a different view to Reform UK?

email him and ask.

Voting is done by secret ballot. So, there is no way anyone can know how someone voted. Hence, nothing to be afraid of.

Whilst violence will not solve anything, there is always a risk a crowd can turn violent when protesters appear. So, rather than take a risk, why don’t they use their most powerful form of objection and don’t vote for those they disagree with?

BrandiedAromatics · 09/09/2026 12:33

when questioned about the attack Reform UK's economic spokesperson Robert Jenrick said: "Oh boohoo. Get a life. You take your chances if you go to a party conference and try to mess it up."

Is he warning us what will happen to us if we have a different view to Reform UK?

EEexpat · 09/09/2026 11:54

@RedTagAlan

You know, because they don't really want to admit to friends and family they voted Reform

How can it be known that people are afraid to admit which party they voted for?

More significantly, where is it stated that people have to reveal how and why they voted?

I thought freedom to choose who to vote for was called democracy.

That is pretty much what this thread is about. Being dishonest to the electorate.

This has happened throughout history. It might explain why the turnout in general elections has declined. Maybe it also explains why there is little trust in politicians.

Polls can’t be used to foretell the outcome of a general election as history has demonstrated. So, I don’t follow why people get so hung up over them.

If they are considered accurate, why bother with general elections?

As a second reply sorry. I would says polls would work very well for reform.

Say you have a number of swaying voters. Unsure if they should vote reform or not. You know, because they don't really want to admit to friends and family they voted Reform. Then they see a poll saying 40% of the people in their constituency plan to vote reform. Then they might say " oh that's ok then". They are, and so will I.

Because polls used as Reform used one, and planned to use again, can be a tool to "normalize" certain things.

That is pretty much what this thread is about. Being dishonest to the electorate.

Yes, and the unnecessary assault, by Reform conference attendees, exacerbated by the laughing of Farage, the 'jokes' of Anderson and comments of Jenrick. They don't like women, do they?

I'd say they absolutely despise women. We're living in scary times. Maybe I'm being hyperbolic, but very Handmaids Tale

You should have seen the justifications from many on MN, majority female posters I would assume.

Ok. Same difference maybe. Just corruption.

Yup. Misleading the public. It turns out polling companies have rules their governing body sets. And conflict of interest over funding is in those rules.

It's no problem if Whiskas pays a polling company to do a poll to prove their " 8 out of ten cat owners who expressed a preference said their cat prefers it" claim. But the poll company have to say who paid for it.

Who is hung up over polls ?

It is honesty I care about. And about people just doing the easiest fact checks before they make claims. And if they get caught out, I find a "hand up and a sorry", works better than more handwaving than at a human powered flight convention... being held next door to a squirrel sanctuary.

I don't think the poll company is accused of using dodgy numbers. The issue is that they allegedly hid who paid for it.

d) remembered the figures from the August. Wasn’t aware YouGov updates more frequently.

For information, I voted Labour in 2024 for the first time since 1997. Not because I thought they were the best, but to get the conservatives out.

Labour actually received fewer votes in 2024 than in 2019, but more than doubled the number of seats won. Further evidence that poll percentages can’t be used to foretell the outcome of a general election.

So you did not check before you made your claim. Gosh it took a lot to get that out.

Would it not just have been easier to say that when called out ? " Oops, my mistake sorry, I should have checked".

I mean it's not as if anything has happened recently that could have impacted the polls.

RedTagAlan · 09/09/2026 10:35

Daygloboo · 09/09/2026 10:14

Yeah, was it that one ? I remember watching some results show or other and the polls were just so wildly out that I resolved never to trust a poll again. Have I got this right.....was Reform recently engaging with some poll company that was putting it at the top through a corrupt masssaging of the figures ?

As you have stated in an earlier post, the YouGov poll in August have Reform a slight lead. Today, it shows both Labour and Reform on 23%. Poll-check shows Labour at 25.4% and Reform 22.7%

That polls are producing different numbers is further evidence that they can’t be considered accurate.

However, poll percentages don’t mean anything due to the UK electoral FPTP system. The 2024 general election was a good example. There was no correlation between the percentage of votes won and seats won.

Being a sleazy cunt never did Trump any harm.

Some say Trump was elected solely on the subject of immigration.

Immigration in the UK has declined to pre-Brexit levels, but still measured in 100s of thousands as opposed to the 10s of thousands promised by both Conservative and Labour governments for decades.

Why did you make the claim that the Youguv poll had Reform ahead ? That is what I asked.

And your answer might be a good insight for non Reform folk into how Reform works when it comes to facts and figures.

Did you make that claim -

a) without checking it was true

b) you knew it was wrong but thought nobody would check

c) wanted a good claim to make but did not check and did not care

d) An honest mistake guv, sorry

Or any other reason.

As pointed out by TalkinPeace, the only poll that counts is the one with a ballot box and is presented to all eligible voters. In the UK that’s about 48 million people. Polls incorrectly forecast the following general elections:

1992
2015
2017

Source is britpolls.co.uk

Reform know from their experience in the 2024 general election that percentages and seats are not connected. So, if they have been trying to fudge polls what was the point as polls are not binding anyway.

Quote " So, if they have been trying to fudge polls what was the point as polls are not binding anyway."

Who knows. I don't. Farage will, but he aint saying.

I mean why did you claim that a poll said Reform was ahead, when that is not what the poll said. Would you care to answer that? You know, instead of switching on your Star Trek level deflection shields.

So, why did you claim a poll said something it does not say ?

Let me get this right, you're going on about concerns about immigration, whilst currently being an immigrant yourself...
