@DuncinToffee beat us both!

A poster on a different thread alerted me, can't take the credit.

@DuncinToffee

UK definitions are:

peaceful means to be free of disturbance

disruption means disturbance or problems which interrupt an event.

So, a peaceful disruption does not seem possible. However, more significantly the woman has not come forward to make a complaint. Bit odd that.

Was it foreign funding that Farage received? I remember one poster saying that the donor, Christopher Harborne, had declared himself UK resident at the time of the donation. Maybe that makes no difference?

If Farage is found guilty of wrong doing, then he must face the consequences.

SmallDFartyCarNRG · 09/09/2026 15:14

Tim Montgomerie was discussing how he saw that Reform head office use every day people's donations to get business class flights and "entertain" people at various London clubs...
No surprises to most of us that there is a lack of financial oversight by this party.

RedTagAlan · 09/09/2026 15:12

Sorry. Edit to my above post re the Clacton poll. Yes, the poll looks totally fine and pukka, but what I forgot to mention, is that 37% was the best score Farage got. That score was for " Respondents likely to vote, weighted additionally by likelihood to vote(v1), with undecided and refused removed"

GB news were being cheeky when they said this "The new poll claims that if Nigel Farage was to stand in Clacton at the next election he would win 37 per cent of the vote, beating the incumbent by ten percentage points."

Because those undecided voters had been taken out. For respondents likely to vote, including undecided, Farage got 27%. They took the undecided out to get their 37%

I don't see that as a poll methodology thing. That is reporting.

I think one could argue if that is dishonest or not. I am meh. But GB news did misrepresent by omitting the BASE.

News just in

The Metropolitan Police is carrying out a criminal investigation into allegations Reform UK broke the law in relation to foreign funding, following a broadcast by Channel 4 News last week.

@DuncinToffee

I would say that trying to prevent someone having their say is more like disruption than peaceful.

Police are investigating, but from what I can find she has not come forward and made a complaint?

A peaceful disruption, heckling with words not violence.

It happens at every conference, it happens at political gatherings.

Farage was prepared.
Security already stepped in
Yet Reform members assaulted her.

You still seem to suggest she should have kept quiet and brought it on herself.

On polls. I was browsing GB news earlier. And GB news has a thing of having old stories in the side banner or under. This was there.

Nigel Farage would WIN key seat in general election as he admits he's 'seriously' considering standing - eye-opening new poll (gbnews.com)

And the story is about a poll in Clacton indicating he would win there... before he decided to pack his carpet bag and " move" there.

Looks to me like Farage is a fan of polls. Indeed, at the end of that article, Farage is quoted saying -

"I don’t suppose that is the only place that would produce that result and I have to make a huge decision about what I want to do."

"Do I want to be an influencer … or do I want to put my kit on again and get back on the pitch? I haven’t decided, but I have to say to you that this poll does make the balance of probabilities towards getting back on the pitch stronger."

Note the last bit - "....but I have to say to you that this poll does make the balance of probabilities towards getting back on the pitch stronger."

The Story is dated Jan 2024. The 5 mill was paid in April 2024. I wonder if that "gift" helped persuade him.

Now, an interesting thing is a company called Survation done that poll. But GB news does not link to it. More on that later.

But anyway. Farage likes polls. But the article does say this,

"A survey commissioned by Arron Banks, a ex-Ukip donor who also played a key role alongside Farage during the Brexit referendum, suggested that the GB News presenter would easily win in the constituency of Clacton in Essex."

Oh. So Banks paid for it. He must like polls too.

The GB news article also says "The new poll claims that if Nigel Farage was to stand in Clacton at the next election he would win 37 per cent of the vote, beating the incumbent by ten percentage points."

And in the interest of fairness, and to show my thinking here, although GB news did not link the poll. I found it anyway. And I downloaded it in excel format. and it is all totally pukka. Seems that way to me anyway. Of course, the download does not contain cell formula, but all looks totally fine. I am not a pollster, but there is nothing that jumps out as being off. But hey, Clacton did vote 73% leave.

So it is a fair bet the poll would say what it did. And if it did not, no matter, the person who paid for it (Banks), did not need to publish it.

Link to poll data download page.

@Ihateboris

So, what is the solution? Protests against immigration are not confined solely to the UK. They are happening in the EU too.

That wasn't the point of my post. I was merely pointing out that it's OK for protests against immigrants to cause disruption to the public, but it's not acceptable for people to vocalize their concerns about the provenance of £5m?

You said they shouldn't take the risk.

Misquote. What was said was:

So, rather than take a risk, why don’t they use their most powerful form of objection and don’t vote for those they disagree with?

Regards

Put on a balaclava and attack emergency workers, vehicles, houses, hotels and it becomes 'understandable'

Both Nigel Farage and Zia Yusef have expressed their disapproval of events in Dover and Portsmouth

@Ihateboris

But it's OK for Reform supporters to protest about immigrants

Yes. If done peacefully anyone can protest regardless of which party they support.

Right, I used 'should'instead of 'rather'

Voting only comes around every so many years, it would be advisable for people to choose to stay away from peaceful protest in case some pensioner with a stick takes offence?

Oh now come on. It's never done peacefully. And it's always done in a very intimidating manner, and always en masse

Saying people should stay quiet to avoid being assaulted is a dangerous course to take.

No such statement was made. Everyone is entitled to express an opinion. This is democracy. However, attempts to block people from having their say is not democratic I would say.

Remember that voting came about so differences of opinion were settled peacefully. Prior to that they were settled on the battlefield.

We are talking about peaceful protesters being assaulted. You said they shouldn't take the risk.

@BrandiedAromatics

Is he warning us what will happen to us if we have a different view to Reform UK?

email him and ask.

Voting is done by secret ballot. So, there is no way anyone can know how someone voted. Hence, nothing to be afraid of.

Whilst violence will not solve anything, there is always a risk a crowd can turn violent when protesters appear. So, rather than take a risk, why don’t they use their most powerful form of objection and don’t vote for those they disagree with?

I don't wish to have any contact with someone who says you take your chances if you express dissent with his views. As @RedTagAlan has said this thread has been about being dishonest to the electorate. Well, at least I can see what would happen if I stood up and said I didn't agree with Rob Jenrick. And boo hoo if I got beaten up.

Another theme for me in this thread has been these far-right politicians who aspire to an extreme form of authoritarianism, sometimes in the guise of harking back to an idealised Christian Europe perspective.

No. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.
