Immigration by small boats started because of Brexit. Farage actually created the problem when he was UKIP.

Conservatives allowed immigration to hit record levels and then used hotels to house them - to use immigration as a reason they failed to manage the countries economy.

Labour have reduced both legal and small boat immigration but people don’t want to listen.

If people wanted illegal immigration stopped, why are they focussing on boats (a tiny percentage of immigrants - most of whom will be granted asylum after a rigorous process) and not on the real cause of the “illegal” numbers which are in visa overstays? Legal immigration is strictly controlled, what more do you want than our system has?

Immigration has consistently been shown to be a net benefit to the economy. Do you really want less immigration just so our country has fewer non white people?

And yet immigration soared under Boris who was the one who got Brexit done.

One Leave voter who was extremely keen on immigration.

Personally I think the major parties have treated the people of Clacton with contempt due to shameful cowardice.

Why did Labour/Conservatives not stand and run a great campaign offering locals real choice? Fear of the optics of loosing?

So the people of Clactons MP and their right to political choice was less important to the government and shadow than the optics of loss. I wish Burnham would take note of this. Starmer didn’t, and nor did the Tories before him.

The fact is, a vast number of voters just want immigration to stop. Immigration is seen by many as the cause of all our problems - the state of the NHS, the pressure on housing, overcrowded schools, overflowing prisons, cost of living etc.

It doesn’t matter if you agree with this assessment or not. It’s what a lot of people think. And these people believe that Farage and Reform are the only party that will make it harder for non-UK nationals to come into the UK, and will “stop the boats”.

We are sleep-walking into a Reform government. And if Labour don’t address this issue, Farage will be at Number 10 after the next election, which will be utterly catastrophic.

They have been constantly failed by the mainstream parties in the area for decades. The proof is easy to see if they hadn't been failed Clacton would be a nice seaside resort, not a shithole.

It would be good if the mainstream parties could get through to the electorate that immigration is not actually the worst problem facing the UK. Yes, it's a problem that needs to be fixed, but so are the NHS, social care, defence, the criminal justice system, the environment, cost of living and housing.
