We had very high asylum claims pre Brexit. And EU countries are struggling with the same issue regardless of no Brexit.

Well that is a problem.

Because they blindly believe what Farage and Reform tell them.

But the truth differs.

Immigration by small boats started because of Brexit. Farage actually created the problem when he was UKIP.

Conservatives allowed immigration to hit record levels and then used hotels to house them - to use immigration as a reason they failed to manage the countries economy.

Labour have reduced both legal and small boat immigration but people don’t want to listen.

Well they do. But they listen rather than research. So they what the wrong “truth”.

Voting and recent events have CLEARLY shown that a great many, a majority of British people want illegal immigration stopped and legal immigration more strictly controlled.

Sure. So do politicians of parties other than Reform. Five Mill Farage isn't exactly standing against a bunch of politicians who want more illegal immigration and to encourage the boats.

The rise of Reform has to do with the populist bug which the whole world has caught. In part, from constant social media consumption. It’s a bigger problem the world over.

It is not because people don’t like being told they’re stupid.

Like I said I’m disgusted and disappointed.

speaking about money - i don't see anyone criticising Andy Burnham for wasting money on a by election so he could become PM. I don't see anyone criticising him for planning nearly a year ahead to get No. 10 north bought and ready...

But Farage (and Reform) has no viable plan to halt illegal immigration (which only rocketed after the Brexit he championed).
The Clacton voters need to give their heads a wobble.

Telling people that immigration is benefiting their country.
Telling people they’re racist, and all they care about is the colour of immigrants’ skin.

What you are forgetting is that most people don’t read about politics, they don’t study the economics of a country, they don’t know the details of, for example, visa overstays. They have busy lives and they react to what the see in front of them.

And what they see is images of French coastguards waving off boats full of young men who then land on UK shores. They see asylum hotels, with scary-looking men hanging around outside. They see the hospital appointment they’re waiting literally years for. They see the 40 kids in their child’s class at school. They see the Big Issue sellers who are never British. They see their high street taken over by nail bars, vape shops and “Turkish” barbers.

And rightly or wrongly, they blame immigration, and they want to vote for someone who they think will change it. And that’s Farage.

If you want to challenge people’s misunderstandings, you have to try and see the world through their eyes.

The cowardice is all on Farage.

He wasted money and time on a by election he didn't need to call.

An absent MP who can't even be bothered to be at the count.

At least the Standards investigation can now continue.

All those things are a result of the things Reform support...government retreat, low cost, low regulation etc...

Could not agree more myself! No one is allowed an opinion these days without arguments and insults. I'm very centre these days. More leaning left but I can see points from both sides. Extremes of anything is never good

I’m not entirely sure what your point is but yes, I think the massive surge of non-EU immigration post-Brexit is responsible for an increase in people thinking immigration is much too high.

I mean, it makes sense doesn’t it? Immigration becoming much too high being linked to people starting to think it’s much too high?

My politics sit left of centre but I can clearly see the harm being done by this incessant scolding of people who have a different view.

Everyone needs to listen.

People voting for Farage have as much right to a vote and an opinion as anyone else and if this scolding by people who see themselves as "betters" and Remain/Restore as "a basket of deplorables" need to take a long hard look at themselves and their own bigotries.

Maybe they wanted the investigation to go ahead. But yes very disappointing. He probably brought his votes.

I do not think Farage is the answer, I think Farage thrives on division and hatred and uses public anger as a cover to shovel money into his pockets. But unless everyone listens, things will get worse. We need to talk, not scold and look down on people who are in the most part, lovely hard working people!

Is that why remain voters have swung ten points to much too high?

While the overall number of Remain voters who think immigration has been too high is largely unchanged from 2016, when it was 51%, there has been a shift within this group, with Remain voters now ten points more likely to lean towards saying it has been “much too high”.

I suspect it's the immigrants rather than the political party that has led to the shift don't you? Or are remain voters changing their mind because of who was in charge of the Boris wave? The left parties are the ones objecting to any changes to the long term financial implications the boriswavers will have on the economy. So in "pocket" terms a minority of remain voters are prioritising boriswavers "pockets".

In pocket wars terms, who wins? The minority wanting this immigrant surge to have their pockets filled or the majority that want to keep their own pounds for their own pockets?
