I take it you haven’t seen them partying in Kharkov which is only around 19 miles away from the frontline? If they can socialise they can vote.

Have you not seen Russia targetting civilian structures such as shopping centres?

Do you think it would be safe to hold elections and large groups of people gathering?

Newbutoldfather · 25/08/2026 14:57

@SadiraOfTyr ,

So, they offered to assist with an impossible election?

That is an interesting take.

There is literally nothing in that article to support your supposition that "the EU think (sic) it is possible."

"This is not for us to decide. There is a constitutional framework, and Ukraine must decide for itself," the European Commission spokesperson said, commenting on former Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov's call for elections to be held in Ukraine.

Yes there is.

the bloc is prepared to provide the necessary support during the electoral process and help ensure it meets democratic standards

Newbutoldfather · 25/08/2026 15:46

‘It's very easy to shout 'election now', even when you are fully aware it isn't and know the law.’

And it’s very easy to make a glib and dismissive comment.

Fedorov isn’t that kind of guy. He did amazingly well for Ukraine both in digital trans and defence. And he discovered significant corruption in military procurement. He is a technocrat who, many would claim, hugely enhanced Ukraine’s ability to win the war.

i don’t see him randomly calling for an impossible election .

Newbutoldfather · 25/08/2026 15:24

@TopPocketFind ,

And you think that law is immutable?

Do you think Fedorov is an absolute moron who doesn’t know the law within his own country?

@SadiraOfTyr ,

‘Out of interest, why do you care that UA has suspended elections? We have other strategic military allies that have never had an election - KSA, UAE, and yet it is always UA that is called out - funny that...’

I don’t think we give huge military aid to any of those other allies.

And there are serious questions of corruption around Zelensky that should be addressed. These are being asked internally as well as externally.

And no, I am not a Russian stooge. Not everyone who asks questions of Ukraine ‘supports’ Russia, any more than everyone who asks questions of Israel (another ally) is an antisemite.

Our aid to Ukraine and whether they are fighting a war ‘for us’ or for themselves is a perfectly legitimate discussion topic.

Did you look up why Ukraine can't legally hold elections?

He and his family and fiends have benefited hugely financially.

That you doing Putin's bidding again lavrov?

@SadiraOfTyr ,

That is an interesting take.

They have offered to assist if and when Ukraine calls an election. Ukraine cannot currently call an election as it is not constitutionally able to do so while martial law is in effect. Even if it were, with 3.5M people currently unable to vote due to being in occupied territory, the legitimacy of the results would be called into question.

It's not hard to understand.

@SadiraOfTyr ,

‘how do you suggest they hold elections when 20% of the country is occupied by Russian forces?’

As best they can!

What is the alternative if the war drags on for decades? Does Zelensky become king?

Be more specific about how 'as best they can' would work.

Where exactly was this poll done? Never seen it anywhere and no one asked me as I’d have said no it bloody isn’t!

That isn't how polls work that no one asked you so they don't count 🙄

It’s perfectly possible for Zelensky to be both a war hero and corrupt.

He was definitely very brave to stay and fight at the beginning of the war, when he could have been captured and tortured/killed within a few days.

However, some of the internal things going on in Ukraine, including a lack of elections, definitely raise eyebrows.

However, where I really take issue is with the narrative that Ukraine/Zelensky is somehow fighting for us. Putin’s sole interest in any country beyond the old Warsaw pact area is due to the fact of support for Ukraine.

It is a total fantasy that he would roll his tanks across Germany as in some Cold War army exercise. He lacks the power and failed to even manage his supply lines into Ukraine. He wouldn’t even take on Poland. Maybe, and it is a big maybe, he would get involved in the Baltics and they are NATO members, but I personally think he would love to take eastern Ukraine and declare victory.

That might be morally unacceptable to some, but Zelensky is fighting for Ukraine, not Europe.

Maybe stop parrotting Putin and Trump and read up why it is illegal to hold presidential and parliamentary elections in Ukraine

Hint, martial law.

Probably because we are not bankrolling Russia as we are Ukraine, our country isn’t exactly doing great at the moment in case you haven’t noticed. I’m fed up with helping the rest of the world whilst our own people are struggling here and if that makes me a creep or Russian bot I’m fine with it 👍🏼

We’re not ‘bankrolling’ UA - we’re providing military aid to an ally in defence of a common enemy. Just as the US did for us. And we’re doing it because if we don’t the alternative is a lot worse.

Yoy Can’t hold elections during an active war when your country is occupied. The French didn’t, the Poles didn’t, the British didn’t (despite the UK not even being occupied). Grow up and realise you are just spouting Kremlin propaganda.

Russia is already attacking NATO countries, Putin is just clever enough not to do it with bombs.

Okay. A conventional war would be catastrophic. Hybrid warfare is not. You think we’re not doing the same? We are.

Funny how creeps like you are always banging on about fair elections in UA but never start demanding them in Russia.

Can you explain how you can hold an election when 20% of your country is occupied by a brutal enemy and 3.5M of your citizens are under a fascist boot?

Joe Slovo? Beyers Naudé? Many white South Africans opposed the apartheid regime and saw it for the deeply unjust ideology it was.

I know.........
