John Healey, who quit as Keir Starmer's defence secretary last month, has been pictured walking up Downing Street - is he about to be reinstated as Defence Secretary, I wonder.

Ed Miliband and Shabana Mahmood also photographed walking up Downing Street together - but we still don't which positions they will be given in Cabinet.

Loathe her? Surely they voted her in….

With a majority of over 12000 too.

Is Reeves likely to quit as an MP too? She leads my brother’s constituency and they loathe her up there - she is in fact banned from several bars, restaurants and shops!

On behalf of pensioners everywhere, she well and truly deserves it. Vile woman. Hope she loses her seat if she tries to run again.

A circuit breaker that puts someone with a questionable history with their own housing back in the housing job...

"I am going to do things differently", of course you are🙄

Btw, has anyone seen my phone?

The thing is, no-one actually cares - this will be a tiny pointillist dot in the big picture for everyone except shit-stirrers and the Mail.

As an individual I'm incredibly impressed by the combo of excellent communication skills - a vision, if you want to call it that - plus appointments into key roles that signal solidity, and the 'keeping your successors and enemies onside' dance that is key to him not having to call an election and the success of the whole project. First time I've felt hopeful for a long time - and importantly, that's regardless of the fact that I think he's failing to address some of our key challenges (AI, re-industrialisation of what exactly).

I speak as someone who fundamentally believes that we're fucked, and that Corbyn and his brand of left-liberalism is a beard for global capitalism which will never stop predating, and that the only real solution is a revolution ;-) but also as a realist whose other foot dances the centrist dance.... Yes, it's hard being me.

At this stage, I’m assuming the people still in there are just having a bit of a party.

I am curious as to what she was offered ... surely they knew she would not accept whatever it was and planned as such?

Rumour is she was offered defense, knowing she would refuse as she’s the one who took the money from it,

Maybe she couldn't face serving under Burnham with the way he came in. She is very loyal to Starmer.

Some are refusing cabinet jobs - not a great start.

Apart from Rachel Reeves, who else has?

Are you there? How do you know?

Or are you just stirring?

Why didn’t Rachel Reeves accept a cabinet job?

She’ll never live her past down!

That's what happens when questions have been raised about how you bought your council property and your "not a second home". Everyone knows that Hove is the most convenient town for accessing Westminster...

It's taking ages, I'm sure usually, they go in then come out within 10 minutes or so, some haven't been seen for hours.

It seems bizarre - perhaps not a good sign?

Araminta1003 · 20/07/2026 21:20

Maybe they are discussing strategy for the various roles. Who refuses cabinet roles? Don’t believe it! That is you and yours set for parties and invites for life.

Lucy Powell has education apparently.

Running No 10 in the north presumably?

She’ll probably want him to move it to Hove!

cornishatheart · 20/07/2026 21:36

Have they filled the welfare post yet? Could that be one for Wes Streeting?

Or does that come under work and pensions?

Depends if they are big demotions and he intends them to turn it down? I don't know if he really wanted Reeves in his cabinet, for example.

Unprecedented according to the reporting I'm watching. Normally done in 2 hours. On more than 5 hours so far.
