Unless, as I suggested before, people on the 'progressive left' want us to think it's an inside Reform job in the vein of 'The American government blew up the twin towers themselves as justification to start a war. in the middle east.'

But then plenty of those types think the Trump assassination attempt was staged and he had an exploding bag of blood strapped to his ear which he managed to press the button on at the exact second a shot was fired, and then some innocent boy who was a trans ally agreed to wait on a roof then be shot dead by members of the Trump's security forces, to help out the Trump plan.

I mean, really.....

Exactly. What are the people fixating on the time saying? Surely if it was some bizarre fit up the police would have 1. chosen one of the numerous new age travellers/ER types who fill the West Country and 2. tampered with the time on the CCTV footage? I'm not sure what people are saying when she was murdered in Haytor and the murder weapon was found at his house with her DNA on it! Or is the CPS and forensics in on this too?

Exactly. If the police are prepared to go as far as fitting up and innocent man in such a high profile case then it would certainly not be beyond their abilities to tamper with the 'evidence' to make it fit. Are people really saying that the police are clever, cunning and corrupt enough to do that but too dim to get their ducks in a row on the most fundamental details? They are hardly going to take a case to court on the basis of a car journey that google maps says is virtually impossible in the timeline. And yet people keep insisting this is the case.

Also since it was revealed that the weapon was a hammer, I've seen lots of 'oh, so not a wooden stick/baton after all then?' As if those witness reports were outright lies. Is there really not a scenario in which they can imagine that a hammer, especially when held by the business end, could look very much like the 12 inch wooden pole or stick is was described as, from CCTV?? Are these people thick or just wilfully obtuse?

I don't understand what is driving this reluctance to believe the police have a credible suspect in custody, from activists on the further side of the right. I mean if it turns out Kerry held far left wing ideologies and we are told his motive was a hatred of Reform then that plays into the hands of the right quite nicely anyway, so why try to suggest it was someone/something else entirely?

I can see why people on the more 'progressive' side of the left might be highly motivated to steer people away from that idea though, and to suggest that some 'far right terrorist' did it.

But given the target was big in Reform and big on Brexit and big on traditional, conservative Christian values, that makes no sense at all.

I’m sure I read that the suspect’s siblings are all older than him whereas the first man arrested was 26 - ie two years younger. Also, I read that the first man arrested was a delivery driver/courier, which would fit with the reports of the van spotted near her house.

Presumably the suspect was identified once police went through the camera footage and used ANPR to trace the red Corsa.

Oh fair enough, presumably the car movements were a different line of inquiry. There's certainly a lot to look at. I hope the counter terrorism aspect bears fruit, it would be awful to think there were more like him out there.

Gymnopedie · 22/07/2026 13:23

Gengha · 22/07/2026 11:14

I’m kind of thinking the same. That he might plead guilty so there will be no trial and there will never be any more information as to why.

Even if he pleads guilty it will still be reported. There will be statements from the police setting out their evidence.

ForeverNowWithin · 22/07/2026 13:15

KerryWeaversSpecs · 21/07/2026 22:53

I don't think the people casting doubt on the journey time etc. are on the left tbh. I certainly don't think @Parsley4321 is and I am sure she will confirm this!

So what is the basis of the conspiracy theory then? There clearly is one but it's all hints and heavily coded comments about why nothing is making sense (and I agree they may have a point) but no actual accusations of what they think is really going on.

If they want to say that the police are suppressing information about it really being a muslim terror related incident or a recent black 'boat' migrant or whatever, then why not just say it? They are usually quick enough to point the finger very specifically, based on hearsay and witness evidence from the local area, whether it ends up being right or wrong. So why so coy where this is concerned? And do they honestly think they'd go as far as to arrest and charge some innocent sad sack with no friends just to throw everyone off the scent of the real murderer so we don't have a mutiny on our hands?

It has been an eye opener to see how people seize on one detail and run away with it...like the Ring doorbell and comparing travel times. Because the gardener was asked to do a welfare check I've seen a few people confusing the gardener with the first person to be arrested, they can't get past it being two different people. With such a high proportion of the population having very poor comprehension skills I suppose that contributes to them reading irrelevent stuff on the internet and making 2 + 2 = 5.

My own query relates to who is the registered keeper of the car. Could it actually be Kerry's brother? I've read that his brother relocated from Rotherham to the West Country a few years ago. Maybe he left the car behind but updated his own address? DVLA would then send the police to him when the number was checked, and he would (if so) be a suspect.

I’m sure I read that the suspect’s siblings are all older than him whereas the first man arrested was 26 - ie two years younger. Also, I read that the first man arrested was a delivery driver/courier, which would fit with the reports of the van spotted near her house.

Brightlittlecanary · 22/07/2026 12:59

I said up thread I thought maybe the guy arrested looked like the culprit, but it makes more sense it took time to access the video footage, and as soon as they did they released him and knew who to go for.

it is a crime that keeps crossing my mind, as it is so awful and so utterly bizzare, that a 28 year old man would get in his car, with a hammer in his pocket, drive 4 and a half hours down to Anne Widdecombes house, walk through the door and kill her in a brutal frenzied attack in two mins and then drive home. It is evil, and utterly baffling. To actually do that is shocking. On all fronts.

she was a 78 year old, frail, defenseless old woman, sitting eating her lunch with her door unlocked,

I doubt he can do anything but plead guilty, they have the video footage and as the camera was in the hall they will have his face clearly visible as he exited, as well as footage of the whole attack. I understand they also have his car and number plate and him getting out on ring footage. He’s clearly as thick as mince. The murder weapon was in his bin, photos of the bank cards he stole on her phone.

I have family who are senior officers and there will be officers who have to go through that footage frame by frame and detail it. I feel sorry for them too.

Laughingravy · 22/07/2026 12:47

I think it's far too easy to get lost in being suspicious about the timings of the accused's journey as presented so far. He wasn't on a schedule but a mission. Beyond it being impossible to have done the journeys in the time scale suggested there's no story here beyond him sadly succeeding.

TemporarilyCantDoMyself · 22/07/2026 06:38

Evidence: on the one hand: CCTV, DNA, murder weapon, Google maps estimated drive time, etc etc.
On the other hand: person who can't do the drive in the required time.
Conclusion: person must be a shit driver.

Honestly you are just making yourself look so foolish. Why do you think you can convince people you're right with all the evidence pointing to the police overwhelmingly having the right man? We don't even know you! You could be anyone with any agenda! Indeed you probably are. Why on earth do you think anyone thinks you're worth taking seriously? Just bloody stop it.

Don’t tell other posters to ‘bloody stop
it’! Who made you the thread police? I don’t necessarily agree with the poster, but everyone’s entitled to give an opinion on here. I seem to remember a pile on about the car smashing through a school fence killing 2 pupils in Wimbledon, when some posters (and indeed witnesses) suggested that there was more to it than the police seemed to be accepting. Look what eventually happened there - there was indeed a lot more to it, and there may or may not be in this case. Don’t try to censor other people.

Choux · 22/07/2026 11:23

The 26 year old could have been a delivery driver or even a postman spotted on the cctv on Weds afternoon or even Thursday. Because until the post mortem they would not have been sure exactly when she died.

If they went back through the cctv from the time she was found they might have found someone else visited the property to deliver something without realising she was dead in the kitchen.

LuckyHazelFox · 22/07/2026 11:22

Gengha · 22/07/2026 11:15

I wonder if the 26 year old was the gardener, if he found her he might have touched her/ended up with blood on him which might have heightened suspicion.

Sounds plausible.

The trial won't take place until next June. So awful for Ann's family being in limbo. When he enters his plea, with all the evidence we have heard about, it would surprising if he pleads not guilty. Who knows. He's got a nice long period of incarceration until then.

I agree with a pp that the car was probably registered to his brother and that’s the first man they arrested, as apparently the number plate of the car on Ann’s drive was clearly visible on the cctv.

It’s horrendous to think that such evil people live amongst us. It’s enough to drive anyone from public life.

According to a comment by the uncle in the Daily Mail story this Joshua character was the youngest sibling. The 26 year old couldn't be his brother if this is true. This doesn't mean the car didn't belong to one of his brothers, however.

Same. After the 1st guy was released, they almost immediately said they knew who they were looking for.

That makes sense.

Shame they can't catch these people BEFORE they act.

They catch a lot of people before they act, to be fair.

Eh? The FACTS say it was evidently feasible - what's Mystic Meg got to do with it?? And why YAWN? You're not happy that facts show who did this? You'd rather that it was all a mystery?

@prh47bridge have you been on the M5 lately? Facebook pages for area round Bristol/Somerset have comments about saying it would be easier to say when it is open rather than closed as there seem to be daily incidents that lead to closures and huge tailbacks which can delay your journey for hours.

Yes, I have. Those comments are clearly exaggerations. Yes, it is sometimes bad, but it is not always like that. I generally lose some time around there compared with going at 70mph all the way, but not several hours.
