Lest we forget that this man consistently lies and claims he’s the most attacked politician in the country, at the time he made those claims two MPs had been murdered in the line of duty.

He is not entitled to any more security than anyone else.

It’s most likely a bit of both.

Perhaps someone who knew her (neighbour or worked for her), had a mate and said that she lives there but she’s not home during the day etc and they thought it was be easily money.

Why would they assist in the arrest and then not assist in the investigation, even in a low-key supporting role, until all motives are completely ruled out? Why bother involving them at all if they are not allocated any follow-up work whatsoever?

Forgive me for saying this, but it has crossed my mind that it would be awful if the perpetrator was someone she knew or was related to, so in a way a random act of violence by an opportunist whilst awful of course, might be a less shocking outcome.

And I've wondered why her, and why her house? There are other remote dwellings around that secluded area that may have been accessible to a burglar/opportunist. But who knows. Such a sad outcome for a feisty lady. RIP

You think pepper spray makes you safer. A scenario where you are going about your day, cleaning and gardening and you disturb an intruder, what are the chances you have this weapon on your person or close by....if say slim.

People seem to think weapons make you safer, statistics say the opposite. America is a very good example of this. You could allow women to carry pepper spray but going on the problems we have in our city centres on Friday and Saturday night, I'm not sure the police would welcome it. Then consider that most rapes and murders are done by people they know....it's rarely a stranger.

You have to change at Taunton or Plymouth and it takes 12 hours.

I understand that there was a car on her drive and the local garage owner noticed the car in a lay-by which he reported to police afterwards.

I don’t think your average burglar parks in someone’s drive. Or if they do they’ll have made sure the owner is away/there are no dogs/alarm systems and they’ll have false plates.

Burglars are generally either opportunists on foot or are targeting a property known to have high-value items there - not elderly people with a cabinet of Royal Doulton figurines.

I can see why they’d choose Ann because she’s an easy target and much easier to hurt/scare/kill than the usual middle aged man.

But it sounds like they’ve ruled out it being political or terrorism.

He could have been local and then ran away to Yorkshire.
Or drove there and back.

They’re saying it’s likely not political or terrorism so it could be someone who knew her (perhaps who worked for her or a robbery gone wrong) or someone who had an obsession with her.

I am wondering if it was a robbery gone wrong because it was in the middle of the day and perhaps they didn’t think she’d be home.

He could have been let out of prison, desperate for money and thought they’d quickly grab a few bits of jewellery and then go home back to Yorkshire or wherever.

But there was also a man who was obsessed with a TV presenter (her name has slipped my mind) and he was obsessed with her so much that he had made plans to kidnap, rape and kill her.
So it could have been an obsessed fan.

I am just waiting for someone to come along with a batshit conspiracy theory that somehow the tragic murder of a 78 year old woman was somehow organised by Farage / Reform just in order to justify his £5 million for "security ".

That doesn't really explain why Counter Terrorism Policing North East are involved. That would suggest the police in Sheffield are useless. Alternatively they haven't completely ruled out a political/terrorist motive yet and are covering all bases just in case.

I doubt it. That's a separate thing altogether.
