I didn’t vote Labour in the last election, but I want Kier Starmer to stay. I even contacted my local (Labour) MP to say as much when the whole Wes Streeting thing blew up a few weeks ago.
I agree with the majority on this thread. We need stability. This is not the time for egotistical career moves.

Reeves didn't 'finesse' her CV - she lied. She was woefully out of her depth as chancellor and should have been fired long ago.

Id want keir starmer to stay. I don't want more personality politics. I've not heard anything from Andy Burnham about what he'd do differently - he doesn't have a vision - other than not be KS. I don't think he's got a grasp on how difficult everything is right now. I worry about his fiscal policies and international relations.

I don't think he's a grown up. Being a regional mayor isn't the same as leading a country.

I'm also frustrated. Party fractions and factions will mean Farage will win.

Middle of the road is what the country needs. And we should stick with KS.

I've watched GB "News" since before he was elected. They hate Labour so much they'd rather see the UK burn 🔥 than make any progress under a Labour government. Doesn't matter who's in charge of it.

Burnham is too left wing to be elected in this country. Starmer was elected on a centrist position. Changing tack midway through is anti democratic and labour will pay for it. And we’ll end up with Nigel. So.. Irresponsible

I would categorise myself as being reasonably left wing, and in an ideal world I do like Burnham and what he suggests.

Having said that, this country needs some stability. We had duck duck prime minister towards the end of the Tory’s era and it was chaos. No one knew if they were coming or going and everyone wanted to do something different to show they were a good change. It was ridiculous and it brought massive instability to the country (hello liz truss)

Im not Starmer’s biggest fan, but he has kept us well out of international conflicts that we definitely do not want to be involved with, all whilst keeping Trump from having a hissy fit about us. He’s also reasonably kept to their manifesto with things like the Renters Rights Act. I do think his problem is largely that you can’t please everyone. I think Labour need to pick, are we going further right with this tough immigration stance? Or are we going further left with these generous welfare promises? As it stands they’re just pissing off both sides. I don’t think it works, but for what it’s worth I don’t think that is personally down to Starmer either.

Exactly this and always they’ve fallen for it hook, line and sinker… Starmer is very decent and definitely the best we have on offer as a country… but ‘they’ will read and believe the propaganda!

The only point I would change is that there are solutions to fix the problem namely cut Government spending and increase taxation and reduce national debt, except no one is going to vote for a candidate with those policies, so that they will forever remain a candidate and never a politician and so never have the chance to implement them.

This nonsense is just going to go on and on and the country will continue to stagnate as there's too much focus on the politics and not doing the actual job of government. In fact, I will go as far as to say that this country is at the moment at least ungovernable

No government can combat the challenges that the UK is facing. It’s not possible. Any government will either be widely unpopular from the get go or fall into widely unpopular within 6-12 months. The electorate need to stop chasing the shiny next thing that will apparently ‘solve all our problems’, because it isn’t going to happen.

No. The last 10 years have been absolutely ridiculous with the number of PMs & so much damage has been done. We need stability. The prospect of Andy Burham parachuting in as PM is putting me off voting Labour ever again.

Tbh, the media has a lot to answer for. The anti-Starmer stuff started straight after the election.

As others have said - this thread is really good! It makes me feel that it's not me that's off in their thinking. It is good to have a PM with a good brain, a decent, thoughtful man - Starmer has made mistakes but there are already results. And, yes internationally it has been good to be represented by an eminent lawyer - I am thinking of him going around Bucha, in Ukraine, where there were horrific war crimes.
