What if Burnham doesn’t get voted in as an MP and Reform win the seat? If I was in that area I wouldn’t be voting Labour in after today’s headlines. Maybe that’s their plan!

Loving the fantasy cabinet. No way in a million years will there be a coalition. Badenoch has said this week in The Spectator

Badenoch says the Tories could win and claims there is a ‘high chance’ she will become prime minister. But asked explicitly whether she would be prepared to put Farage into No. 10 if he fell short of a majority, she made it clear the answer is likely yes, as long as he pursues conservative policies: ‘This country cannot have another left-wing government. This is the most left-wing parliament we have ever had.’

I would not have had enough money to put down a deposit on my tiny flat had I not worked overseas and put money into a pension for 18 months. It was only $4,500. That money (that I couldn't have saved in the UK) changed everything.

The only ones I would welcome back are the ones the PLP dislikes most. I'd keep Shabana Mahmood. Tough, and ready to be very unpopular. Perfect Home Secretary. SKS as Foreign Secretary. No nomination for Chancellor as there's no decent candidate. PM... Kemi? A coalition. I think circumstances justify it.

I'm with you on this. I'd also like Rishi back, as Chancellor. Far from perfect, but so much better than the current lot.

ETA: Andy will remove Shabana. Angela is campaigning against Shabana's ILR changes.

It was the same for me. I was over 30 before I could contribute to a pension. I bought extra years when I could afford it and I’m very glad now that I could afford to do it.

My experience mirrors yours. I was also in my thirties when I joined a workplace pension. First time any workplace offered me one. I couldn’t afford to make additional contributions (dare I say because my mortgage interest rate was so high which makes people roll their eyes!). I think perhaps professional women may have been offered to join more frequently, but as I say, I just did a job.

If Burnham gets in he is going to be awful. Bowing to the unions. The vote between Reform and Restore is splitting otherwise I think Reform would win.

Look, it really doesn't matter who will replace her. Labour will not produce a competent Chancellor.

Andy will become PM, he will appoint someone, doesn't matter, they will raise taxes again, much higher, and borrow more, much more. Gilts will rise again, UK interest will spike, it's 111bn now, will be whatever. Investors and wealthy will be spooked and even more will leave, productive population will retire/reduce hours means total tax take will reduce in real terms. The next government will be far right.

I’m not disagreeing that it wasn’t available to some, but it certainly was not to me and many others. I just had a run of the mill secretarial job. There was no company scheme I could join. I worked there 10 years. Lots of lost years.
