To be fair lots of Reform councils fucking up now might just mean their popularity wanes fast before the next general election. “Vote Reform, get chaos” has quite a ring to it.

I believe that the right wing press want support for Farage not only because their owners align with his views (especially because they hope he will enrich them via tax cuts which will be at the expense of public services), but because they can see the stories down the line that they can report on and it will increase sales/drive people to read them online and increase ad revenue. A rise in Reform support and/or victory in any capacity, including scandals once in power, will generate money. So why would they do anything now that might prevent that?

As for Reform supporters, some love the fact that he is a grifter but most don’t care. They are the type to say “all politicians are the same” when in fact, they are very much not. I know they hate being called stupid and there is some suggestion that it makes them dig their heels in and complain that those of us who actually pay attention, and want governments that are (mostly) filled with well meaning and moral people and have some idea of how to run a country, think we are superior. But you know what, they claim to want plain speaking, so let’s be plain - they are stupid and short-sighted and blinded by hatred (see Brexit) and I am bored of pretending otherwise.

What do you think that crypto billionaire might want in exchange for a lot of money? I'll help you... He wants preferential treatment. He doesn't want to pay tax. He wants his business to be involved in government, if Reform eventually get in. He wants any dodgy stuff he's doing in business ignored. He's playing a long game, because he knows the investment is worth it. Rich people do not just give money away, they expect something in return. And that affects us all, because it takes tax away from the Treasury, it makes infrastructure unsafe, and it means someone who - heaven forbid - could be PM some day, is completely corruptible.

Something not directly affecting you is not the end of the story. Use your brain, for goodness sake.

It's the same thing as Trump voters dismissing his corruption. Either they don't believe it, or they think all politicians are corrupt so it doesn't matter anyway.

I think it's a bit like all the stuff that has come out about Trump over the years. It doesn't seem to even put a dent in his support because the shittiness is already priced in. Reform voters do probably know that Farage is dodgy as fuck, but they don't care because their hatred of foreigners is stronger than any concerns that they might have about his integrity. So they just turn a blind eye and tell themselves that all politicians are corrupt anyway.

Especially if that envelope is stuffed full of used £10 notes 😂
