The standards for being in public office in this country are shockingly low. Any old toerag can stand for election and as long as they talk the talk their name goes on the ballot paper. No checks, nothing.
I think re NFs 5mill, that the people who like him will turn a blind eye or defend it because they just don't care how he gets power, they want him in. They don't consider how that power will affect them as they don't think they'll ever be the target of their policies. As long as the people they resent/ blame/ hate are the target at the point of voting they'll put their cross in his box. I mean, the local elections were voted on, certainly where I live, mainly national issues, and we were an area that had great local councillors for local issues. I dread to think how things will pan out locally now, I really do.

I care how much he gets, from who and I want to know the reason.
For someone who is so patriotic and wants foreigners out, he has lots of foreign connections. Foreigner funders who do not live in UK. Why? Who are these people? What do they want in return?
Surely these guys are not worried about long GP waiting lists, NHS waiting lists, dentists waiting lists. Because they do not live here.......

Ocourse at the time of the gift, Farage wasn't an MP so why would the state provide for his security?

He only decided to stand as MP after the gift.

That's a very low bar you have for people in public office.

Reform have an appalling track in delivering yet it hasn’t stopped anyone voting for them.

It will ALWAYS be someone else’s fault. Too many of the nasty immigrants in the area or if that fails, blame Keir Starmer or the Tories.

As a British citizen who has lived in Thailand for the past couple of decades, we can only assume him to have severe and profound concerns about immigration rates in the UK, to the point where he is willing to bankroll a political party to do something about it.

Mr Mega-Donor is based in Thailand.

He is the largest shareholder in a company whose product is a particular cryptocurrency - lets call is Wether.

Wether is not widely used in the UK - but is used by people in Russia to evade sanctions and fund its military.

Wether is increasingly focusing its business in Russia, and has recently applied for a trademark there.

A CGT cut does not have any obvious benefit to Mr Mega-Donor, because neither he nor Wether are UK based.

A CGT cut does benefit UK based persons - say, Mr F, who might now have, or being intending to make, cryptocurrency.

We know that Russia has form when it comes to "exchange of money for favour" with persons (at least, a person) involved in a certain political party.

Mr F seems relatively fond of Russia, in terms of public statements, too.

I know! I don’t get it at all. Is it about not understanding the system, what councils do, who are employees, who are councillors, the democratic system, overview and scrutiny, public involvement…etc?

I see the Reform leader of a local council boasting on TV about his promise to cut ‘millions…no billions of spending by the council’. REALLY?
A quick google of public council information shows this council does not have a budget of billions.
Some critical thinking ‘what would happen if the council leaders ‘cut billions of spending’…NO SERVICES.

Lack of school places,early years provision (in the right places) lack of safeguarding vulnerable children and adults, lack of spending on highways, pavements, lighting, libraries, planning, parks… no LA funding for the elderly requiring care (a massive spend) …I could go on…

Who is this going to affect most? Certainly not Nigel Farage with his £5 million gift ( or me if I was lucky enough to be gifted £5 million).

Yes, that’s right, political corruption is famously in no way connected to poverty, inflation, poor economic growth, poor outcomes for the lowest social economic classes, reduction in public services, tax evasion, policy making decisions that benefit the wealthy, or anything like that at all.
