New poll finds only privileged people will vote for Labour - but why?

This is a new IPSOS poll. It finds that among the least well off in society, support for Labour has collapsed - it's now just 10%.

Even among people who are 'just about coping' financially, they're a distant fourth in the polls, and would be wiped out if it was just them voting.

But - here's what might be surprising - among wealthy people they are first in the polls, in fact their lead is so big that if only rich people could vote, it would be a landslide for Labour.

Any thoughts as to why it is now that only the most privileged people in society are voting Labour?

I’m not remotely wealthy and I’m from a working class background.

I’m educated though and put myself through a degree.

Will vote for Labour.

The thing is the poll says "comfortably off". Not Privileged as you say.

You are sort of re-defining terms here.

Labour voters are to be found en masse on Reddit. They are very very confident, have enough money and decided long ago to be Labour and arent reflective enough to adapt to changing reality of what Labour has become. They will hone in on small things to justify their heels being dug in. They are classic can’t see the wood for the tree peoole, that is indeed the essence of privelege. The luxury of pedantic myopia.

No surprise. Labour's policies don't give much support to hard working people struggling to pay ever increasing bills.

I've been thinking this for ages. Labour are not seen as the party of the poor/struggling/ normal working people. Most people who are struggling will vote reform or similar. Privileged youngsters will vote green. Privileged older people, conservative. Labour voters are middle class media types, high band NHS staff, high band social care staff and an assortment of other degreed professionals. I may still vote for them and I am one of the afore listed.

Labour always used to be the party of the working class - that's why they used to get in (MPs and councils) every time in poorer areas of the UK.

In all those poorer areas now, ie parts of Wales and northern England, they're polling so badly they could be wiped out.

Because the media view is often that Labour is the only "good" choice, and one that people will report a voting preference for?
