Why isn’t Trump being overthrown?

itsneverdullinull · 08/03/2026 07:39

I’m sorry if this is a really thick question but I’m guessing that the answers will be multi-faceted.

Why isn’t Trump being overthrown internally in the US? He is presiding over a shit show and trampling over the constitution from what I understand. But there doesn’t seem to be massive resistance to this (or at least none reported). Can anyone explain why this is, please. Genuine question.

Probably safer not to assume that what you and I know are the same thing.

You are incredibly naive if you think they go
for any other reason other than the higher wages and standards of living

If someone bombs your homeland, will you actually go seek refuge in that country? Really?

Tbh you and I both know they go for the money.

In any case, it seems like a dangerous game for both the refugee and the host country (who would face reprisals, recall America had four Muslim terrorist attacks in the last two weeks)

“Illegals” are often “illegal” because some twat has bombed their country or supported some really shit human rights violations. But if that’s your criteria then good for you. Let’s hope you’re never in a position to need help from someone outside your land mass.

Edited

Mass deportations. This is my ‘fix so many things wrong with my country’ button. And nobody ever thought to push it before Trump. They estimate that 3 million illegals have left since Trump was elected, at this rate perhaps most of the Bidenwave will have been forced to leave

So you’re happy that you have a ln unconvincted paedophile and a nepotistic convicted fraudster in charge of your country? Not to mention someone who isn’t that interested in looking after anyone in the country who doesn’t look and think like he does?

Also, genuinely, what has he done that constitutes the ‘most part’ that you like? I get that we might not hear about the good stuff he’s doing as it’s eclipsed by the bad, but if there are positives they should be highlighted. What are they?

It's about far more than Iran.

On a purely symbolic level, have you seen what he's done to the Whitehouse?

ICE?

Tariffs?

Greenland?

Etc, etc.

More people were killed by ice under Obama by the way.

Tarrifs is completely fair for him to do as the u.s president.

Greenland was definitely a step to far.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 19/03/2026 11:22

Yes I’d like to know exactly what positive things Trump has done.
I know for a fact that gas prices have risen in the US which affects the cost of living for every citizen.
It’s a genuine question, what positives has he brought?

flapjackfairy · 19/03/2026 10:07

spongebobbigguy · 19/03/2026 09:44

He’s an extremely controversial leader but he was elected through the U.S. democratic system and is supported by a large number of people who like his decisive ‘get stuff done’ approach to politics.

but what stuff is he getting done ? Genuine question.
He ran.on promises to end Ukraine war on day one no less. Ha ha that went well.
He said he would slash gas and electricity charges. Surprisingly they are massively up. And oil is obviously soaring now.
He promised to make health care affordable and has done the opposite.
He has bankrupted farmers and destroyed tourism and the economy is in the shitter. He has failed to create jobs
And finally he has trashed his promise not to engage in further wars or attack Iran. He wasn't sending your kids to die remember.
He is the president of peace after all.
.He also promised to be transparent about the Epstein files which was another lie.
So I ask again....what has he got done...except set up ICE and terrorise innocent people .

He has caused significant and long term damage to this country that won’t be reversed for a generation. History will not be kind to him.

It's not nearly the same. And I'd argue not nearly as much damage as the previous 14 years.

There is no valid comparison whatsover between the two, imo.

Correct.
stupid comparison.

FKAT · 19/03/2026 08:29

So weird how obsessed everyone is with Trump. You never get these threads about Putin or the Ayatollah (whoever he is now). Both Russian and Iranian regimes are engaged in (actual, stealth or proxy) war against the UK and its allies and have been for decades but I've yet to see an 'how to overthrow Putin' thread.

As for Trump 'starting the war in the Middle East' LOL. I'm old and my earliest memories of watching the news are wars in the middle East and Iran murdering uk citizens in London.

Because over half of Americans like myself voted for Trump and actually like what he’s doing for the most part?

No they didnt.
Google is free.

IdentityCris · 19/03/2026 08:18

BIossomtoes · 19/03/2026 08:03

What significant and long term damage would that be? If you were talking about Cameron I might agree with you - the damage his government inflicted on public services will never be reversed.

Or indeed Johnson and even Truss. The damage they did to the economy is having major long-term effects.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 19/03/2026 08:09

I’m also wondering why there isn’t a level above Trump which has to agree to his actions. Maybe there is and they agree with everything he is doing.
What I am aware of is that he gets rid of opponents. The head of the military spoke against Trump’s rationale about Ukraine for example and was swiftly replaced.
He surrounds himself with unqualified yes men.
Most of the US don’t care about Iran, that’s not a criticism, all citizens care primarily about themselves and their family and immediate circle.
Yet Trump is ruining the US economy. The price of petrol is rocketing.
Surely he can’t justify this to US citizens.

Both democracies both unpopular leaders. A key benefit of democracy is to change government without using guns.

lljkk · 19/03/2026 07:50

Trump won the popular vote in 2024.
He has lots of support.
Maybe what you're seeing is a failure of democratic accountability inherent in the Constitution, bcz his approval ratings are very low. Congress and Supreme Court are both supposed to hold presidential power in check. They aren't doing that bcz (Justice) Roberts wanted greater Exec Power since his days in Reagain administration. Meanwhile, McConnell missed the chance to impeach the Fecker when he should have.

Maybe it's literally a structural deficit though, that one Demigogue should be able to entrench power in the main federal government structures so (relatively) easily. The whole democratic apparatus has never been this tested before, even Nixon had enough shreds of dignity to feel shame and resign.

McConnell also blocked appt of Merrick Garland to SCOTUS entrenching the current SCOTUS very conservative super-majority that we see now.

Trying to blame McConnell means : should we blame the anti-abortion propagandists at work since 1980s for making Evangelicals think nothing else was more important?

Hardly the same level. You may not like Starmer but he hasn’t started a war in the Middle East.

Starmer approval rating is even worse, both are power hungry ego maniacs.
