Gorton and Denton, what have you done?

You have elected as an MP to stand in the UK&NI parliament a person who said in a panel interview with Annabel Tiffin from BBC Northwest Tonight that the Manchester Arena bombing was caused by people sewing division by questioning immigration.

That statement is so outrageous I don't even know where to start.

I've watched it. I've re-posted it myself. She's doesn't say what you're (shitstirringly) making out.

The clip's all over this thread, and you can google it easily. Sensible poeple can make their own mind up.

Again, stop stirring up hate.

I clearly see something very different here to you,

Happyjoe · 28/02/2026 12:06

She didn't start of so well, I think she's been learning a lot recently and being a bit smarter. Tbh, I thought she was awful when the tories were in charge.

But I agree, nice to not see a public schoolboy toff in the seat.

Edited

Oh I agree.
One was the one who gave us the Referendum. Blame him not those who voted.
Another one was a philandering liar. It was obvious that he was untrustworthy.

KB has improved a lot, I agree. I think she will not be leader for long because she doesn't fit into the 'populist leader' image.

I don’t think she’ll appeal to you whatever she says and does.

There’s plenty of men in politics that deserve the focus. A few words from a woman over the actions of men, nothing new there.

I know you can't bring yourself to criticise what Badenoch said. You couldn't even bring yourself to respond when politely asked to the two CSA survivors who explained to you exactly why it was so upsetting for them.

Will leave it there to avoid a derail.

I think the right is ( unintentionally ) transparent in its machinations. I'm surprised every day that ANYONE falls for it. It's quite unbelievable.

She definitely lacks decency and common sense at times. For example, she gave no thought to the survivors of CSA when she made her cheap jibe on Wednesday. A couple of people on another thread explained how upsetting it was for her to trivialise CSA (which they had experienced, sadly) it in that way.

Sewing division?

Sewing??

“Who named Britain "Great"? And was it really great? Going around the world slaughtering people and stealing their land is not great by any standards.“

It refers to size of the two islands, Great Britain and Less Britain. Nothing to do with colonialism.

Wellthisisdifficult · 28/02/2026 12:31

Pluto9812 · 28/02/2026 12:26

And too fucking right. Great Britain when it was Great Britain slaughtered and controlled people and nations. They also stole plenty of resources to increase wealth. Do some history.

And so did every other successful country. Why don’t you “do some history” and learn about history in context. Britain just happened to be better at the same think most countries have done or yr
ied to do throughout history

PandoraSocks · 28/02/2026 12:28

I don’t think Badenoch is trustworthy. She’s a computer hacker. I don’t think she’s particularly decent either.

People like you are the architects of the UK’s downfall. You clearly hate and despise this country and cheer at its downfall. If you hate Great Britain so much, then why don’t you stop wishing for its demise and find somewhere else to live that you don’t feel so ashamed of? I think you will find it very hard to find any country that doesn’t have regrettable points in its history.

It must feel very draining to feel so negative about your country of origin. May you wouldn’t feel that way if you took some time to learn about our culture and heritage?

It can’t be as bad as you say it is. Otherwise there wouldn’t be millions of tourists (around 40 million last year) and people desperate to come here to live.

Britain has never been great, that's the truth but I suppose that depends on what side of the fence you live on. I'm from a working class background, my grandfather was a prisoner of war in North Korean, I fought in the Falklands and Bosnia. From my perspective working class people have been used by the British government / establishment since times of kings and queens.

Doesn't matter what century you pick we've been cannon fodder, whether that's been in the battle field or in the factories or the work houses. The British empire was one of wealth extraction and exploitation which kept the poorest countries poor. Sorry to burst your bubble but your great is my exploitation. Those people who are hanging flags from lamp posts are celebrating what exactly....greatness or are they saying go home foreigners.

I've worked in some of the hottest zones in the world. Seen things that no one should ever see but one common theme prevails.....those at the top always benefit from those at the bottom doing things they won't do.

HermioneWeasley · 28/02/2026 12:28

The Greens have peddled a different type of division of racism to Reform, that’s all.

its well documented that their Urdu leaflets were anti India and anti Israel. Journalism Matthew Syed went to investigate and was approached outside a mosque by someone canvassing for the Greens whose pitch started with anti semitism. The greens’ deputy leader caused a Rabbi and his family to have to flee their home for their own safety.

I do not believe that India’s Modi or Israel or Jews present any threat to the UK. I do believe there is a balanced conversation that needs to be had about the impact of radical Islam on British society and security. FFS the UAE have stopped scholarships to UK universities because they’re worried about their young people being radicalised here! The only politician I see getting close to that balanced conversation is Kemi Badenoch.

People should be very frightened about what is happening in this country. There's no turning back now. Great Britain will never be great again.

And too fucking right. Great Britain when it was Great Britain slaughtered and controlled people and nations. They also stole plenty of resources to increase wealth. Do some history.

A completely reasonable and evidence based response 😂😂😂. Not at all unhinged. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Yeah. None of the Reform people ( conservative rejects ) are remotely unhinged, are they. And not in the least self serving. All.perfectly upright individuals😂😂😂( 'scuse me while I fall over laughing).

I can't change it, but I can change username when not on this thread.

I think that MrsB is lacking the 'populist' factor that people want in a leader.
Mrs May didn't have it and neither does Sir K S. Gordon Brown didn't have it.
All of them are decent, intelligent, trustworthy people.

Many people will vote for a person who they'd 'like to have a pint with'.
I despair.

I think it’ll take time but she gets a lot of love on SM (IG not here obvs). Her ratings are going up, people can see your points.

I just saw that ridiculous computer hacker thing below, she talks about this on desert island discs. Harman laughed it off.

Seaitoverthere · 28/02/2026 12:23

I think OP that our great country has failed somewhat with the educational system if you have taken what you put in your opening post from watching that section of the debate.

Fgs. You asked for a dedicated board for this claptrap, and you still try to shoehorn it into everything.

For the record, I don't think men can change sex, and they shouldn't be in woman's prison. It's not the only issue affecting the word at the moment.

Can you explain to me why my concern about the stated intent of Reform to repeal the EA is in your opinion 'claptrap'? And why you think a policy that would impact everyone who has a sex, a race, a religion or none, a disability, is married or isn't, so..everyone... should only be discussed on the FWR board, rather than on a thread where everyone is discussing Reform?
Did you actually read my post in context? Or are you confusing it with the one by the OP that I responded to?

What Gorton and Denton have done is rejected Reform and their racist, anti immigration policies and Trump arse licking. They have rejected a party that wants to abolish equal rights and worker’s rights.
Good for them.

I think they're good guys coming from the right place morally.

I do think they are offering over-simplistic solutions to complex problems. I think a lot of their policies could be economically unworkable, either per se, or because the markets would reject them.

I don't think this is a problem as long as they remain a party of protest, pulling the discourse back to a more civilised and decent place. I would feel uneasy if it looked like they were anywhere near forming a government.

They're still much better than Reform, however, who are clueless racist idiots funded by Russia.

Agreed. They are useful for voting balance in parliament. I agree some ideas are probably a bit unworkable. But how horrible we live in a world where banks dictate to the ppl and that they'll just throw a hissy fit if a govt comes up with financial ideas they dont like. I wouldnt mind if their hissy fits were motivated by real concern for stability in the markets, but it's really just concern that they wont be able to get their grubby hands on bonuses and their obscene squirrelled profits.

The Muslim community of Manchester completely rejected him. They refused him an islamic burial.
