It's actually the British who are notorious across the world for abusing animals, just look at the whaling industry and fox hunting! Exactly. If people eat meat it makes no difference if the cow was kicked to death or had a bolt put through its neck, you are still a meat eater and have no right to care about animal welfare at all.

Helal slaughter allows stunning. Kosher slaughter does not. As kosher meet is expensive and aimed at a specific market it will be labeled as such. So no problem.

Consumers don't have the right to know if food is halal slaughtered or not because most people in this country will then refuse to buy the halal food and many Muslim businesses will struggle as a result of people's xenophobia.

It doesn't change anything whether you know or not, so just get on with your life and enjoy your carcass burgers 👊

Buy a pack of mince meat from a supermarket and it's slop. Hardly worth buying it.....you would be better replacing it with lentils. Buy from a really good butcher and it's a different product...more expensive probably but if we buy less but from good suppliers then surely that will help improve things

Probably because people will be shocked by what is being sold. The entire meat processing industry is run by utter crooks. Non stun just means the animal suffers more. Religious slaughter doesn't mean some man blessing and animal as it calmly walks into a straw lined barn, it's a sign above a door and and animal being bled to death after jabbed by sticks and they can hear what is going off 50 yards away. I'm afraid perception is very different from reality. Best thing to do is ban it, if people want it they will need to eat frozen imports. Might upset a few people but it's worth the upset

People need to be honest with themselves and accept that you can't support this level of meat eating without mass extreme suffering. These animals are so stressed and so afraid that the product you get is sub standard. I think if people witnessed a commercial abattoir they would never eat meat again. It's cruel and there is no escaping from it and fast food is driving it.

Can you imagine if we ate meat just twice a week. There wouldn't be lorry loads of animals being rushed through a meat processing plant.

What is the downside of labelling it as stunned or non-stunned? It is just information that allows a consumer to make a choice.

I agree, religious slaughter of any kind should be labelled but I also think it should be banned in the UK.

I also believe that we are eating far too much meat regardless. It's a factory process to feed our love for flesh and it's incredibly cruel and damaging.

My parents were farmers and farming has changed because it has adapted to produce cheap food for a growing population. When I was a child meat was a luxury item and it wasn't something you got every day. A Sunday roast was probably the most expensive meal of the week. My mum might make a stew or shepherds pie but it would last a couple of days. Meat is now getting expensive again but that hasn't stopped the growth of kebab shops, burger joints and wing shops, it's not normal to be eating meat three times a day.

This demand means that animals are literally being fed through a meat grinder to produce very low quality food. I'm not sure what that says about us as a species that put regards for animals is now so low that we don't even think about the animals that had gone into making something that you would be better off not eating at all. It's a tragedy and utterly wasteful.

If you think 'stunned' meat - ie: birds dunked briefly in electrified water - is humane, you need to wake up. No living being wants to have its life taken violently for the sake of your carcinogenic meal.

If you're only concerned about this one aspect of the welfare of the animals that you eat, then that suggests that your primary agenda is something other than animal welfare.

I don't eat meat at all, but I won't be signing your stupid petition. I will happily sign something which calls for better standards of animal welfare across all aspects of meat production though.

Why should people have to choose only one aspect of animal cruelty they care about?
It is perfectly possible to be vegan AND protest against long transports AND be against factory farming AND ask for animals to be stunned before slaughter etc etc.

I don't want to eat halal meat. I want it to legally be stunned, but I also don't want some idiot saying a prayer over it.

Most farming practices in the UK are appauling. Please research how the majority of farmed pigs live.
