Yes you are right - those poor bands that can’t make it to their gigs without filling their paperwork in… literally peak middle class out of touch mumsnet. Go talk to some low skilled workers who can’t get jobs due to all our ‘imports’ and I will cry you a river.

Hold your tears. I doubt you have many. You have absolutely zero idea of who I am or what I’ve experienced. That was my point, but I expect you miss many points.

This stuff annoys me. Not because I like Nigel Farage but because it undermines serious complaint.

Going after him with things like this and complaints about school 40 plus years ago just allow him to say "see they are frightened and out to get me".

Argue the political points properly or he will get in. We have not learned from Brexit. Shouting 'gammon' at people and refusing to acknowledge that there were genuine issues around employment contracts etc with an endless supply of cheap labour did nothing but further entrench the sticking two fingers up attitude.

Make the case for what you can offer instead and why they are wrong.

Exactly- basing your political offering on "simply not being the other guy" rather than actual alternative policies does not win elections as Kamala Harris found out the hard way.

To be fair the prime example of this is Ed Davey and the LibDems. I mean they have 70 odd MPs and other than "Trump is a bad man" and "Farage is a bad man", WTF are their actual policies to make things better.

We might not like Labour or the Conservatives but at least they have policies whether you agree with them or not

Well I can predict that already…

And yes we have had Reform. We’ve had all the ex Tories before. For 14 years.

Labour and Tories are a uniparty. Same policies applied, just a lot faster with a Labour government. Much, much longer than 14 years.

Either you're being deliberately ignorant or genuinely, don't understand that populism doesn't mean popular. It's quite clear you're on here for the wind up, but for anyone else reading It's important to clarify the difference.

There is no difference: democracy literally means people power. Go and campaign for unpopular things and see how quickly you get elected.

NinaNina83 · 17/01/2026 12:54

And we can also see the track record of the reform cllrs voted in 16 months or so ago, plus Nige's track record of being an MP to see exactly where we are headed.

People voted in people standing for reform who are totally out of their depth, don't have the inclination or knowledge to help constituents and not much interest in politics. All they did was stand for election because they don't like 'boat people'.

Tbh, does any government ever follow through on what they say to get our votes? The difference here being that both Labour and the Tories have been proven to lie to get our votes, but we haven’t had Reform yet, so we can’t judge on whether they will deliver what they promise in their manifesto.

I don’t think Starmer likes this country . The next big security risk is him signing off on this massive Chinese embassy when so many are saying he shouldn’t .

Yep, and sending our soldiers boots on the ground to Ukraine, which when some of them get killed would spark WWIII.

Just a typical example of a Reform voter.

The NHS needs reform. It no longer works. It needs someone with balls, and who is surrounded by same thinking back benchers to get any proposals through, to dismantle and rebuild it, and there may need to be partial, privatisation. And it’s a myth to say that the NHS needs immigration. Yes, it might need doctors and consultants from other countries to bring their wealth of knowledge, but otherwise we have many people living here currently not working who can take those jobs. Starmer tried to bring through a Welfare review bill, but unfortunately the far left on his back benches blocked it. Maybe Reform can get a Welfare review in place, freeing up the work shy to take jobs.

And here are the facts: https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/cbp-7783/
Up to 36 percent of London NHS doctors are from outside the UK.
So your solution for the NHS is for what - to take the unemployed training as doctors and surgeons? I'm sure those on waiting lists can wait for them to get a degree (or even GCSEs and A levels) to serve in Farage's NHS army.
I think if horrors of horrors we get the Farage show in power it would be like the Reform councils who when greeted with facts and reality end up just putting up flags whilst people wait for the actual solutions.
I don't understand the need for privatisation argument either. I'd be very wary of where you're getting the information from and who would be profiting from it. And, bear in mind that privatised water, gas and electricity haven't turned out too well.

I see. So because you can’t answer me your deflecting. Says absolutely everything I need to know about you.

I ask again. What has Nigel Farage ever done that has been positive for the UK?

HopSpringsEternal · 17/01/2026 10:29

I mean, the obvious point is that populism doesn't give people what they want. It just pretends that it does. Unless of course what you want is to scapegoat minorities
In the hopes that will make your life better whereas in reality, it will make you poorer and a select few people richer. Which might be exactly what you're after. For all, I know, you might want to be poorer, or you might be one of the five percent that might gain from having a very right wing (or left wing) government.
I might be wrong and you will find me some good examples where populism has led to the majority having a better life. In which case I would love to hear about them.

Populism = populace, people, individuals.
Democracy = mob rule.

The two words are different but mean roughly the same thing. Populism has just been made into a dirty word over the years because it doesn't work in the same way democracy does.

Populism gives everyone what they want on an individual basis; whatever is popular to those people. Democracy is to take a vote and apply it across the board regardless of what some people want.

Example: My company mandated an office day once a fortnight. A small number of outgoing people love these days and think everyone else is a miserable git and anti-social. The people that can't get any high quality work done in such an environment, the 'anti-social miserable git' ones, have to just muddle through the day and try not to snap and staple anyone to their desk.

If the office days were on an individual basis, as in people were given the choice to go in, then staff morale would have gone through the roof, but the loud "I don't have an indoor voice" people in the company didn't want it to be done that way.

The LibDems are a social club these days, they're not a serious party. It all kind of reminds me of Hot Fuzz. A quaint, sleepy village just trying to maintain the peace and quiet, and then some liberal Metropolitan city copper gets parachuted in to bring law and order, crime suddenly spikes, the villagers get fed up and go from being calm and docile to hard right almost overnight.

Sadly our major towns and cities, and increasingly their outskirts have not been calm and sleepy for a few hundred years or more, there's a reason why people escape to the country.
Whilst I love the Cornetto films, the other take away from Hot Fuzz is that it was only calm and sleepy because the locals were vigilantes, and sergeant Angel was sent there because his crime solving enthusiasm made his colleagues look bad.....perhaps you're right after all.

What I don't get about Reform voters is that you got your Brexit, you got your Boris Johnson, you got your Liz Truss and the Daily Mail salivation of her budget and you got 14 years of right wing government. Did these help you? Did these help you to get employment, get a doctor's appointment or address cost of living? They jolly well did not. And now whilst Labour are trying to sort out the mess, you're masochistically wanting more of the same, if not worse. Farage hates the NHS. Reducing taxes isn't going to help public services either is it? Nor will reducing immigration re those who work in the NHS. Farage only wants to help himself. He's an awful MP, he's hardly in Parliament and Reform councils have been resolutely awful and are now increasing council tax. Yes, you want change but looking to the right wing is so not the answer.

Holy moly, not right wing enough for you? Liz Truss didn't work out too well, did she? So where things have gone wrong is that those 14 years weren't right wing enough or that your Brexit wasn't hard enough??!! I rest my case with masochism, unless you are fortunate enough to be in the top 5% income wise and able to afford private education or private healthcare and presumably everyone else should just work harder or something.

Correct - not right wing enough

14 years of a right wing government? Pull the other one it’s got bells on: sunak and Johnson were little more than Lib Dem’s in drag.

Do you truly believe he will do the things he says?

Thats the bit I don’t get.
We cannot have low taxes, low immigration & improved services. It will not happen.

I would love to believe in utopia to by the way.
