I'm no fan of Kemi Badenoch, but I'm even less of a fan of Robert Jenrick, and I'm rather delighted to see that she has sacked him and withdrawn the whip before he could jump to Reform.

She has definitely had the last laugh here. He must be spitting bullets!!

It does matter if they are replaced by someone worse. If only we had a fair voting system, we would never have had Boris Johnson or Liz Truss as PM for starters.

Instead we have a landslide victory and a dangerously out of control government based on votes received from less than 20% of the eligible electorate.

NHS waiting lists are down to their lowest for years.

GDP growth is up, inflation down, interest rates down, Govt borrowing costs down... wages on avg above inflation... that 'll feed through in better economics.

Agree on adult social care, that i don't understand.

Is GDP growth per capita up?

double0seven · 16/01/2026 07:06

I think Reform will win the next GE because the vast majority of people are so fed up with the Lies, double standards and behaviour of politicians that sometimes verges on criminal. It will be a two fingers up to the establishment election. (Which is exactly what Brexit was)
I think Farage needs to be careful, if Reform voters feel it is the new Conservative party they will turn away.
These politicians, Jenrick at al are so hungry for a seat in the HOC they just cannot stop themselves. I feel sorry for the constituents of the MPs who have jumped ship. Where the Conservative candidate won the seat they now have a reform MP.
I think Kemi B demonstrated strong leadership in acting the way she did btw.

It really doesn’t matter. Labour has to be removed and hopefully not sighted again for decades if ever at all.

Not true. Some (many) of us have been absolutely screwed by this government and are watching our livelihoods and future security slip away. Wait till they come for pensions. They are anti-business and make deductions based on dogma (and some would say jealousy) rather than rational, evidence based choices. They seem determined to punish the prudent and hard working. They have cowardly failed to try to sort out the nhs and elderly care.

As someone who does not follow things closely:

Reform are doing well because they are different, they have a strong message, people who want change like decisiveness.

Labour appear to be floundering without a clear direction and it seems like they are tinkering on the edges.

The conservatives still seem somewhat divided with no clear message. They pander to the right right wing but those will vote reform anyway, they need to be centre right.

Greens and Lib Dems are hopeless on womens rights which means I don't trust them an inch as they appear to have no critical thinking skills.

Omnishambles all round.

Badenoch found that Jenrick planned, very soon, to defect and in a nasty way designed to harm the Tories.

What exactly was she supposed to have done? she had no other choice but to sack him and withdraw the whip.

What on earth do posters who think this shows "strength and leadership" think what alternatives she had were ???

All i can think of is some are trying to see a silver lining which isn't there, its a disaster for the Tories.... he has totally trashed them, he is no Zahawi (hated as corrupt) many Tories love Jenrick, he wont he last.

What this will do for Reform and in particular, the Tories, who knows.

But at least we all know Rwanda was a con and the Govt knew it wouldn't work...

Edited

Yes, thank God Labour got in and are ‘smashing the gangs’ so effectively.

Oh don't be silly. They've raised taxes a bit and had a few scandals - no worse and no better than any other recent government. All this bollocks online about Starmer bring the worst PM ever is just hyperbole attempting to shift public opinion. Most people think he's dull but capable. Made a few bad decisions. Hardly the enemy 🙄

And Farage won't be leading Reform by the next election. He doesn't want to be PM - far too much like hard work. He'll be living in Dubai, funded by his Russian mates.

I’m astonished that anyone doesn’t consider this current government as by far the worst in living memory.

For the first time ever I feel the government is my enemy. I never thought I’d ever feel anything remotely like that.

Quite simply they are a destructive force. It is possibly made worse because they know they are already living on borrowed time so are adopting a scorched earth policy.

It feels like we are being punished for something we didn’t do. Left wing ideology is poisonous.

Mn is still a bit more Labour so you’ll get responses below but generally your feelings are shared by many I’m sure.

mellongoose · 16/01/2026 06:22

Most Conservative voters that I know, including those who campaigned for RJ’s leadership campaign (not me) have expressed utter contempt for him. They feel utterly let down by him. They do not want to move over to Reform because he is there.

Kemi was excellent and decisive. She knows how hard her job is but she is growing stronger. I like that she speaks the truth regardless of her audience whether it’s popular or not.

A party that was so resoundingly rejected only 18 months ago understands that they are not yet ready to be trusted again. However, this awful government has to go before hospitality , small businesses and the countryside are totally decimated by people who don’t understand us.

I fear total chaos with a Reform government. They understand business, but don’t understand government. It will be a mess.

They are clearing up the mess left by people like Jenrick and Badenoch

How about taking some responsibility for your politics that have wrecked the country?

Austeeriry rujned the public sector. Cameron and Johnson ruined the economy for the longterm throuhh Brexit. Truss's budget of doom has screwed us with the worst inflation for 40 years. Johnson ruined any trust in politicians. The millions he and his friends stole during the pandemic is a travesty. Created divisions in the country and ruined our reputation abroad.
I don't like Labour, theyfucked up on the Winter Fuel allowance, not helped business and have flipped flopped all over the place and have been ineffective but not the worst. No way. Explain to me what they've done thats worse than the Tories?

Im a tory voter and Kemi is doing great. This is another example of its her house, she is in charge. Get in line or get out. Jenrick cant be trusted, he was a remainer until he changed his mind, he supported the echr until he changed his mind, he didnt like farage until he changed his mind, he wanted to be party leader until he changed him mind. He stood by Kemi when polls were against her thinking he may have a chance to take her role, now she is climbing the polls, he builds his profile and then plots to leave. He cant be trusted. Good ridence

Then what was Badenoch doing having this man in her shadow cabinet in the first place?

But i do agree, Good Riddance!

dwordle · 16/01/2026 06:00

If you look at those that have jumped ship, one basically avoided paying tax, another wants to be PM....long list of the worst type of MPs.....and reform are just full of odious liars and a history of changing their skins when it suits them.

Reform should be barred from elections on the basis they pose a security threat. Aligned with Putin....

I don't think putting Jenrick in Reform will do Reform any favours. Apparently, the majority of 'faces' in Reform don't like him, and the people who would vote Reform as an alternative to the main parties don't want another Tory party. Yes, Reform need some big hitters with cabinet experience to make themselves more credible, but the current crop of Tony defectors are not the answer to Reforms problems. They're seen as troughers, ditching their previous party for a whiff of continual trough access. I predict Jenrick won't last long with them. Gone by summer, I reckon. He's not a 'company man'. He won't lick enough boots with the right degree of fervour unless there's something big in it for him, and the way they've structured their party means that the voters whims count for nowt. The next GE result will be a coalition, most likely, without Reform. (If anyone is taking bets).

I was hoping Farage was going to shaft Jenrick, but, alas.

TooBigForMyBoots · 16/01/2026 00:00

Reform UK have just gained their first wannabe minister for petty cruelty against children.

They're welcome to Robert Jenrick.

Have you not seen the newspapers - mumsnet is now very pro reform.

Haha - 20% of 1,000 members surveyed does not equal ‘’very pro reform’’ in my world. It has been framed that way to make people think a lot of people think that way so it must be the right choice.

I will link this thread for your perusal. This is what mumsnet thinks of reform 🤣

People just want to see the end of this awful Labour government.

As with so many elections in the UK, the outcome will most likely revolve around votes against a particular party as opposed to votes in favour of another.

I will vote in whichever way is best to remove Labour. That means my vote would be different depending which constituency I live in. I am far from alone with that approach.

I dont think they can be described as awful. Disappointing and visionless but not awful. Truss and Johnson were awful.

Please don’t vote for Reform.

I’m right of centre, I’m a conservative with a small ‘c’, but truly, Reform are snake oils salesmen and frankly traitors.

They have a cosy relationship with Russia, Farage refuses to acknowledge the mess Brexit has caused, they’ve backtracked on their sensible positions while going full throttle on their ludicrous ones. I don’t trust them at all, I think they’re a national security risk and would just preside over further carnage and corruption.

I’m going to vote Conservative probably.

Please don't vote Conservative!

We have had years to see how shit they are in Government.
