Heath (Cons) was in for 4 years, he gave us a collapsed economy and a 3 day week by the end of it, massive economic issues.
But Heath had spiralling oil prices, they increased 4 fold.... so hardly surprising he had problems, which carried on into much of the 70s.
Labour came in, 2 GE in a 12month period, before they got a small majority, didn't even gain proper power until 1976, by which time it was too late and they decided on the IMF.
Thatcher had North Sea Oil, yet she gave it away in tax cuts, nothing on infrastructure, nothing saved for a rainy day (no wealth fund) yet still managed 2 deep recessions, plus sold off almost all public services, she even tried to sell off the NHS....
"Saved the Day" or caused many of the problems we all see today? not least in an almost total lack of council housing and the water industry.
Neither the Tories or Labour covered themselves in glory, both inherited issues but to simply say Tories good, Labour Bad is just ignorant.
