Is the murder of Renee Good by Trump's immigration police news in the U.K.?

As Trump keeps pursuing this insane violent crackdown, supposedly on illegal immigrants, but actually much beyond that - A woman in Minneapolis was shot, in her car. Luckily there is a ton of video, but Trump's people are already maligning her, and it's a horrible tragedy.

Yes but we don't care

We being who? Most people care.

The main topic of conversation that relates to stories like this is how little Brits want to go to the US now. Or work there. Most Brits previously viewed a holiday in the States as an unusual but nice luxury. We have all of Europe to holiday in, but being taken to New York for a long weekend or going to Florida for the theme parks, or going to Miami / California, or a big road trip - lovely. Exciting.

Now - no desire to go. Worried about border control and ending up imprisoned because some twat of a guard is on a power trip and they found something I tweeted five years ago. Generally the feeling that a country we felt was our friend no longer is. And is now erratic. We knew Trump was last time round but this time round it feels like it is the entire federal state. And all this slagging off of the UK on social media doesn’t make us feel there’s a friendship either. Friends don’t chat shit (and it is shit) about each other.

For the amount of U.S. news we get you’d think you were our neighbour. There’s more news about the U.S. than the whole of E.U.

The story has been widely publicised.

GoodGriefCharlie · 13/01/2026 09:03

This thread is a relief. Ironically, I’ve seen quite a few pro-Trump comments on the feminist board making excuses for what the woman did wrong. I used to find those boards really interesting and educational - for years actually. Done with them now I think.

Good! (No pun intended.) I'm glad so many of you are aware of it.

There is the hilarious bitter irony of Trump declaring he's willing to take military action against Iran to protect their protesters, while he attacks American protesters here.

I heard that quote from him and was like 'Sir Hiss' from Disney's Robin Hood, when Little John kissed off all the King's ring jewels. So hypocritical.

We've heard about him calling her a 'Fucking bitch' wasn't it? This strongly points towards it being murder for me but are the courts going to prosecute him? I said to my DH that it was really weird how he positioned himself in front of her car the way he did; almost like he was willing it to happen. Combined with his words after the shooting, it sounds like she wound him up and he engineered an excuse to shoot her in the face.

Absolutely appalling and of course, the statement made by Trump straight after was full of untruths. He just says what he fucking likes and hopes 'headology' (as Granny Weatherwax calls it) will make us imagine it to be so.

My son emigrated to the US fifteen years ago, when he married an American woman.

He certainly talks to me about it, and the rest of the current chaos with Trump.

Not good, and I worry about him living out there.

SouthernNights59 · 13/01/2026 06:38

I'm in New Zealand and it's been widely reported here OP, in case you are interested.

PermanentTemporary · 13/01/2026 06:12

For the shooter?? Why? His legal fees or something?

That post you're posting about was referring to a fund for the s h o o t e r.

Indeed, and it's already raised half a million dollars. Unbelievable.

EasternStandard · 12/01/2026 21:34

Yes maybe not first anymore, which is Iran but a lot of people on social media, but they could be on any country really.

MsAmerica · 12/01/2026 21:31

Flintgranet · 12/01/2026 21:26

Not sure, but I think the previous poster was saying there's a GFM for the shooter.

Omigod, you're right! I was going so fast that I misread that!

Well, I can only say that Trumpers have the distasteful habit of supporting murderers and would-be murders, if the victim is liberal, or black, or immigrant... For instance, Kyle Rittenhouse, an idiot teenager who took someone else's gun to a local upheaval and ended up killing two people - Trumpers loved him.

I'm guessing that the Go Fund Me money is intended to provide for her three children.

I mean, people in the UK were - mainly - already convinced that roving gangs of masked, armed men empowered to do as they please was a poor idea.

It's a horrible murder, but it's not the first and it comes after months of attacks on citizens and residents and disappearances worthy of Pinochet.

I'm truly sorry that you are living through this disease of authoritarian rule. I hope to heaven it's not catching.

RyanFudgingMurphy · 12/01/2026 21:23

European media follows American news very closely because the Americans are our military ally. We also like to laugh at the orange cheesy Wotsit and his government. Being crazy/unstable/incompetent is dangerous though.

MsAmerica I assume from your username you're actually IN America?

Yes, it's been huge news here. Absolutely huge. The aftermath is still being covered. Politicians have commented on it. It was the main item on Newsnight within 24 hours of it happening. New news on it has been covered fully (different video footage coming out, etc). I think it made the front pages the next day for most press.

I mean, you could look up various mainstream news sites and see?

It's also what many of us have been talking angrily about among ourselves. The day after it happened (time difference - think that makes it Thursday) I got into a spontaneous conversation about it with the owner of my friendly local coffee shop. My son and I talked of little else for the 24 hours afterwards. It's popping up on UK political feeds on social media, as well as US ones. What did you expect?

Yes, I'm in America.

As to what I'd expect - I try, in this forum, to remember modestly that I'm more or less an outsider, and that I shouldn't arrogantly expect American issues to necessarily be of interest in a "foreign" forum. God knows most Americans have little interest in things across the sea. In fact, that's part of the problem with Trump - he's basically insular at heart.

Yes. It’s big news here.
Are there many protests in the US?

You know, I'm not sure.

First of all, I get my news by reading articles, preferably ones that bring me up to date and analyze a situation. So maybe I'm less likely to know about protests than people who get their news from watching videos.

Second, there were already so many protests related to ICE ( Immigration* *and Customs Enforcement) that it's impossible to separate this out as a separate issue.

On social media the only news as big is the Iranian Revolution (mainstream media slowly catching up)

Yes. Personally we're horrified. There's no way we'd consider going to USA for the foreseeable and lots of people i know feel the same.
