Blair regretted the amount of time the debate took, not the actual banning of fox hunting.
Too busy, so annoying Tory voting country people was given priority over violence against children in Rochdale and other northern towns.

That's a bit of an odd post.

Clear policies...look at the Reform website I assume? Probably not the space here for me to run through them if you can just Google their website. I assume they will change before they release their manifesto in 2029.

No idea re NF telling the truth. He sounds like he is. "What has he said that is a provable lie?" is probably a better question.

What promises can he make that are realised? He's not in power.

He has taken pay for work he hasn’t done. He was instrumental during Brexit, which was largely based on false promises. He has repeatedly deflected questions which might incriminate him, rather than give straight answers.

EEexpat · 10/01/2026 15:08

There have been many anti Brexit and Farage threads on MN over the years where the OP seldom posts, if at all, after their initial post. Guess if some don’t agree with their views, they lose interest immediately?

Boris Johnson survived party gate. He was brought down by one of the Tory sex scandals. Namely knowingly giving the chief whip position to a sex pest and then lying about it when he got caught out.

He did later quit as an MP over lying to the house but that was nothing to do with Sue Grey. That was a unanimous decision by a cross party parliamentary committee. Although I suspect it was more because he was bored by that point. He’d done the PM thing and wanted to be out making money from having been PM.

The main investigation was carried out by Sue Grey though. So the findings are obviously questionable.

Appointing someone dodgy hasn't brought Keir Starmer down though? Seems to be a different set of rules for Labour.

You mean Johnson? Only because all of his Cabinet resigned first, So he couldn't carry on.

Boris Johnson was brought down by party gate. As investigated by the completely impartial Sue Gray.....

Much of your list is not proven or not actually breaching any rules. Im not saying the Conservatives are squeaky clean. Far from it.. But a Conservative PM did actually resign for breaching the rules. Unlike some other PMs I could mention....

Ufortunately most of Labour Cabinet Ministers (or ex Cabinet Ministers) transgressions are actually proven and are actually a breach of the rules. And they are in power at the moment. So are the relevant ones for the press to be investigating.

Hilarious. The right wing media go after Labour every day. Every leader, every minister, MPs if they can be bothered. Probably the worse thing I ever saw was hacks turning up at the Miliband's uncles funeral and asking the mourners for dirt on them.
And yet Johnson wasn't allowed some Foreign Office briefings when he was Foreign S because he wasn't security cleared... His dubious Russian links, the young girl he put in the Lords. And they made him PM.
Farage's house in Clacton, his actual residence in Brussels, the fact he spends more time in the US than in Parliament.
Geoffrey Cox the Attorney General who lived in the Bahamas.
Priti Patel sacked twice and bullied staff
Dominic Raab bullied staff and handled the Afghanistan exodus appallingly, just didn't do his job.
I could go on but I can guarantee that if any of these examples were a Labour person we would never have heard the end of it.

But I don't think thats true at all. Labour politicians don't seem to get the same scrutiny. To consider just one example, what happened about those Ukrainian rent boys that managed to set fire to Starmer's car under very interesting circumstances. Now thats the sort of thing we need popcorn for, not some dredged up boring stuff about Farage.

Or if Labour politicians are scrutinised and found to do something dodgy (eg Angela R) not much happens and they are still potential leadership candidates. Bizarre.

That’s my point. He isn’t trying to prove his innocence. He didn’t even go for ‘I was young and immature and wouldn’t do that now’ His defence is that it was a joke not that he didn’t say those things or make gas hissing noises at Jewish pupils.

He probably can't remember for sure. I'm years younger than NF and I can't remember half the stuff at school that we did or said. I appreciate the people who he allegedly said it to would remember though. But I think their motives in bringing it up are political so can't really be relied on 100%. I think that's a fair and reasonable approach.

If they can prove he did say those things then that's different as they are awful.

And if they are proven, then the issue of whether you should be held professionally responsible for something you said as a child needs to be considered and what precedent that sets. Bearing in mind it would apply to any politician of any stripe.

I would never be "enraged" by MN. And you won't be able to "piss me off" as presumably I won't be able to piss you off.

I don't support Reform. Im a Conservative at the moment. But I will vote tactically (against all my hitherto held standards) to keep out Labour if I have to, so I may end up voting Reform.

I think NF has acknowledged that their vetting system hasn't been good enough. Obviously having racists in the party is a very bad thing if they want to get elected as it will deter voters so presumably once their organisation gets better this won't happen. As they want to get elected. All parties have bad apples TBF.

Fair point. But it's hard for Farage to be impartial on this issue, given that he has an obvious bias himself.

It'd be like turkeys making decisions about Christmas.

Nothing major has come up that you seem to be aware of. If Farage had got half the level of scrutiny from the press that Rayner got over her house he’d be finished. We should be wondering why he doesn’t.

The school bullying thing does seem to have got some traction and hit home for some reason. I’m quite happy to believe the bit where Farage doesn’t deny doing it but I’m not so sure about the bit where he claimed hr didn’t mean anything by it. He does get very tetchy when it’s brought up which is his usual tell on the rare occasion a journalist holds him to account.

I suppose the issue is that its so unfair. Who else would get held responsible professionally for something they said while a child. And NF can't prove his innocence (just as the accusers can't prove guilt).

Its not a good precedent to set.

I think there is a hell if a lot the public don’t know about him. His Belgian residence for example. Mind you Tice, that famous patriot lives in Dubai.

Maybe. But hes been in politics for 30 years and under negative scrutiny all that time. People have been desperate to discredit him and find dirt obviously. And nothing major has come up really. So voters probably have a better idea of what they are getting with him more than anyone.

But without wanting to enrage you (genuinely, you're a random on the internet that I don't know and therefore really don't care about enough to want to piss you off), there is so much evidence about their supporters and councillors either engaging in violence over race or making offensive comments about people of other ethnicities.

Now, in general, people that aren't racist don't do those things. So if they do it and say it, it's fair to assume that is their belief system.

Possibly not yours. But if not, why would you support a party for whom it is a key element of their make-up?

What are Reform?

What clear policies do they have?

Can you give an example of when Farage has told the truth when questioned, or does he deflect? Can you give an example of when one of his promises has been realised?

It isn’t a left wing thing to not trust someone who has repeatedly been slippery and dishonest.

That's a bit of an odd post.

Reform aren't a fascist party. And their MPs don't incite racial hatred.

I thought we had all learned about inappropriate over-use of the words "fascist" and "racist"?

I dont think there are "rich pickings". Hes been in politics for 30 years and scrutinised and pilloried throughout. People know what they are getting already.

The latest story about his school days is desperate and ridiculous because it's clearly a political hit job (particularly listening to one of the "victims" describing what happened 50 years ago on Radio 4 and then ruining it by then criticising Farage's current politics which was amusing).

Most people are reasonable. Most people don't judge a person on their behaviour at school many decades ago in a different time with a different culture. People criticising Farage as a child are at the same time supporters of current and former Labour Cabinet ministers or PMs who behave badly now as adults while actually in power.

Having said that I do expect the hit jobs to continue from Labour. Dominic Cummings predicted they will go for everything they can. Bank accounts, health records etc by fair or foul means. Not pleasant for anyone. But NF should take some comfort in knowing that most people (even if they aren't Reform voters) will know what Labour are up to.
