Left wingers seem as bad as right wingers

I’ve seen so many people this last week who see themselves as such “right on” virtuous people posting the most horrible things on social media.

One replied to a post about Charlie Kirk, it was basically a “sorry not sorry” post because he’s so hateful. When asked by someone if she’s actually seen any of his debates she said she didn’t need to, the facts are there that he was basically a fascist who incites violence. FWIW I’ve watched several of his videos since seeing her post today and seen nothing that suggests this, even though I don’t agree with his opinion on many things (but apparently he’s doing it in code, whatever that means)

Another friend was ranting about the protest in London and using really horrible terms to describe people that went. I hate what the flags have come to represent, and I don’t doubt that there were many thugs there just wanting to stir up hate. Surely though, describing all who went to the protest as the same (basically they’re all thick as shit racist hooligans) is no better than someone describing all immigrants as benefit chasing potential rapists (or insert any other racist stereotype)

Am I missing something? Or is it considered acceptable to make sweeping generalisations as long as you’re on the left side of the political spectrum?

They can’t fathom that some little old lady might be intimidated when the hotel up the road is filled with young men who hang around on the streets in gangs.

Might the same little old lady also be intimidated by a crowd of coked-up shaven-headed blokes with England flags and cans of Stella, and about half of them having convictions for domestic violence, chanting racist slogans towards the hotel?

Half of them got convictions for domestic violence? What, like the half of immigrants who are violent rapists or terrorists?

Pull your head out of your arse.

SisterTeatime · 17/09/2025 19:41

It doesn’t have to be about who’s ‘worse’. However, I agree with you that the supposedly tolerant left don’t always cover themselves in glory. Some of the responses to Luigi Mangione and Charlie Kirk are two examples of moral compasses gone very wrong indeed. The left also has an antisemitism problem.

And as pp have said, anyone who thinks people on the left don’t intimidate and threaten women, they haven’t been paying attention to the trans debate.

Politics is too tribal, and tribalism makes people justify, say and do things they ought to know are wrong.

ThingsThatMakeYouGoHmmmmmmmmm · 17/09/2025 19:39

The complete and utter contempt and disdain the Left ( seemingly now a place occupied by middle class, degree holding folk ) have for the working class was revealed in all it's ugliness during the Brexit debate, and certainly after the referendum. I, as a bit of an EU loving lefty ( at that time ) was hugely disappointed. It was truly vile. And very illuminating.

Far left Chairman Mao and Stalin
Far Right Hitler
Either scenario I'm toast! Give me a moderate centrist society anyday with a large dose of democracy and free speech. Also manners, I like manners.

😂. Centrist doesn't exist for normal people like us, I'm afraid.

You’re assuming here that I’m right wing. I’m not, I’ve never voted conservative and certainly won’t be voting reform.

I’m just shocked at some of the stuff my left leaning friends have been posting which show that they don’t really have any understanding or tolerance of how anyone else thinks. They can’t fathom that some little old lady might be intimidated when the hotel up the road is filled with young men who hang around on the streets in gangs. This isn’t “right wing rhetoric” either, it happens in our local town.

One of your ‘tolerant left’ just put a bullet through a young mans neck. In front of his wife and children. Have a word with yourself.

Let's look at the MANY, MANY, MANY members of your intolerant right murdering innocent kids at their schools, people worshipping in churches, a Democrat and her husband and even their dog recently. Let's not forget Dumpy Trump's ICE thugs violently kidnapping innocent people with no due process splitting up their families and literally leaving kids crying lost in the streets, your far right lunatics setting up an alligator auschwitz CONCENTRATION CAMP and literally salivating and laughing at the thought of alligators eating people and all the people in Gaza that the right supports killing.

Have a word with yourself and what you support.

AnotherNaCha · 17/09/2025 19:24

Just no. Absolutely not, no truth in that. But this seems to be the new tactic of the far right to hide their atrocities behind lies about the left. And people blindly follow it. Hateful Nigel will be the next PM as a result, then we’re all screwed

It would bother me if my friends were posting things like that too. I am in agreement that some changes need to be made to immigration. But right now, the racist rhetoric is winning.

Appalonia · 17/09/2025 19:19

I've been horrified and disgusted at all the left wing pp in America making cruel, gloating posts and videos about the murder of Charlie Kirk in America. No one deserves to be murdered for their views. Ever. And then you see them defacing tributes to him or disrupting vigils for him. If that is the state of the current left, then count me out as they have lost all humanity.

We would all probably be considered too right or too left by others. I prefer to discuss the details of what people say they want rather than the theory and the grand ideas.

So if you’re proudly leftist. What would you do if you got in to power? What policies? And no ‘make the rich pay and make everyone be excellent to each other’ stuff. The actual actions you would take? The new laws? I find the left rarely have the detail or the answers but want the virtue points.

Hilarious. Honestly, good luck with Reform. We tried.

Hopefully Farage is better with the facts than he was with Brexit and the NHS. Best of luck.

Far Right and Far Left - there is no difference between them

they don't accept any opinions other than their own
they are intolerant and bigoted
they like the sound of their own voice far too much
they lack the ability to appreciate nuance
they are complete bores and I'm glad I don't inhabit their world because it's utterly miserable and oppressive. Give me peace of mind any day.

I think it’s hilarious . The left have always championed the poor , vulnerable , disadvantaged when they were quiet and didn’t disagree with them . Now this group has come out as reform voters and are sick of the culture wars they are suddenly , thick , stupid and racist . The left have never learnt that throwing nasty personal insults is not the way to encourage people to their agenda .

The left’s agenda is literally about helping those people. It’s not the left that’s pushing them away, it’s the right wing brainwashing that that’s what the left are saying and doing. But as I’ve said before, I think we’ll need to hit rock bottom before that’s realised and possibly not even then. The ship is going down with the left and right wing onboard with the right-wing rich looking on from the shore. Not even looking on, they’ll be laughing and playing golf.

The thing that makes the left worse is their hypocrisy

They preach and virtue signal, then when it comes to it, they are just nasty

A test you can do for yourself on this is to say to people you support Trump, or even that you "don't mind Trump". Just see what awful nastiness you receive.

I was on the left for most of my life but I grew up and the right weren't particularly nasty about that - more piss taking, But WOW, the moment you say you support conservative values, you won't believe what happens. People won't talk to you, call you all sorts of insults - it is unbelievable.

It is also why there is a 'silent majority' - a well known phenomenon that people on the right stay quiet as it is the left that are the awful nasty and vicious lot

I couldn’t agree more

The left have never been and will never be as bad as the right. Their values are completely different.

Have never been? The lesson of
history is that humanity is capable of absolute horror from all ideological perspectives, but never more so than when certain they have virtue on their side.

TooBigForMyBoots · 17/09/2025 18:52

DryAndBalmy · 17/09/2025 18:42

The left (or ‘The Far Left’, as they should be called since they call anyone who is NOT left ‘The Far Right’ are far worse.

There are plenty of "poor" not protesting, and plenty of "rich". And the people protesting have never been particularly quiet. They are not one and the same.

The left champions social equality, and policies which they feel would acheive this (along with many other things), this would benefit "the poor". You can believe someone is a racist, and still believe in social equality, the right to freedom, healthcare and education etc for those people. You can belive people you deem racist are entitled to equality. You are conflating a political view with a personal opinion on an individual person. No leftist person has said "I believe in a socialist society but not for those racists"

I don't believe we need to pussy foot around racists, especially in a social space.

Jamesblonde2 · 17/09/2025 18:35

I’m not talking about the make up of communities but the way the left are insulting these people who seem to be predominantly from working class communities . I would suggest the majority of the left are now from middle class Islington enclaves with their constant virtual signaling and the finances to not be worried about this governments mishandling of the economy .

No. The left are calling out racism, they are not attacking the working classes.

There are plenty of middle class racists. Look at Farage, for example.

There are also plenty of working class people who utterly reject racism.

It is those on the right who are trying to characterise this as some sort of new class war, but we all know that Farage and his cronies don't give a shit about the poor.

MsTamborineMan · 17/09/2025 18:24

hamstersarse · 17/09/2025 17:55

How about d) You want to stop illegal immigration

It's that simple for many people who went on the march.

Do you not want to stop illegal immigration?

That would be covered by point c

hattie43 · 17/09/2025 18:20

BeHappySloth · 17/09/2025 18:04

The mistake that you're making is to assume that all of the poor, the vulnerable and the disadvantaged are racist reform types. That's pretty offensive, don't you think?

It is certainly true that Reform is drawing a lot of support from disadvantaged communities because many people in those communities are more vulnerable to manipulation. However, being poor and having morals aren't mutually exclusive and there are plenty of people in those disadvantaged communities who are utterly disgusted by the lurch to the right.
