Two questions about yesterday's march

I'm sure that someone can help me on this, but why does [whoever gives permission for marches in london] allow 2 conflicting marches on the same day? It seems that keeping the marches appart was the biggest problem.
From the news, it looks as though Elon Musk was broadcast from the screen on the BFI. Why did they give permission for it, as it was basically an incitement to overthrow the government)?

Your forgetting how anti-English the Scots are - and then there’s the sectarianism-really annoys me the holier than thou pretence of the Scots. So inclusive?? Really?

My family is Scottish going back many generations but I was born in England and have an English accent. After decades travelling in Scotland, we have now retired to a Scottish city. We’ve been made to feel extremely welcome. No apparent anti-English sentiment?

Sausagenbacon · 15/09/2025 09:54

thank you Redburnett. My mistake.

Google AI says:
Reports from September 2025 indicate that Elon Musk delivered a speech via video link at a far-right rally in London organized by activist Tommy Robinson. However, sources do not specify who provided the screen for the video link.

As of September 2025, there is no evidence of Elon Musk delivering a speech at a British Film Institute (BFI) event. The association in your query likely stems from recent reports about his controversial virtual address at a large far-right rally in London on Saturday, September 13, 2025, which was unrelated to the BFI.

You are right, you do

Yes great answer. That told me!

I dont need "evidence". I just need a brain. We have only one law in this country that applies to all of us and is (mostly) made by an elected Parliament. If you are calling for sharia law you are calling for a different legal system based on a religion dictat and which is not made by our elected government.

You are right, you do

Lifeinthepit · 15/09/2025 08:45

StewkeyBlue · 14/09/2025 20:34

@Lifeinthepit can you please link to evidence that Sharia law calls for the overthrow of the existing law and government?

Thanks for the replies.
Fwiw I disliked the matches for Palestine, which seemed to be occurring on almost a weekly basis.
But why did the authorities allow a counter demonstration on the same day? Given that clashes between the groups caused the disruption, when not make the counter marchers protest a week later?

I agree that it was horrific the way London was invaded by people waving far-right symbols, replacing our traditional Palestinian flags.

AI slop

Donttellempike · 14/09/2025 23:16

sciaticafanatica · 14/09/2025 18:11

But how do you know I wasn’t there?
so many pissed abusive people but yet less arrests than the Notting Hill carnival.
what about people being scared when pro Palestine marches are allowed or do they not matter??
freedom of speech is allowed, not agreeing with it is allowed. Being scared is allowed.
scaremongering is just ridiculous

Recounting a lived experience is not scaremongering.

It does seem odd , a patriot getting a foreigner to call for the end of parliamentary democracy by means of a violent revolution. I suppose he just figures if it turns into a shooting war he can just fly off to the sun , using his foreign passport?

Don't go to America though Tommy. Place is a nuthouse. Somewhere nice and safe in the EU , much better.

If America will let him in after he tried to slip in there using a false passport.

StewkeyBlue · 14/09/2025 20:34

Lifeinthepit · 14/09/2025 08:31

Do you think Elon Musk should be banned from speaking?

It would also mean anyone calling for sharia law should be banned as that too calls for the overthrow of the existing law and system of government.

@Lifeinthepit can you please link to evidence that Sharia law calls for the overthrow of the existing law and government?

You do all get your knickers in a twist over a march. I don't remember this caring over the Palestine ones. No wonder so many suffer from anxiety.
It's not my politics either, but I don't care who marches. Besides, it's a fundamental British right to protest.

I do care when people sit in the road causing problems, throw paint everywhere, break into to military bases, chuck statues in a dock or set fire to a British flag.
Now who would do a thing like that!

Do you care about violence against the police as well out of interest?

sciaticafanatica · 14/09/2025 19:53

@Poppingby no one is condoning anything.
its freedom of speech and freedom of choice.
people will attend or people won’t.
its how it is!

TheNoonBell · 14/09/2025 19:53

If a Labour politician can stand on a high street in front of a baying crowd with a loud speaker explicitly calling for his political enemies to have their throats slit and be found not guilty in court then Elon's comments barely register on the incitement scale.

YelloDaisy · 14/09/2025 19:44

Poppingby · 14/09/2025 11:38

All marches are not the same. Scots stick up for Scottish independence not whiteness. If you don't condone violence you should not condone these fascist marches because everything about them is violent from the language to actions. However you'll note they were treated the same as other marches. It was allowed and it was policed. The demonstrators were the ones who made it different with their violence and by preaching hatred.

Your forgetting how anti-English the Scots are - and then there’s the sectarianism-really annoys me the holier than thou pretence of the Scots. So inclusive?? Really?

atotalshambles · 14/09/2025 19:44

I don't really like any of these marches. That Yaxley Lennon guy is awful and have been on one of the Palestine marches and some of the people on that were definitely anti-semitic rather than pro-helping the people in Palestine. It seems to be the way of the world atm- everyone is polarised.

Hoppinggreen · 14/09/2025 19:36

Lifeinthepit · 14/09/2025 18:41

Why not? There's nothing wrong with the flag of your country or marching in support of your country unless you are English, it seems. Which is most of the population of the UK.

The event was organised by a racist, therefore anyone who went is happy to be associated with that as far as I am concerned

Womblingmerrily · 14/09/2025 18:54

We can acknowledge that you felt scared @Poppingby

But you cannot generalise that to say that everyone felt scared. It is a personal opinion and it only counts for one person.

Other people are entitled to have different thoughts and feelings about this march and others and to discuss that.

You using insulting language about people that disagree with you is not convincing me to listen to you.

Lifeinthepit · 14/09/2025 18:41

Hoppinggreen · 14/09/2025 17:25

Whatever words you use to describe the March yesterday "nice" shouldn't be one of them

Answering your questions, was it Black Lives matter that threw statues into a river and defaced others? I could be wrong though.

Was it Palestinian Action that broke into a military base, caused millions of pounds worth of damage and attacked someone with a sledgehammer ? Cd be wrong though.

Was it Stop oil who caused damage to art and hold up ambulances? Cd be wrong though.

I could go on. I guess if those marches are allowed then ....?

sciaticafanatica · 14/09/2025 18:27

@Poppingbythose people will vote . Not overthrow government ( dramatically overeating again).
freedom of speech is allowed.
do I agree with yesterday. No
do I think it should have gone ahead . Yes

AnotherFive · 14/09/2025 18:26

Poppingby · 14/09/2025 18:17

Were you there?

These people are ultimately about overthrowing our government for fascist aims, as Elon musk very clearly said in his 'rallying' speech yesterday, displayed on the ?BFI screens. If you don't find that scary then you're not paying attention or you don't find fascist uprising a frightening prospect.

Clearly if you were there, you were choosing to ignore the thuggish behaviour that was intimidating ordinary people all over the place as well as the speeches. I don't especially agree with the Gaza marches as it happens but they do not spill over into the whole city for hours like they were yesterday. And they don't shout abuse at ordinary passers-by either in my experience.

Less arrests than Notting Hill carnival where stabbings have occurred in the past with many arrests.. Less scary than the Pro Palestinian marches? Maybe some people found those scary too, just because you don't find them scary others clearly did.

AnotherFive · 14/09/2025 18:22

Poppingby · 14/09/2025 10:08

Had you been in London yesterday you might have felt differently. It was a fucking terrifying display of barely contained violent racism. You should mind.

The Pro Palestine marches with the chanting and songs for the Houthis etc were pretty terrifying too. Imagine being a British Jewish person with that.
