Two questions about yesterday's march

Exactly- I mean they must all be uneducated, manual labour, racist and far right - well at least that's what my left wing progressive bubble tells me what to think.

Why can't working class people just be meek down trodden victims of the evil western capitalist system like they're supposed to be, looking to the likes of us liberal university educated and enlightened types to save them.

@ThisFastScroller why do you find the national flag revolting but the Palestinian flag acceptable? I’m not much of a nationalist and don’t wave flags but it’s weird to hate people in their own country waving their own flag. You know that many of the marchers are protesting about just that - being told to be ashamed of their country by the intolerant omnicause weekly marchers who want to disrupt the country.

Revulsion and curiosity...

Of course they aren't; trying to appear stupider than you are is rarely a good gambit.

Whilst their manufacture might well be the same, there is of course a difference in how those flags are being used. It's quite a subtle difference, I'll grant you, but it is there...

Have to laugh the cheap flags jibe but always aimed at the Union or St George's flags. Nobody ever calls the Palestinian flags tacky. Maybe they're all made of silk and hand stitched by virgins.

That's absolutely true; it wasn't full of violent racists.

In fact, only a proportion of the proportionately tiny gathering were actually violent; the rest were just your standard passive racists who parroted slogans they'd seen on social media, or read in the Daily Heil, whist they staggered along the streets of my multicultural city, drinking heavily and waving cheap Union flags they'd purchased online.

What a great idea .A march for the ordinary who just want a quiet life...no drama...no egos...no hatred for anyone with a different opinion.

I don’t think the Unite the Kingdom march was full of violent racists. Most people are middle ground and reasonable and unlikely to be so passionate about a cause that they will organise a march so it will always be the extremists who do the organising.
I think the tired and reasonable majority saw a chance to protest against the constant swell of Islamism and antisemitism that is building in this country and played out constantly in the Gaza marches.
There is far too much pressure on free speech. Whether it’s lefties cancelling things or Islamists losing their mind when anyone disrespects their religion.
Wish there was a march for people who don’t march. We could have banners saying ‘calm down and be reasonable’ and tell the police we’ll be no trouble.

There hasn’t been a constant flow of a million people coming here every year for those two thousand years. It happened on one or two big occasions, the collapse of the Roman Empire and the attempts by Charlemagne to rebuild it further north. Nor did most of our people invade full lands elsewhere. There were never many even of the British elite in India and China.

The country is already full. Overpopulated and with not enough room to feed and house those already here. The numbers of people you are overproducing in your own countries are not our doing.

You now, protesting against immigration when you are from a country whose history, culture, and people are the result of two thousand years of invasions and settlement from foreign nations and which spent the last five centuries busy colonising the rest of the world is beyond ironic.

I do. I care about a police woman being
clouted with a sledgehammer by a lunatic lefty protesting about some Palestinian cause. Imagine the horror of a sledgehammer being swung at you. He should be up for attempted murder.

Well, that's something we can certainly all agree on.

There were two marches because the Unite the Kingdom match had been "booked" with the police for the 17th May quite some time ago. Then at a later date the pro Palestinian match applied for the same day.

Rather than be portrayed as being biased "sorry Pro Palestinian March" can you do another day, the police agreed to run both on the same day but keep them apart.

Total cost of policing these marches was £4 to £5 million.

There were two organised protest marches.
Surely to hold an organised protest it should be essential to have to be able to provide proof of having adequate insurance to compensate for any damage to persons and property.

They should both have been banned, as there’s enough chaos with FA cup final day.

Two idiot groups trying to yell at each other, at vast cost and aggravation. 🙄

Plenty where I am, unfortunately.

It’s that old problem of how do we tolerate the intolerant, in a time when the centre ground appears to be vanishing and there is no good faith to an ideal beyond personal power.

But that doesn’t make for an interesting story does it?

And me. It wasn’t even mildly terrifying in London. It was two groups shouting. That’s it. 🤷‍♀️
