Right-wing American Pied Piper Charlie Kirk assassinated

I see a thread was started in Chat, but it's obviously more appropriate here. I've been in an American forum where someone wondered if it's of international interest.

Right now it's so early that there's no predicting what will develop, whether it will snowball into something catastrophic. Oddly, after a few hours, it's still not known for sure if they caught the shooter, which is strange, as they supposed knew where the shot came from. I'm already running across some odd conspiracy theories.

If you look at every political assassination or attempt in America, the vast, vast majority of them were perpetrated by people with right wing beliefs.

Even the person who supposedly shot at Trump was a registered republican.

Yes, thank you!

A bleak day for left wing politics. Their veil has slipped in no uncertain terms.

I think we can now all agree that the left are a huge risk to society. This cannot continue.

Excuse me? Are you assuming that the shooter is a Democrat? No reason to believe that, since Democrats don't have a track record of killings.

Yes, I wondered about that.

Can you explain, @MsAmerica?

(I guess there's no way to include two quotes at once?)

That was a sudden creative inspiration. Kirk's goal was to get kids to follow him, and I suddenly thought of the story of the Pied Piper.

Lots of theories running around on social media re this. Ranging from it’s a sniper who shot him, the men behind were giving hand signals. He’s not actually dead that’s a blood pack and the shooter was in the crowd/roof and just a civilian

The theories I keep seeing is that it was a set-up to distract from the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

Which I consider to be pretty bizarre.

We are told that words are literal violence. Any one who doesn't agree that 100% with the ideology are Nazis/ fascists.

This is how TRAs justify it.

But i see the conspiracy theories are already starting.

I didn’t say anything even vaguely related to a conspiracy theory.

If the US tras are anything like the tras in the UK then no, because threatening violence seems to be the tra thing. This is just the next level and because of all the banners I've seen in the UK news threatening violence (decapitate a terf, the only good terf is a dead terf etc etc) it doesn't surprise me at all.

It's a very sad state of affairs imo.

I wonder if it was his views on this that got him killed.

Am I the only one who finds it bizarre that all of a sudden there’s a spate of “pro trans” killings?

The bullets are engraved with pro trans messages.
Ammo used in Charlie Kirk shooting had ‘trans and antifascist messages’ - what we know about the hunt for the killer | The Independent https://share.google/ficBNLnMyDuGUqyhz

It's a terrible thing when anyone is killed through mindless violence, particularly when it could be prevented through adequate legislation and enforcement, and a move away from hate speech. BUT - Charlie Kirk's death is a direct result of a culture he advocated for and was paid for doing. He even said himself that having the Second Amendment was worth gun violence. He just believed it would never happen to him.

Three children were killed in a school shooting today in Colorado - yet another unspeakable tragedy that has received shockingly little attention. At the same time, it’s deeply disturbing to see a man who openly championed gun rights being honoured, while children continue to be sacrificed to the grotesque illusion that unrestricted access to firearms equals freedom. To deny the connection between figures like CK and the epidemic of gun violence in the U.S. is an act of extreme naivety and dangerous ignorance.

Some people's comments on MN still have the power to shock.

lljkk · 11/09/2025 14:19

afaik, no one but the shooter knows why they murdered CK.
Presumably killed because of something he said or did, but we don't even know which thing he said or did that motivated the shooter.
Perfectly possible he was killed for not advocating for gun rights ENOUGH in some person's opinion.

no person should be murdered killed for having an opinion you disagree with.
Fixed that for PP.

No, sorry I should have been more clear, I was referring to the thousands of jeering, taunting and celebrating comments on social media.. including on his widows instagram account. Just breathtaking cruelty.

Nobody has been arrested and nobody knows the politics or motive behind the shooting.

i follow the director of FBI on twatter and he said an arrest has been made. Nothing further. Another video shows an elderly white man being arrested at the event but god knows.

Pied piper? You insufferable person.

That's very unnecessary. I didn't know much about Charlie Kirk before today, but he was obviously influential in right wing circles which is what the OP was referring to.

Katievic82 · 11/09/2025 12:13

I'm from England and I can assure you there are lots of us here gutted about Charlie Kirk! We also have a very clear divide between left and right wing politics here and us conservatives saw Charlie as the voice of logic and reason. I've been crying about him today and for his daughters who will have woken up without him this morning. I'm so sad.

JudithDunbar · 11/09/2025 11:27

I think this will have far-reaching consequences. The ugly, rotten, dark underbelly of extreme liberalism is being exposed. I do not refer to the every day people whose political ideals lean left, but the cult that has grown rampant in recent years, fed by the media and social media, and is truly a cancer on society.

How about we wait and see if anyone is arrested before assigning an ideology to them.

Then you aren't looking very hard.

It's you who aren't looking very hard, Trump has paid respects to a man murdered in cold blood.

Try looking on TikTok, or you could simply look on MN

Someone on another thread said “one less Trump supporter” .

A terrible thing to say.
Trump says terrible things too - I'm thinking of him mocking the disabled journalist.
Nobody is perfect. Some people say terrible things.
You can't judge everyone by the behaviour of other people. There is more good than bad.

@lifeturnsonadime Where has anyone on the left been intolerant on this thread? All I'm reading is 'I disagree with what you say but I defend your right to say it'?

I'm talking about the wider opinion. On other threads on mumsnet and in the wider media there have been some abhorrent posts and opinions.

So by 'on here' I mean on Mumsnet not limited to this thread.

Edited for clarity

lifeturnsonadime · 11/09/2025 11:42

'Words are literal violence'

'Anyone who disagrees with my opinion is a fascist/ nazi.'

We are living in times of intolerance on both sides of the political divide.

No one deserves to be assassinated for their political views. These acts are the opposite of democracy and run counter to freedom of speech.

Having been politically to the left for the majority of my life (and now politically homeless), I find the intolerance of some of the left wing posters on here totally shocking.

What happened to 'I disagree with what you say but I defend your right to say it'?
