It's so they can pretend to be virtuous. When in fact socialist governments are terrible for poor people as they wreck the economy needed to provide tax to pay to support the poor. There's also a reason austerity came in. Same reason Thatcher won the election ie on the back of Labour governments. They always ruin the economy.

The economy is what matters though and they are on a seriously sticky wicket there. If they are going to make difficult decisions the least they can do is stick to them. The WFA was an unbelievable car crash of a situation. The benefits conversation all round is a massive fuck up. They can’t please everyone, so they are settling for pleasing no-one!

One thing we should be grateful for I suppose is that Starmer hasn't (yet) decided to lock up people that criticise his government. And that the press are still allowed to report on his many failures.

We shouldn't be complacent that this situation will last though, given the armed arrest of Graham Linehan for old tweets.

My point was more that the media is fixated on giving farage airtime and and 'putting the boot in' for labour as a PP said, and not giving due airtime to the positive things happening in the country -regardless of their origins.

The chancellor is destroying what left of the economy & Labour list me when they chose to target pensioners and people with disabilities but failed to regulate greedy utility companies and make big corporations pay their fair share of tax.

Coming into power and going on about how bad the economy was and not realising this before coming into power was a shocker.
1 They had power to see the books beforehand
2 if they say how bad things are people believe them and will not spend/ invest more or will avoid the UK.

Now the ongoing narrative is how bad things are - we are talking ourselves into failure.

There was the awful budget that lit national insurance up and impacted jobs rather then taking the hit and putting income tax up 1%.

There was the disastrous mess about pip.

So far I am not unpressed and frankly really really scared that at the next election Reform will get in. If that happens any financial issues under Labour will pale in comparisons - this is the worry.

I am non political and float from party to party but I usually look for a party that is central. If Labour mess this up we have the prospect of an extreme government and that is disturbing.

The difference is that JH was not always first to hurl insults at others doing the same thing, baying for resignations and calling people scum.
It's the rank hypocrisy that's the issue.

Because the last lot were so much better 14 years of austerity and not lining their mates pockets with multi million pound contracts.

But it’s pointless complaining about them, or about the press, if the government you support is talentless and incompetent. This government is talentless and incompetent.

The freebies, street fighting, tax issues, tenant evicting and all round hypocrisy of this government just provide focal points for reporting and for voters’ eye rolling. But the underlying problem is uselessness.

I'm more disappointed than angry. I'm a lifelong supporter and member of the Labour Party so want them to succeed. 14 years of Tories has been tough so it's going to be a long, hard slog to put things right. I just want them pull their fingers out!
Labour supporters have to face reality, welfare costs are killing our economy and like it or not, it has to be sorted. We need those who are able, to work, and we must provide the assistance to enable it. We also need the rich to pay their fair share and feel proud to do so.

Six o clock news the other day was all negative then 3/4 of the way through the broadcast Rita Chakrabati reeled off the fact England had 30 free hours of childcare, Wales teenagers had £1 buses and Scotland had scrapped peak rail fares.
Just half a minute dedicated to all that positivity. It was weird.

I think she was always going to have to resign but agree about Jeremy Hunt. He admitted not following money laundering regulations brought in by the government he was in the cabinet of, and blamed his accountant. I don’t remember that bloody resignation, in fact he was promoted to foreign secretary a couple of months after the story - why wasn’t he criticised for not going above and beyond to ensure he was fully compliant?

(There’s no suggestion he actually laundered money. But he didn’t follow the rules)

I feel really sad that Angela Rayner has resigned. Loads of Tory minsters did far worse (think Jeremy Hunt forgetting he owned 7 let flats to the tax man) and they were not forced out because the media is so Tory biased. But the tabloid press and the BBC loath Angela Rayner and have had a witch hunt over her for years, not to mention the hate crimes she receives over social media. I'm not surprised she has caved in under all that hate.
