…..disappointed and angry right now? I’m still, and always will be, a Labour supporter-it’s the party that most closely aligns with my political, philosophical and moral beliefs. But bloody hell, surely the least we can expect is basic competence?

No because she did what any of us would have done in the same circumstances and it was avoidance not evasion. Saw a solicitor speaking saying he has processed this arrangement for many non politician clients and it’s legal

This is wrong. There's no point in spreading misinformation.

Labour gets a far easier ride off the press than they should do.

Similar economic situations under a different government were reported very differently.

Two completely contradictory sentences. The second is correct. The previous government was given far more latitude by the mainstream media. As far as I remember none of them pointed out the absolute folly of £10 billion of unfunded NI cuts.

Comprehension not your strong suit?

I think what disappoints me most are the constant comms failures and their apparent inability to craft a simple national narrative of redemption - one that names the problems and the choices we have to make to solve them, and why it will be worth the sacrifice .

I just don't think it's that fucking hard! 'these things, A B and C, are what makes Britain great. But these are precisely the things that we're in danger of losing. Both the Tories and Reform are backed by the Dark Forces of Global Capital, who will be delighted when we lose A, B and C forever. So we've got some hard decisions to make - but if we make them together, we can rebuild the Britain that made us all proud.'

Available at reasonabe hourly rates Keir.

They've tried 'difficult decisions' already. And 'it'll be hard but get better'. The trouble is their policies are bad so the lines won't wash.

This. Labour absolutely Could Do Better, but the way that the DM and it’s ilk are going for it is beyond ridiculous.
I genuinely fear that Reform will get in next time, and we’ll all be fucked.

What goes around comes around. The DM went for it with party gate and other stuff, Labour are just finding out what it's like.

Truss pales into insignificance with where we are now with Labour

No I really don’t think she does.

I’m more disappointed and angry as to how the press are constantly having a go.

Theyve inherited a nightmare. And there are continuing problems.

Im sick of Farages face and im sick of the press sticking the boot in.

Yes, left wing governments tend to get hammered by the media on economics where right wing ones get an easier ride. The same is true in the US.

Labour lack ability and self awareness. That’s a dangerous combination.

Well I think the people, policies and comms are all pretty awful!

Having said that, since Boris purged the Tories of anyone decent, they don’t have much to offer either these days.

I completely agree with you. It’s incredibly frustrating. I, too, am available and would happily work for nothing except my train fare!

The comms isn't the problem, the policies and people are! Blaming the comms is easy scapegoating to deflect from the main culprits ie the leadership.
Do you know how much taxpayer money they have spent on comms so far?

Are we now on Phase 3 of a government, merely 14 months after taking power? That's not a comms issue, it's a competency issue.

And Blair's WMD was virtuous?
There's also a reason austerity came in. Same reason Thatcher won the election ie on the back of Labour governments. They always ruin the economy.

Time for this again.

Cameron did have a choice over Brexit, there was no need to have a referendum on it and certainly not such a bloody stupid one.

I don’t gloss over WMD, it was a terrible error of judgment by Blair supported by cowards, opportunists and fools in the Cabinet, but I don’t judge the entirety of New Labour by that. Also, yes they made mistakes, some of which I thought were mistakes at the time, some of which I’ve come to see as mistakes with time - but show me a government that doesn’t make mistakes and get things wrong.

EasternStandard · 06/09/2025 12:04

Lifeinthepit · 06/09/2025 09:42

Of course they do. And everyone knows it.

Labour supporters just coach everything in overdramatic terms "austerity!!" "killing disabled people!!" "rich entrepreneurs stole the shirts from the backs of poor people on benefits!". It's so they can pretend to be virtuous. When in fact socialist governments are terrible for poor people as they wreck the economy needed to provide tax to pay to support the poor. As shown currently.

Yep exactly. At least most are seeing the reality of Labour.

Cameron and Osborne brought in austerity because they could. It wasn’t needed at the time and created a lot of the conditions which are having an impact now. The early 2000s really weren’t like the 1970s.

Cameron also gave us Brexit.

Tony Blair was wrong on Iraq, but he was right on a lot of things. A lot of good was done by the Blair and Brown governments.

Like selling off the gold and bleeding the coffers dry?
I can't believe you gloss over WMD and the impact that had.

Oh FYI I voted for Blair's Labour too but it really opened my eyes to the fact that Left are as unscrupulous as the Right. There is no leg to stand on morally for the Left to proclaim themselves superior to the Right
