Any Labour supporters just so…

…..disappointed and angry right now? I’m still, and always will be, a Labour supporter-it’s the party that most closely aligns with my political, philosophical and moral beliefs. But bloody hell, surely the least we can expect is basic competence?

I'm sick to the back teeth of the right wing media in this country.
America is aghast at lack of free speech, broken Britain.

Now to the other side of the pond, National Guard on the streets, ice (Trumps boot boys) School Shootings, mass shootings weekly, Journalist's banned from the White House if any tricky questions arise, anything the Trump administration doesn't like being written about them is branded fake news.
Things maybe far from perfect but it's not the basket case that certain sections of the media are making out.

SisterTeatime · 06/09/2025 14:53

@thestudio if by obvious BLiar types you mean me, yes my political stance probably makes me more or less a Blairite, I’m not ashamed of that.

Im disappointed in this government. For the first time in a General Election I didn’t vote Labour. They lost my trust and respect with their disdain for women. And to be honest I don’t think they truly represent ‘Labour’ - working people - in a way that works for the 21st century.

I agree with you that Keir is not a storyteller and that their comms are rubbish. Nobody knows what they actually stand for. That is a comms failure as much as a policy one, surely?

Even you must understand that I am knowingly speaking at the level of cliche, since the necessity of doing so is literally my point?

Your heavy irony is very Sir Bufton Tufton / Roger from the golf club / mein host / Woking Rotary Club so at least we can all see you coming I guess.

You do know that Labour already use cult language, right?
1.emotionally loaded language
2.Them and us... used to set the scene for each new act of fiscal self-sabotage in the form of new taxes
3.Thought terminating cliches . The number of times I hear "inherited a mess" to stop any criticism of specific Labour outcomes!

It doesn't work once you're in power, because reality still bites and people see the difference between what you say and how their life actually plays out.

Labour don't need to change their language, they need to stop fucking up.

TBH, I think you’re just talking drivel.

Ah touché.

SatsumaDog · 06/09/2025 14:01

Not disappointed no. They are performing in exactly the way I thought they were. They have shown themselves to be liars over and over again. Rayner got what she deserved but still she cited the fact she was resigning over the ‘strain on her children’ rather than the real reason which was she had been found out for being a liar and a cheat. Good riddance and now for Reeves the incompetent and spineless Starmer next.

What are these shadowy forces? And how do they hurt poor old Sir Keir’s reputation?

I just want to repeat that my analysis is not aimed at you - I'm not interested in relitigating Labour vs Tories with DM BTLers.

I'm responding to the OP and people like her.

Why call @DenizenOfAisleOfShame a 'DM BTLer'? It's not really relevant and your story that you're talking about needs to grab more than the most loyal Labour voter, they have such low rating you need people wavering in the middle.

thestudio · 06/09/2025 13:41

Well, being a poor storyteller is fundamentally not being a storyteller is it?

He doesn't really understand the emotional level that the story needs to be pitched

He wont' name either the problems or the Enemy for fear of being picked up on the detail and accused of hypocrisy or of attacking the British themselves.

He doesn't understand that you've got to go large or go home.

He doesn't understand that it all comes down to emotion.

People for example could probably face the fact that they've been behaving like bigots if they felt

a. fully forgiven and welcomed back into the fold
b. not really to blame - their fears have been exploited by Shadowy Forces and it's no wonder they fell for it when times are tough.

Tbf it did get them into power it's just that people can see through the lines after all. He has chosen emotion too just the wrong stuff.

I think you need to go back to the drawing board on the Evil Shadowy Forces stuff btw! It's hard to understand and not connected to much.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 06/09/2025 13:33

Hmmm. I’m not sure where the dark, shadowy etc forces went to in your reply. But hey ho.

As for lies, half-truths and tall stories, Labour’s been telling them constantly. It doesn’t seem to have worked so far.

He is a story teller just a very bad one. 'Tool maker' 'smash the gangs' 'difficult decisions' you name it he's used it.

They're are all surface level lines that people can see through.

I really wish they’d get a better PR team! It’s cringeworthy. Kier has very little charisma. He needs help now!

"A Dalek with a head cold" as described by the Spectator which is hilarious and spot on and also at the same time, depressing.

But that's my whole point - that is what's required now.

There's a reason the Tories and Reform pitch things as they do.

The population is badly educated and lacks critical thinking skills; it's accustomed to consume ideas at the level of fairy tale or action movie.

Lots will be outraged at that, I'm sure but that's the reality (and one reason why those of us who broadly share Labour's values want them to succeed is to be around long enough to change that fact.)

It doesn't matter what's true (though this message broadly is). What matters is how it feels.

Keir is an administrator and a 20th century man, a utilitarian and a rationalist. The 21st century doesn't give a fuck about those things. It rewards liars and story tellers. It's better to be the latter.

The state teaching establishment is broadly left wing in the UK . So presumably to blame for the population being badly educated and lacking critical thinking skills.

None of this is to say that policy doesn't matter - of course it does. But it matters far more to people like us, who are disappointed in Labour (not talking about the obious BLiar types on this thread) than to Undecideds or Red Wallers.

If the Tories and now the rise of Reform have taught us anything it's that your policies can be anything you want as long as have a strong narrative.

I don't understand how this government has consistently failed to see that. Even I don't know what their narrative is and I've voted for them all my life.

It sounds like you want Labour’s PR team to be staffed by David Icke, Mad-Eye Moody and Professor Van Helsing.

They didn't do either of those well enough. Their message wasn't simple and it wasn't sufficiently optimistic. No-one wants to make sacrifices unless they're given a very clear vision of what's they'll gain in return - and who the Baddies are.

Labour has failed to explain simply - literally in terms like The Forces of Global Capital or Shadowy Financial Interests - whose interests the Tories and Reform are promoting.

Keep it very simple. Construct an 'Us' of positive nostalgic values. Pit that 'Us' against a shadowy 'Them' of vested interests who cash in when We lose. Rally and unite Us against these Dark Forces, towards a Bright Future where things Get Better and we're Proud Britons. Churchillian basically.

If I could say one thing to their Vision team it would be that Labour could and should own 'positive nostalgic values'. Everyone's too young to remember the real past now, so they could really construct it as they wish it was - community, solidarity, helping each other out, standing together as we've always done against the shadowy forces of exploitation who've made themselves unimaginably rich by crushing our standard of living and turning us against one other.

1 word: Blackrock.

I appreciate the effort but no I don't think this will fly. For a start Labour need global capital as much as anyone. If anything some see them as more tied up in globalism eg WEF as below.

It's not a comms issue, it's a policy one.
