Reagan is widely believed to have had Alzheimer's (which was covered up by his associates) for at least some of the time he was in the White House. I wonder what we will find out about Trump's mental condition once he's out of office.

I don't think he looks as if he has lost weight since; if anything he looks larger than he did two and a half years ago (especially round the ankles).

Also he was an embarrassment at the Club World Cup. First he kept the original trophy in the Oval Office, FIFA made a replica. Then he pocketed a medal which should only been given to players and staff. Then he was on the podium when Chelsea received the replica trophy. Could see players, especially Cole Palmer with that ‘WTF is he doing there’ look.

I think other presidents have attacked the democracy America wants to symbolise. They have tried to subvert the rules by which they were elected, they have initiated bloody ideological wars, they have allowed the 'three letter agencies' and government scientists to commit crimes for their office. They have been sexually incontinent and unable to understand briefings without pictures. They've sided with racists and never been female.

This is not to say the U.S.A. is bad, it isn't. I don't support Trump more or less than other American presidents, I'm not American. I'm an observer and I'm interested in how these people are represented.

Genuinely keen for examples of other presidents looking to dismantle the democratic system in the same way?

I hold no admiring brief for all other POTUSes. There are some awful people on the list.

Does differently? He’s trampled on the constitution, incited an insurgency and behaves utterly inappropriately in both his terms of office. He’s made it known that one of his aims in office is to make serious amounts of money for his family and it’s a sign of how far adrift from norms the US now is that this corruption barely registered. He’s a convicted criminal.

I suspect quite a few previous Presidents have behaved very badly in their private lives. We know some of some of it. But politically he is unprecedented, and he is supported in the White House by the creators of Project 2025, who would like to upend American democracy.

He's obese by BMI, but not - as per the original post I responded to - morbidly so. People who don't like him tend to exaggerate the obesity and have negative emotions about his perceived bad health, which they attribute to his own actions e.g. his reported fast food diet. Perhaps that implies a moral failing which he now embodies.

I'm interested in the fury sometimes directed at Trump's body. Not to mention his vulgar tastes. I think the pattern in which Trump is disliked is interesting: I wonder if he actually does or thinks anything different to the long gallery of previous American presidents and similarly powerful men or if he outrages because the bad stuff seems to be on the surface.

What do you believe he weighs and how do you know?

I wish Axel Rudukana was dead, or better, had never been born. But this has nothing to do with Trump.

Similarly, i am glad that the Moors murderers are dead, and wish they had never been born.

But none of these vile people are in power over a large country, and influencing the whole world. Trump is. That's why we're more preoccupied with him.

He's not healthy though. According to the white house he has chronic vein insufficiency. Most commentators have suggested that its more like to be heart failure due to the sheer amount of swelling. He's also showing signs of dementia and if that bulge around his thigh is attached to a catheter he may have kidney disease too.

He lives on McDonald's and diet coke and doesn't exercise so he's a perfect storm for these.

Elsewhere on social media, a nurse commented that the hand bruising will have been caused by an IV used to administer diuretics...Heart failure was the first thing that came to my mind, but - given his age, his kidneys are probably in a bad way too.

When my dad died, we were told that the diuretics administered for heart failure had damaged his kidneys further.

Indeed. That's why everyone paying tax in the US is allowed a vote. Otherwise the whole "rebellion" thing might look a tad hypocritical in years to come.

Yeah, well, we need to remember that the Founding Fathers main interest was .... the Founding Fathers. It's a miracle of spin that the average American ever thought they were the intended recipients of the tax dodgers.
