Do you donate a large proportion of your personal income to humanitarian charities? Do you think anyone who doesn't is evil? (rather than just making a different values choice than you) All he's doing for Medicaid, humanitarian aid and disaster relief is not mandating that all Americans must give. You might disagree with that - politically and as a personal choice - but it seems very extreme to call it evil. He's not actively killing anyone, he's just not mandating charitable giving to all Americans.

(or are you one of those who doesn't realise that every penny of state spending comes from someone's pocket - a real, living, individual taxpayer who has less money to spend as a result)

As for the abortion question - whilst I strongly want any country I or my DD live in to have easy access to contraception and abortion choice, many other people around the world equally strongly believe that is itself evil. It tends to be a cultural value - with each country typically landing one side or the other. But the US is divided quite evenly: with half and half of the country passionately holding opposite values.Trump has actually stayed out of the argument - and pretty much let the country decide - which is democratic at least. (I don't think he really cares either way). It makes me not want to go there - and I'm really sad for young American women - but Trump isn't personally evil for that.

Yes I donate to charities. But federal fiscal policy making by the President is nothing to do with charities.

Ive studied politics and economics at post graduate level so yes, I do understand that tax payers … pay tax Hmm

Medicaid, disaster relief and health care are NOT about “charitable giving”. That is completely the wrong terminology for these provisions.
Stop trying to fudge it by pretending that vast rich economies shouldn’t provide these.

I have a question for Americans on this thread are you like Trump?
I do wonder whether all Americans have the pout mouth or if they talk the same as him. He is their leader after all.

People are dying because of Trump's decision about USAID. Hundreds of thousands of people, a majority of whom are babies and children. I think deliberately causing hundreds of thousands of unpleasant and unnecessary deaths probably comes within the definition of "evil".

As for
(or are you one of those who doesn't realise that every penny of state spending comes from someone's pocket - a real, living, individual taxpayer who has less money to spend as a result)

I assume you are not aware that people in Iowa or Texas or (name a state, most of them suffer natural disasters and need help sometimes) do in fact pay both federal and state taxes? Mind you, as a result of the disasters they may cease to be living.... But they will have been real individuals first.

As will the Americans whose medical assistance has been removed so that they die. They also are taxpayers, in the main.

Edited

And the women who can’t access lifesaving reproductive care.

I think the U.S.A.I.D. thing seems remote to some people but perhaps not so when they realise they were instrumental in managing outbreaks of Ebola in Africa, preventing them getting out of hand across borders. If I were religious I’d say god help us all.

Trump and Kennedy are endangering millions of Americans health

Not to mention terrible impact of global health through cutting USAID

But I see Trump as evil. Withdrawing Medicaid provisions so people will die as they can’t afford to treat their conditions? Evil. Withdrawing humanitarian aid to countries suffering from war etc so people will die? Evil. Overturning rights to abortion/contraception/pregnancy care so more women and newborns will die? Evil. Withdrawing federal disaster relief so people will die? Evil.

He simply doesn’t care about anyone who isn’t rich, white and male. Everyone else he just sees as a burden on him and his buddies money making schemes. God
help us if he gets his hands on the NHS here.

If you’re not angry, you’re not paying attention.

Yes of course they are. But its not expressing dislike or disapproval. It's wishing death on someone like Trump who is certainly not good, but hardly evil. Whereas monsters who slaughter children don't inspire anywhere near the same level of hatred. It's wrong.

Reagan’s appalling handling of the AIDS crisis cost so many lives. He was an awful man.

That's where Mrs Thatcher - whatever you may think - deserves some credit.

When she heard the science - despite her moral and ethical opposition - she followed advice. And the UK led the world in tackling the crisis.

Nixon deliberately engineered the Vietnam war to continue (by pressuring the South Vietnamese into not accepting a peace deal) in order to boost his election chances.

He too has blood on his hands.

JFK reinforced US military involvement in the Vietnam war. He presumably also has blood on his hands. (As well as having got to the White House through his father’s electoral criminality.)

I think he's having a procedure done. Those tweets are not his and that picture today was not convincing

Elvis Costello wrote a song about what he’d do when Maggie died - calked “tramp the dirt down”

The thing is that when they die they leave a legacy of hatred and division that lasts for generations. For example we now have a housing crisis because Thatcher sold housing stock off to private buyers. I remember people I knew from wealthy families buying up the best council houses in prime locations for next to nothing, properties that were worth a bomb on the private market.

Trump has caused thousands and thousands of deaths.

I agree. And he doesn't care. He's only interested in himself.

It could be argued that causing milder suffering to thousands of people is worse. 'Evil' is a slippery concept. Wishing death on someone isn't equivalent to killing someone but it's definitely expressing dislike.

The 240lbs on indictment was 2023, despite his 'official' weight being 215 at the time. His medical this year claims 224. So, I went for the heaviest in my calculation of his BMI.

Which you are taking very seriously. I see now this thread is in 'Politics' but when I responded originally it was a fun title in 'Trending'. Glad to have engaged with you but I should get back to Tattle Life now.

Maybe you should.

I didn't say presidents were or are trying to dismantle the democratic system of America. I said subvert the rules. I don't think America's democratic system has failed or that any president has succeeded in circumventing it, like Richard Nixon didn't get the unlawful third term he plotted.

America's democracy stands or falls by the solidity of its own construction and the will of its citizens. It's either robust or not and if it's robust, Trump will merely become a tubby portrait on the wall with the rest of them. If Donald J Trump has the power to 'dismantle' America's democracy then it was already hopelessly fragile.

But I'm honestly mainly interested in the symbolism of his weight, his comb-over and his gold taps.

I think Trump has absolutely exposed the fragility of the system and how it has been held together by convention, and he shows no sign of stopping in his dismantling of norms. In a way, having his two terms interrupted was a gift to him as it gives him a longer time span to appoint judges, and ferment his supporters, and the US now has a perfect storm of power in all three branches sitting with the same party, which has itself been captured by what was until relatively recently an extreme fringe of the Republicans.

Heathen!

Genuinely keen for examples of other presidents looking to dismantle the democratic system in the same way?

I hold no admiring brief for all other POTUSes. There are some awful people on the list.
