Unbelievable (but not unexpected).

I note that this man was a client of Garden Court Chambers - notorious for choosing to defend “causes” eg deportation of criminals.

If this gentleman was this blameless individual and obviously, as some pps are claiming, utterly innocent, then why bring in this particular hard-hitting law firm ?

He had joined a racist riot.

Drifting OT, but when P J O'Rourke was looking at SCOTUS, he followed a case about flag burning and freedom of speech. One of the aspects SCOTUS had to consider was whether congress had "acted narrowly".

This had the perfect line "So you couldn't be arrested for having a smug look near a burning flag".

Just for a bit of context about UK public order laws and their reach.

remember someone was arrested for having a "Plasticine Action" T-Shirt last week. Presumably because the police "knew what he was really thinking".

Then she said that she knew what it feels like to lose a child.

And that if the remarks she mskes are considered racist - as all concerns about migration are branded - then so be it, since she stands by her political opinions.

Who knew that wanting asylum seekers murdered were now just Political opinions...

One can be against x channel migration & want deportations without calling for people to be killed.

Had she stuck to that, she wouldn't have been jailed.

strawberrybubblegum · 16/08/2025 14:21

No, wanting to deport asylum seekers is a political opinion

Setting light to occupied buildings is a "political opinion"?

Err i've posted what she tweeted..... nothing more.

Yes, you've posted it. And then you keep saying that she called for people to kill asylum seekers and mps - which is absolutely not what the quote says.

Who says he was rioting? Are you saying all the protesters were rioting? He was standing with a placard shouting abuse at police. That's not my definition of rioting.

He had joined a racist riot.

She pleaded guilty to inciting racial hatred and edgangering life.

mrshoho · 16/08/2025 14:16

MiloMinderbinder925 · 16/08/2025 14:11

All the people who took part in the riots were given sentences that also acted as a deterrent. There were riots raging where people were made to feel very unsafe and the police were being attacked. People chose to take part in racist riots and were prosecuted. I think taking part in a racist riot is disgusting.

You're comparing someone throwing milkshake to taking part in a racist riot. Some of these arguments beggar belief.

strawberrybubblegum · 16/08/2025 14:16

She said she didn't care if people set fire to the hotels.

She said to deport the government and politicians alongside asylum seekers.

SerendipityJane · 16/08/2025 14:15

I think LC could have done with better legal advice and gone to trial.

Why ? Her application for appeal rejected that explicitly.

My reading of the LC saga is when she was arrested she made the fatal mistake a lot of the gobbier posters here would and sung like a canary. From that point there was never any walking it back (I wonder how many people here understand the police caution).

Conversely Ricky Jones did not sound off to the police and so was able to marshal a defence which clearly worked.

Having grown up knowing a lot of police officers, I know they are very skilled at engaging with suspects and appearing empathetic. I suspect that when they approached LC she thought they were "sound" and blabbed away.

The above is a lot of supposition. However it then explains the subsequent developments in a fairly consistent manner. I am applying a blend of Hanlons and Occams razor, as always.

“Mass deportation now. Set fire to all the fucking hotels full of the bastards for all I care. While you’re at it, take the treacherous government and politicians with them. I feel physically sick knowing what these families will now have to endure. If that makes me racist, so be it.”

You ve twisted what she actually said.

Connolly was seen as a re offending risk, thats why she didn't get bail, she saw nothing wrong in what she did.

she called upon other people, to murder them ands to kill elected MPs too

No, she didn't. She said she didn't care if people did.

She pleaded Guilty

The difference in treatment started before she pleaded guilty. It started when she was denied bail

Every case has different circumstances. He was made an example of as a deterrent to others. I find it disgusting.

The no bail is bizarre.

strawberrybubblegum · 16/08/2025 14:09

In fact, it started when she was arrested, when people posting similarly hate-filled comments about other groups were not.

Lynch was taking part in a riot, outside a hotel, attacking Police, pretty terrifying for those inside.

He didn't need to there.

Alexandra2001 · 16/08/2025 14:06

Err yet again, thats not what has happened.....

She pleaded Guilty & as a pp has said, she then cannot be found Not Guilty.

Connelly didn't just say she hated asylum seekers, thats probably a common view & one i've read often on FB etc.... she called upon other people, to murder them ands to kill elected MPs too.... we've already had 2 murdered.

She had a long history of racial hatred tweets.

I can only comment on the juries I was on (4 separate cases on 2 occasions) but it was clear people just didn’t want to find someone guilty. One of the women on a jury admitted she knew the bloke was guilty but didn’t want to be responsible for sending someone to prison.

Which is why there is provision for a majority verdict. Not that many on this thread will care.

SerendipityJane · 16/08/2025 14:07

I was surprised to see him found not guilty but can't see how it shows two tier justice/ policing.

There have been many cases - jury trials - where despite my views, the defendant was found guilty. I guess that's life.

The only unifying conclusion all these threads on the Ricky Jones case are arriving at, is that despite it never being taught in schools, the legal system is clearly something everyone is an expert at 😀

I know what you mean, we had the same although he did go to prison.

I think LC could have done with better legal advice and gone to trial. Not sure about the remand part which seems overly severe.

Alexandra2001 · 16/08/2025 14:06

strawberrybubblegum · 16/08/2025 13:54

I don't think there should be a difference dependant in how worthy we think the group being spoken about is. Everyone in the UK is entitled to the same protection by the law: asylum seekers, opinionated middle aged women, paedophiles, Nazis and criminals.

Should someone go to jail for saying online that they hate one of those groups? I don't think so: otherwise the jails would be overflowing. There's a line though, where someone is actually inciting violence - when that line is crossed, it's a crime.

Why are some groups treated as more worthy of protection than others, based on political opinion of how 'worthy' they are.

That's what two tier justice is.
