This migrant problem is going to let Reform in isn’t it?

Honestly it’s such a bloody nightmare. Reform are making a total hash of local government from what I’ve read, putting teenagers in charge of whole departments with no relevant experience. What are they going to do if they are elected to run a country!!!! I’m honestly terrified. Labour need to be seen to be actively doing something to quell the far-right momentum that’s gaining traction from ordinary folk. I’m amazed at the average, usually pretty sensible people around me who are now telling me they are going to vote Reform.

there was an interview I saw yesterday where the minister said that thousands of people were being deported regularly. The interviewer asked why there were no videos of this and she said there could be. Well let’s see it! It would absolutely help.

Starmer is truly out of his depth. Reeves crying because it all got too much for her and she realised that she was doing a shit job and everyone knows. Streeting with that smug, shiny look saying he would sort out the Dr's strike if it had been him. It now IS him! He didnt negotiate at all last time which means they come back for more and more.

There are ways, get the trainee Drs to commit to staying within the NHS for xx years, remove some of their student debt. They have more applications then they know what to do with. Sort out the shit show that is the NHS. Look at some nominal charges for using the services. Of course there will be howls of outrage from people who claim some dont have a penny to spend but we HAVE to do something about this rotten government dept that couldnt fight their way out of a paper bag.

Plus pledges to end use of hotels and smash the gangs are coming back to bite.

Well, it'll certainly get rid of the Labour party, that's for sure.

Good!

Really worried about this. Farage is Johnson mark 2, in being a privileged twit out to feather his own nest first and foremost, but who will say and do anything to make that happen, and who has convinced many people he's an ordinary relatable bloke just like them who shares their concerns and will see them right. Whereas he will actually just make himself and his rich friends even richer.

"Farage is Johnson mark 2, in being a privileged twit out to feather his own nest first and foremost"
So just like multi millionaire Starmer then? With his tax free pension....now remind me who brought in that law? Oh yeah Starmer brought in the law to ensure his own pension was tax free yet is now talking about taxing pensioners.........

The facts are where the key to all this lies - record UK immigration - 1.3m (900k net) droppingn a bit but not enough. The 1st 30 year sof my life we had about zero - a few some year and more leaving than coming the next. The 2nd (the last 30 years) we have had vastly increased numbers up to the recent record highs and yet not enough housing, NHS etc etc for everyone so it is just a sheer numbers issue. That is just lawful immigration. There are about 1m illegals in the UK and Labour has removed about 19,000 so the person saying there are removals - yes there are but we need to remove about 1m people not 19,000.

In what way will it be bad? Why should people start getting their ducks in a row? I am genuinely asking and not being goady.

Farage wants to make America light. He wants to ban abortion. He wants to stoke culture division and race wars. He wants to go down in the history books and he doesn’t care what for.

Farage and Tice are playing with fire at the moment re: their support for the Epping protests. It could easily blow up in their faces, especially given the neo-Nazi involvement.

You obviously don’t live next to a male migrant hotel. There’s nothing wrong with the Epping protests. If you had one of these next to your school and they were loitering, staring and following your kids home you would be concerned. If one of them was raped you would absolutely lose your shit too.

Male migrant hotels should not be in town centres. Should not be next to schools. And should have tight curfews. These are unvetted men from countries where they do not have the same culture framework or law as us.

There is a lot wrong with the protests.

Sadly, I think we'll end up with a Reform government next time.

None of the parties are brave enough to be honest with the electorate about the challenges we face, and so none of them are able to offer any real solutions. In that kind of vacuum, the far right will flourish.

Things will get much, much worse under Farage, but we already know that most voters are very easy to manipulate. It will be too late by the time they realise.

Those who are in a position to make alternative plans after the next election should seriously start getting their ducks in a row. It's going to be bad.

Crikeyalmighty · 24/07/2025 13:19

@PropertyD well I disagree on that - I personally would be more than ok with Scandinavian style levels of tax and standards and subsidies where it matters- but that’s not what we are going to get because the right wing press would be all over it and to be frank the appetite and mentality in the UK isn’t about a sustainable society - it’s as Thatcher said all about the individual - so whilst I support labours underlying principles ( I vote Lib Dem by the way as a disclosure) the problem they have is you can end up with the worst of all worlds, tighter controls on some things , a flatter economy but still shit standards and services because the country has allowed things to get so out of control over last 15 years- be it housing, or land being used for uni private blocks rather than good social housing, allowing people to take the piss on benefits - I’m anti maintenance not being counted too towards benefits which I know won’t be popular but knowing someone who is claiming full housing benefit, plus cash benefits and is getting close on £1000 a month maintenance and not doing more than 8 hours work a week without much pressure really pisses me off that she’s better off than a single mum nurse or teacher working full time etc -

I don’t think it’s Labour that would open the floodgates to people leaving even if they moan, but I certainly think Farage would for those that have other options.

Rentitis · 24/07/2025 13:19

The next election is several years away - so that means the polls we are seeing today are largely irrelevant.

I think everybody in the UK is keen to get control over illegal migration. And probably nobody wants a migrant hotel on their street. Both Labour and Conservative - and other similar political parties across Europe - absolutely get this and are now trying seriously to get a grip.

I also think that the vast majority of UK voters, from across the political spectrum, realise there is no easy solution. And almost all are smart enough to realise that stirring up mobs of far right thugs to attack these hotels and their occupants is not going to solve anything.

I hear people moaning about the costs of illegal migrants and the crimes some of these migrants commit. They have a point. But we hear an awful lot less about the costs of policing these nasty demonstrations and the crimes those involved are committing.

We also need to be acknowledging the role of hostile state actors - Russia - in weaponising these refugee flows and stirring the pot via social media.

I think it is worth remembering that the majority of the electorate don't support Reform and that Reform's support has slipped since the local elections. There is still a long way to go to 2029.

Farage and Tice are playing with fire at the moment re: their support for the Epping protests. It could easily blow up in their faces, especially given the neo-Nazi involvement.

Wishful thinking I’m afraid. It’ll get Labour into more deep shit if they don’t face up to the facts. AR tried to say something the other day. They should listen to her more. But she’s a woman without a penis, innit.

TheWorthyGreenDreamer · 24/07/2025 13:14

Yes, probably.

There are many UK citizens who have seen it as a problem for years and consecutive governments have done little to address it.

Every government has acknowledged it as a problem but failed in their promises to address it.

So they'll veer towards the party who haven't had the opportunity to do something but say they'll do something and haven't already failed to do so.

I think the conservatives were talking about a coalition with Reform. I am naturally conservative with a small c but adding reform into it will make it a huge capital C.

Edited

How is that different to being a Reform voter?

Maybe if people actually looked at the situation pre Brexit when certain controls were legally in place with regards to returns etc and post Brexit when the French and Belgians had no such obligations then it might get through why Brexit was such a shit idea in all kinds of ways. However the bigger issue is the fact of the numbers Johnson and Sunak allowed in ( plus their families needing resources) and encouraged ‘legally’ in order to mask the fact that Brexit was a shit show economically in terms of jobs that others simply didn’t want to do . I cannot believe people arestupid enough to actually believe Farages bar room pub talk without any idea of resources or money needed to go along with his back of fag packet policies - his bunch of total weirdos couldn't run a piss up in a brewery and it might take him getting in for many to realise that - I’m not that bothered as if it looks like he’s getting in then we will invoke nomad visas as luckily we can and be off . You will see a tax drain of people who can work remotely and have passive income like never before.

I remember that time. Loads of signs on windows asking for staff. Or closures / reduced hours due to staff.

I do think importing the problem away was a bad idea. This was the time when businesses needed to go through a tough period and increase wages to attract staff. We missed that and now have an even bigger problem with col vs. wages.

Absentmindedsmile · 24/07/2025 13:13

No brainer I’m afraid. As the Democrats and Bernie Sanders enabled Trump and the Republicans in the US, Labour and Starmer et al are enabling Reform. Unless we have some sort of redemptive action from Labour in the next year or so. Chances?

PropertyD · 24/07/2025 13:12

The BMA are almost Marxist in their demands. They are also using very strange stats to prove that they need more and more.

They arent earning £15 per hour. They have left out all sorts of other allowances they get including the guaranteed pension. Others outside of the public sector have no such comfort. Reeves is after the private sector pensions. The more she does this the more people just wont save into the pension and surprise surprise they might well need state financial support. When Labour were looking to give a celing to pension pots someone said it would encourage all the senior Doctors to retire early. Then some numpty said they would make an exception for Doctors - what could possibly go wrong with making one occupation 'special'.

Nchangeo · 24/07/2025 13:10

Farage says he wants to reopen a conversation on abortion. They are super scary.

But yes I think they are getting in. I have no idea what happened the last 5 or so years but the shift is crazy.

People who claim its going to get much worse. What worse than the mess Labour are making?? Their spraying around money to ensure that the state is huge. Stabbing business in the back and sneakily putting up NI. Are they stupid?

Dont get me started on the 'broadest shoulders need to take the burden'. FFS - they will move to other countries you twats. 30% of income tax is paid by 1% of the people, when is enough, 50%, 80%??

Yes, much worse. Wait and see.
